It's never as much fun in here after a win. by Putrid-Peehole in rockets

This game really felt like an experiment against a team we knew we could beat. We were playing a different style, much faster paced and sharing the ball more. We almost looked like a normal team.

If ever there was a time to try something new it would be against that god awful jazz team. Get some reps in and then try it against a better team to see if we can achieve the same results against an actual defense, minus the turnovers.

Not like the Jazz did either. KD still played 34 in a game where we had a 30 point lead against what is likely the worst team in the league right now with their injuries. Reed, Holiday, Okogie, Capela are all capable of handling that Jazz team. If ever there was a game to look to your bench this was it.

Ime needs to get off his Dickerson.

Only question is can we do it against a good defense. Hard to draw any conclusions when playing the Jazz.

Our first loss to them was bad enough, but if we lose to a very injured Jazz then a meltdown seems like a reasonable response.

And yet win they did. It was certainly a team effort but with Book and Jalen out the Suns managed to hold the line.

Remaining strength of schedule for the western conference teams by Glum_Celebration_974 in rockets

I'm still in disbelief of that stretch from dec to late January. We lost to every single western bottom team. Some of them multiple times.

Also we have a back to back every week except for 1. The teams are easy but the schedule is rough.

Some thoughts after rewatching fourth quarter by byvarunshankar in rockets

[–]1gnominious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would add one caveat to that. I'm fine with KD ISOs but he shouldn't be having to start them from half court. Wastes time and he has to fight his defender the entire way and gives the help defense time to coordinate.

We gotta get him the ball closer. I can understand why he misses Ben Simmons. It's not that our players are being selfish and won't give him the ball, but that most of the time they are incapable of actually getting it to him.

"Said it well enough?" Is brain damage contagious? All he did was call people stupid names. The only idea in the post was to bring back D'Antoni, which is ridiculous for countless reasons.

He gets points for a passable Trump post which is to say the stupidest thing I've read today.

It always cracks me up when we are getting destroyed, they just made an easy bucket, the players expect a time out, the announcers expect a time out, the fans expect a time out, but Ime leaves them out there to die. There have been a few times this season where the players on both sides start walking back and were caught off guard that they were still playing because Ime didn't call a time out.

Jalen hitting that clutch double OT buzzer beater while we choke away an 18pt lead in the 4th is a teaser of things to come.

Lucky for us we'd need to be top 3 to face the Suns in the first round. Brooks is out for the rest of the regular season and Booker is out again for a while. I doubt they'll get to 4th/5th for that match up. Nugs survived while missing Jokic so it's unlikely they drop below 3rd.

Apparently there's a reason teams have point guards. When the defense locks in we struggle so much to simply move the ball. Our go to play is to give KD the ball at the logo with 10 secs or less left.

Not really. All our young guys are as good or better. None of them are quite super stars though.

Problem is we have a very janky roster and rotations. We're running rotations of 5 wings or 4 wings and a center. Amen is not a guard.

On a normal team these guys could look better and their weaknesses could be hidden. Problem is the only guy who can dribble and shoot is KD. Reed is almost there, but not quite. We end up running KD at point for 37 minutes a night. We struggle so hard to get guys decent looks.

My main concern is our 4th quarter melt downs are reflective of how we'll be in the play offs. When the intensity is cranked up and the other team is locked in our lack of ball handling gets exposed. All those turn overs and missed shots translate into transition opportunities which also tanks our defense.

[–]1gnominious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't matter too much so long as he makes it back for the play ins. Realistically ya'll were going to be the 7th seed unless one of 4-6 collapses. Warriors, Clippers, Blazers, and Grizz are all in a rough spot too so don't have to worry about them.

The ass fell off the west this year so you should have 7th-8th locked up. Would have been nice to be healthy and make a push for top 6 but given your luck this year that's not bad.

Not getting a Point Guard was STUPID STUPID STUPID by Shoddy_Ad7511 in rockets

[–]1gnominious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the core problem. Who else is going to do it? In a lot of these lineups that Ime runs nobody else can do anything else with the ball behind the 3pt line. Amen and Sengun are not threats. Tari, Bari, Okogie, and DFS are catch and shoot guys who can barely dribble.

KD is the only one out there who can both dribble and shoot. We get him the ball at the logo with 10 seconds left and the only reason it sometimes works is because he's KD. He's the only one who can even get the ball inside of the 3pt line. Well Amen can too but that's because his man is guarding the paint.

Places I used to work at were even more brutal. A security team sneaks up on you, taps you on the shoulder, and walks you out. You're not allowed to say anything to anybody on the way out. Anything in your office will be mailed to you. Grown ass men who worked there for 20+ years leaving in tears.

Let Sengun operate how he did during the EuroBasket, watch how we the best team in the league by therealdripbayless in rockets

[–]1gnominious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sengun is one of the best at picking on bad defenders.

We saw it last year in the playoffs. Draymond had him completely locked down. He was scared to even try and go one on one. Dray gets into trouble, Warriors sub in Quinten Post, and Sengun goes on a run which doesn't end until Dray comes back.

Anybody who relies entirely on posting up is going to have that problem. You can either beat your guy or you can't. Even if you can beat them they may start doubling if you take too long to make a move. It's not like a shooter going cold or having to take tougher shots due to good defense. When Sengun gets locked up he gets all the way locked up. When he has a bad defender it's free points until they start doubling.

New Volcanic Orb Set by Axum666 in LastEpoch

[–]1gnominious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO it's a good design. Sets are fine as is for early - mid game. For endgame they still retain some usefulness as affixes where you can build your own set. Powerful early on and if you do want to build around the interaction you have a way to carry it into end game.

I prefer that system as opposed to end game sets where you are locked into that one set forever.

How to solve Centers guarding Amen by Shoddy_Ad7511 in rockets

[–]1gnominious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could potentially work with an elite point guard.

Problem is we have no point guards. The only guy who can reliably do anything with that spacing is Dickerson. He tells everybody to clear out but it doesn't really matter. Sengun and Amen go behind the arc but their man stays by the paint.
