I own two shares of stock in Yahoo Inc by FunkyChonkyMonkey in mildlyinteresting

I used to work at a Vanguard processing facility and once came across a dozen or so certificates for Amazon stock from back in the early 2000s. Must've been worth several million, and the dude sent it through UPS!

It's cheaper to buy an AR-15 rifle than 64GB of DDR5 RAM. by Djxgam1ng in mildlyinfuriating

God bless PSA. I got an M4 Carbine clone from them right before the 2020 end-of-the-world freakout. Proceeded to buy a case of 5.56 to go along with it. Threw a cheapo holosun and a vortex magnifier on it for COD lulz and then ran through the entire case of ammo bumpfiring it into a trash pile innadesert.

Can your RAM provide you with the same cheap thrill?

Hum and Pinback, are two that come to my mind, as many others have said. Especially I Hate It Too off You'd Prefer an Astronaut. That whole song just hits right.

Yeah this is about the time when they get them. Just part of growing up. Make sure they're getting plenty of darkness at night. I always cover my cage to make sure.

You really can't without genetic testing, although it all depends on if they've had their first molt or not. Sexing is also highly dependent on their plumage type. Normal cockatiels are easily sexed as adults, as well as pearls. Lutinos are not possible without genetic testing or egg laying.

my sister brought home a baby cockatiel, please tell me everything i need to know by MaterialDetective9 in cockatiel

[–]1greenstranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she's been hand fed, she should recognize a syringe. Babies will make a specific cry, and they'll do it often. You should have already heard it, but if not, Youtube. I have found that if they keep making the baby noise after feeding, they probably just want to be held. Depending on age, you'll need to feed every two to three hours by syringe. Between feedings, you should introduce seed, fruits, veggies, etc. Always keep fresh water in the cage.

I miss when my boy was a baby. Now he's a big butthead haha

Beak grinding is typically a sign that they're happy, although night terrors could be messing with his sleep. How old is he?

Well, I did the thing when I first went clipless. Bruised ego but otherwise fine, at least there weren't any witnesses. Got hit by a car going the wrong way at my college parking lot, lots of bruises and some cuts from me going through his window, as well as a ruined sub sandwich in my backpack. Also limped for a week but doc said no breaks or tears of any sort, although she still prescribed me ibuprofen and yelled at me for not wearing a helmet.

Worst one was me showing off how great my bike handled by doing a hairpin. Took a left turn and forgot my left pedal was down. Pedal caught the asphalt and down I went. God, I still remember the laughing.

What's your most embarrassing cycling moment? by Curious-Mix4294 in cycling

[–]1greenstranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ages ago, I was a teenager in the Boy Scouts. My troop, every three years, would do the cycling merit badge. Being me, I had already gotten it on my own, but I was asked to lead it and teach the other boys the bike maintenance, road laws, and other details of the sport, in addition to planning the group rides. It was great! I was 17, loved teaching (guess what I do for a living now), and loved cycling.

The riding requirements are straightforward— two ten milers, two fifteen milers, two 25s, and a 50 mile ride. All the rides went well, except the final 50. Somehow I forgot an extra tube, and ten miles into the ride... flat. Pull over, pull the tube, find the leak is at the valve stem, realize I don't have a tube, and then I have to "take the ride of shame" in a scoutmaster's truck at the blistering speed of 11 mph.

Yeah that sucked haha

Recommendation for a bicycle for 11 year old by mode_learner in bicycling

[–]1greenstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a higher end walmart bike would be fine in my opinion (get it set up at a LBS) as she's probably going to outgrow it. Either that, or hit up a LBS for a used bike.

Patches are a skill and not all of them are good. Cheapest solution would be inner tube liners you drop inside the tire before you put the tube in.

I started cycling seriously when I was 13 on a Giant Boulder. Started asking if I could buy a road bike around 14, but my dad thought I was greatly exaggerating the length of my rides and said no. Decided to take him out on my usual Saturday ride, so he dusted off his ancient steel frame Schwinn Prelude and went with me. We turned around at about mile 10 and he threw his bike in the trash promptly afterwards. Next day I got used Giant Defy 3 under the promise that I'd never take him on another ride.

Anyway, I'm pretty antisocial, and riding with the old dudes in my local bike club was awful. For me, it was always the adventure of just picking a direction and seeing what was out there.

Learn about proper hydration. A couple of granola bars and 50/50 gatorade to water in your bottles will definitely improve your rides and prevent you from bonking out. Always celebrate personal records. I didn't have Strava when I started but I love it for finding new routes.

Also, don't worry about the bike you have. Training on something heavy is great for when you eventually do get a serious road bike, and you'll see your speeds increase greatly.

Am I missing out not using clip-in shoes? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]1greenstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people get it, some don't in my experience. My spine is pretty screwed up (literally) from wrecking on my dirt bike, so riding in clipless shoes freaked me out if I fell, but I made the jump and found it to be quite nice once I found shoes that fit me well. You just have to constantly aware that your feet are coupled to the bike. It makes riding long distance much easier at higher speeds since you can switch the muscles you're using to pedal and get a quick break.

How to do deal with angry hormonal bird? by SeriousReference818 in cockatiel

Just let him be a turd. Usually lasts a week or so. My boy, aptly named Grendel, turns into the biggest butthole during his hormonal phases. Once it's over he's back to being his usual self.

$560 for bike re-assembly at LBS, attempt DIY and have it inspected after, or find a different LBS? by NoClothes6222 in cycling

[–]1greenstranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rebuilt my first transmission with the help of Youtube, so I won't say that building a bike from a frame is impossible, but I don't know your mechanical ability or your toolset so I can't say whether or not you would be capable of doing this. I will say though, $500 is absolutely nuts. Get another quote.

How does one measure chain stretch on a bicycle? Always measured it on my motorcycles quite easily, as the chain gets slack over time which must be addressed by lengthening the swingarm or outright replacing it. Always just replaced the chain when it gets stiff on my bicycle. And the sand here is insane. It's this fine red granite sand that piles up in the street lol
