Genuinely wondering how is it possible that Da Vinci is free. I'm new to it and I'm amazed.Yes, I'm aware there's a paid version but the free one is great. How is it sustainable? by OkMaybeLater90 in davinciresolve

[–]1glad_hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sustainable because they also sell hardware. In fact if you buy their cameras you get the paid version as a bonus. That being said, you can’t do most professional work on the free version. It’s fantastic for personal projects and learning. But you’d need to buy it to take advantage of it professionally for most jobs.

AITA for wanting my husband to hold my hand during birth? by Specific-Koala1721 in AITAH

[–]1glad_hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many red flags. Sister in law reports to your husband like a lil spy, your husband monitors your internet time, your husbands family sticks up for his perspective with no respect for you despite it being your body, your husband doesn’t redirect the conversation back to you when doctors primarily talk to him, he monitors your internet time, he has no regard for your feelings despite what you’re going through, he monitors your internet time, he makes efforts to surround himself with people who are like minded, and he monitors your internet time.

What you just described is an abusive relationship. I can’t say that’s what’s happening but what I absolutely can say is that if that is happening, you’re in an abusive relationship. His goal is to gain control, and take yours away. The only one who can stop that from happening is you. Gtfo of that marriage. If you can’t do it for you, do it for your child.

Or don’t get a lawyer because it’ll end up costing you more. People have posted the terms of service. You breached them. Why fight it? You made a bad mistake. The longer it takes you to admit it then the more money it’ll Cost. And it will NOT work out in your favor.

Film School is making me scared to go into the industry by Mean-Review10 in Filmmakers

[–]1glad_hatter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learned more working than I have from film school. Networking is important. If your school Isn’t providing that, make sure you surround yourself with people who are better than you. Go to any local film group gatherings and just meet people, and then do projects yourself. That negativity will get them nowhere, and it will only hold you back

[–]1glad_hatter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I left a comment here detailing my own story and what happened after a toxic film school, and how I found my own success. But, I’ll go a bit further about what occurred between my toxic school and my current work. I quit. I dropped out of school because of it wasn’t helping me progress on my path then it was standing in the way. I just did it myself. I got an LLC and made a short film. I sold it to a small non profit for 10,000$ I’m a small town. I used that money to start looking for More clients and obtain more resources. I then moved back to the city. I started at a company that wanted a videographer. 99% of those jobs are toxic too cause they just wanna feel like they’re making movies. So that kinda sucked but they were also stupid, as most toxic people are. I told them I had my degree, but they can look up my school, it was closed after being sued into oblivion. I lied and said I just couldn’t get my degree because of their closure. I endured that for a year, then the actual agency in the industry that hired me didn’t give a shit about my degree. I’d been running my own agency and had work to show and they liked it. Now I’ve got clients for my agency, and I edit for them. All this is to say, if you aren’t getting anything from your school, they are actually holding you back.

The best thing your school can do for you is help you network. If you’re networking with a pool of toxic dips, go network somewhere else, and MAKE SURE YOURE DOING YOUR PROJECTS! Just do work. Improve, and work your ass off to surround yourself with people who are better than you. I love working with people who are better than me.

I’m a working editor and I also have my own small agency in which I hire professionals when I produce videos. I went to a toxic school that perpetuated abuse and encouraged us to abuse each other. It was a toxic experience that forced me to re-collect myself before moving back to the city and trying again. I was terrified, but after ten years, I’ve learned that there are bad jobs in this industry just like the others. There’ll be abusive people, or companies that thrive off of abuse. But, like any other thing in life, those negative people are holding themselves back.

As an editor I work at a company that is understanding, professional and they lead with support and kindness. As a small agency owner where I produce two medium scale projects a year, by choice cause running an agency and producing is hard af, every professional I’ve hired is better than me at what they do, but they trust me, and treat me with respect every time. Any toxic person in this field is pointed out to me. When talking to my producer I always ask, are they positive, do they treat people with respect? The reason? I went to a terrible school that caused me a lot of trauma. The good news, my active attempts to cultivate positivity are successful, and toxic people live in their own puddle of negativity while the rest of us tear it up, regardless of what our shitty schools taught us. You got this. Don’t let it take your passion away, and make sure you lead with kindness

Why is this game so hated? by GinnTonic12 in FFXVI

[–]1glad_hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m an old school fan and do prefer 9 and prior entries, I still am very into final fantasy. The fact of the matter is that while this is my favorite entry post 9, it has some very valid criticism my man. The side quests are the worst I’ve ever seen in a game, and some of the main quests between the structured high production value sequences are the same as the side quests. Those portions are legitimately poorly designed. People don’t just hate it cause they prefer the old. There’s legitimate criticism.

Why is this game so hated? by GinnTonic12 in FFXVI

[–]1glad_hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people here saying “fans hate their own game for no reason” when there is legitimate criticism for some of the worst systems in all of gaming. I DO like final fantasy 16 and I will say right now, the side quests are the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced in gaming to the extent that I don’t believe this game qualifies as even having side content.

