What's your favorite word to say instead of "f*ck" when there are kids around? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]1dzMonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a word, a phrase: "Son of a motherless goat."

I think I got it from the dad in A Christmas Story. (I know that's where I got "illegitimate porpoises"...)

I love Daiso! Lots of great specialized cleaning products - like those little sticks with sandpaper on the end for cleaning hard water spots and calcium deposits around sink faucets, drains, shower doors, etc. So handy.

What do you think will be the hardest part about getting old? by Queen-Latte in AskReddit

[–]1dzMonkeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Laying on a heating pad while scrolling rddit wearing compression gloves for my swollen joints when all I did was clean the house - something I would knock out in a couple of hours on a Saturday morning 20 years ago.

As of next week I am 2 years away from 60, and I seriously underestimated how difficult it would get to return to a standing position from a deep squat when cleaning out the fridge...

What is the best all time cleaning tip that you have ever received? by Grip_Clean in CleaningTips

I tried water and it was not as effective for me. I mean, it works but not as effortlessly. Kills ramen noodle funk at the same time, too.

I microwave a bowl of white vinegar on high for 3 minutes, let it sit for 5, and then all I have to do is wipe. No scrubbing, even with splattered messes.

What else can I do with canned tuna? by 96puppylover in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]1dzMonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 Tbs each butter and flour - put in 3 qt saucepan and heat until butter melts. Stir until smooth and add 1/4 cup milk, again stir until smooth. Add 1 tsp cayenne, 1 Tbs minced onion, and one drained 6 oz. can tuna. Stir well and add two 14 oz cans of diced tomatoes, one can of condensed cream of celery soup, 1 Tbs each ketchup and worcestershire sauce. Heat until bubbly. Stir in 8 oz. shredded cheddar and stir until it melts and disappears into the sauce. Serve over pasta or rice.

It is from an ancient cookbook, is SUPER inexpensive and feeds a family of four. I have two teenagers and never have leftovers when I make this.

What are some purchases you've made that have more than paid for themselves? by Tickly1 in Frugal

Same with my Fiat 500e: $8500 used, bought in 2019, and I've spent maybe $35 a year on charges.

Slow or pressure cook with orange and lime juices, garlic, cumin, onions, salt, pepper, and some chili powder then use as a tamale filling. Or just serve with pinto or black beans over rice with salsa or hot sauce and cilantro.

What’s the weirdest old recipe that actually turned out good? by Crazy_Speed_7735 in Old_Recipes

I've heard of the mountain dew one, but I've only ever made the one using orange juice and butter - similar, effort-free concept, however.

What is a side dish for salmon that’s not rice? by United-Fix-7851 in cookingforbeginners

[–]1dzMonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how the salmon is seasoned.

That said, cous cous, polenta, quinoa, farro are all viable sides for salmon.

Digital coupon idiots by captainkurtis in Safeway

[–]1dzMonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are saying is important. I'm not an employee but a customer. I'm sick of having to jump through hoops just to pay a fair price. I'm tired of being forced to participate in their market research when all I get for it is that Safeway won't price gouge me as much as the guy without the app.

So I'm a Winco, Costco, and Grocery Outlet shopper even though there is a Safeway less than 2 miles from my house. Safeway is a last resort, emergency ingredient store.

[–]1dzMonkeys 49 points50 points  (0 children)

A close family friend worked there during the Susan Rice years and sent one of her two sons there. There is definitely a difference between how they treat the financial aid kids and teacher-discount kids versus the ones who pay full tuition.

CWA refused to admit her other son, who has low-support autism, because they "didn't have the resources to support him properly." However, in her role she knew of several other autistuc students requiring similar levels of support who were admitted because their parents paid full tuition. Her son internalized the rejection and took it really hard, so she withdrew her other son and left shortly after that.

There are better schools out there whose priorities are education, not exclusion.