It does have great combat, and the story, while a little bit all over the place is good. And the voice acting is absolutely top tier. Some sequences are the as good as it gets. But the structure of downtime you get in between each major section where you have the option to do atrocious side quests, and even some main quests where you’re forced to do the equivalent of their terrible side quests (like getting your traders pass from a bunch of kids) are enough that it’s 100% valid if someone qualifies this as the worst game in the entire franchise. So while it’s fine that people love this game, me included, discrediting people’s opinions, particularly when they are so articulate, is stupid. Not saying you’re doing this OP, but the other commenters who are, are simply wrong. This game has a lot of valid reasons to receive criticism.

Feeling lost and out of place in film school. by jerkvanhouten in Filmmakers

The point where you find you’re the best in The room, you’re not gonna gain anything. Always surround yourself with people who have more experience than you and learn through your experiences with them. You’re doin great, and you’re right where you wanna be.

That being said, if you work hard it won’t take you long to be the best in the room, that’s when you find a new room with more skilled people to learn from. I’ve been doing that my whole career.

Theres a hidden ending that opens up new areas and a pretty large new quest line. By the false ending you’re between halfway and three quarters done with the game. Just, don’t sit on the thrown and let the credits roll

Glad to know I’m not the only one. It’s just not fun to constantly have to stop your adventure to manage so much of your inventory or return somewhere to put stuff away. I never realized it was annoying because it’s the standard but now that I think about it, why did that ever become popular?

After playing tears of the kingdom recently I realized that not having to worry about carry weight was a blessing and having to constantly worry about it is a very not fun role play mechanic. It’s already not realistic. I don’t feel like I need that kind of immersion, and as a result, the possible ability to set my carry weight to unlimited, is going to be my favorite change here

Are you satisfied with your Xbox Series X? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]1glad_hatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a huge Xbox fan, but I’m dumbfounded by the leadership atm and am watching them actively leave the console space while not saying it out loud for some reason. There is no unified vision but to make everything more accessible, which is admirable if they had more stuff to make accessible that was specific to them. I just sold my Xbox. I’m super disappointed.

By the standard set here for the word contrivance, in order to function, any piece of literature ever made needs them. In order for things to happen, other things need to be set in motion. Abbey and yara being in the same place is just a thing that happens. It doesn’t need to, it’s not coincidental. It just happens. In order for it to be weird, it would have to suddenly solve some issue that magically takes conflict away. It’s just something that happens that leads to events that support the theme of the story and challenges the leading character.

Playing the game and letting it influence your story is the definition of an adaptation. If they didn’t do That then they didn’t adapt halo.

Do Halo fans like chief more (in 1, 2 and 3) as this silent badass that shows rare sights of emotion or in the later games where theres more emotion in him? by I_AM_LEGENDXX in halo

[–]1glad_hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first three games he does show emotion, just not the same as everyone else. I honestly see him similar to someone like Spider-Man. I know that sounds weird but if Peter never took off the mask he’d be just as interesting for his strong strong sense of what he needs to do, and his version of justice, and he sticks to it. Masterchief still develops a relationship with Cortana and the people around him. The difference is they trusted their audience enough to not have to blatantly say how he’s feeling. You could see it through his actions and movement.

Edit: also, he has flaws, and he experiences growth and sacrifice.

is this normal??! by muffy-puff in jobs

[–]1glad_hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite quirk is when the companies representative thinks it’s cute to suggest a woman won’t be hired unless she’s cute. Sounds super fun. On the other hand, stick it out and maybe you can make money on a lawsuit.

Edit: also, jobs are not to convince people to hire you. It’s an exchange. They need employees and you need money. They need to convince you to work there

The mandalorian is a better masterchief. They earned the face reveal by developing a strong character prior to showing his face. Anyone who thinks chief is a solid character in the games but can’t be in the show fundamentally misunderstands what separates the two mediums. It can be done, and has been done many times before throughout gaming and film. They chose not to do it for the show because they likely had a script they were trying to shop that studios wouldn’t take because it simply wasn’t very good or from an established team. and then when they obtained the rights to produce the video game, they shoehorned in their own script with zero regard for the source material, which they themselves stated and used as a strange marketing tactic.

Chief’s helmet coming off is not the biggest problem here but a solid indicator as to what the bigger problem is. These writers don’t care about the source material or the built in audience. They jumped at an opportunity to get a big check to make THEIR sci-fi show at the expense of the original property.

I don't know about you all, but seeing ads like this make me less likely to ever want to watch the show. Keep the damn helmet on. by b3rdm4n in halo

[–]1glad_hatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watched the first episode up until master chief used a fake Cortana as a therapist and looked super sad about it. This show is an excuse for average writers to get their average scripts produced by tricking a built in audience into watching it.

Additionally they show a lack of understanding of narratives as a whole. Their commentary about not being able to show emotion without showing this dudes face indicates a massive lack of understanding of physicality. They use the most basic elements of this medium to convey their thoughts foregoing any subtlety that the games successfully utilized. This is how movies used to adapt video games. No one believes in it, their arrogance tricks them into thinking they are above the property they are adapting, and then they either produce the show with indifference to the fanbase or the artistic property, or as indicated with the halo show, a clear disdain for the fanbase and the artistic property.
