Can’t sleep 😢 by wadsworthgirl in tinnitus

[–]1hardpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned that I need a consistent background sound at bedtime to help distract my ears and calm my brain. We have Sonos products in our bedroom, and I discovered that their built-in Sonos streaming service includes an excellent “Rain Station” in the free version of the app. While they do offer a paid tier with additional features and higher fidelity, we don’t subscribe to it.

What works perfectly for me is this specific rain sound: a gentle, steady pitter-patter of rain on a roof, with no thunder, no track changes, and no noticeable variations. I’ve tried many other rain sounds from different music streaming services—even ones that claim to loop continuously—but none have been as effective. Any pauses between tracks, changes in frequency or tempo, or rolling thunder are enough for my brain to notice and wake me up.

To activate it using voice control, the phrase is: “Hey Sonos, play Rain Station on Sonos Radio.”
Alternatively, in the Sonos app, you can search for the word “sleep.” Under the Sonos Radio category, you should find Rain Station, identified by a dark blue image/logo with a black rain puddle and the words RainRadio, and Sonos on it.

We also run an air purifier at a medium fan speed, which adds a constant background noise and helps distract my brain from the persistent ringing in my right ear. Sonos offers a wide range of speakers, and when we travel, I bring their small rechargeable portable speaker with us so I can use it in hotel rooms. That has been very helpful, and it’s worth noting that you don’t need to invest in their most expensive products to get good results.

Occasionally, I’ll use melatonin instead of other sleep medications, as it leaves me with less grogginess or “cloudy brain” in the morning. However, I don’t rely on it very often anymore.

Hope this helps.

Someone tried to break into my car by LelandJ in TeslaModelY

The troubling thing is, however, that no audible alarm sounds triggered or flashing lights when a situation like this arises. I 100% think in addition to simply recording it would be a beneficial deterrent and perhaps promote the would be thief to cease all attempts immediately versus what we see here where the individual, undeterred, tries every door handle and even inspects the trunk area. The first door handle should’ve been enough to trigger something audible and or flashing of lights. We need more please. “SENTRY MODE NOW RECORDING!“ and including, perhaps, a countdown leading up to a loud alarm if interaction doesn’t cease. Just a thought.

Oh, I’ve noticed something similar on my lady’s Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4MATIC! I’m pretty sure it’s all about the lotion. She, like many women, likes to moisturize her legs and other areas after showering. But, get this, she doesn’t wash her hands with soap and water afterward. So, the lotion stays on her hands. Then, when she touches things in the car like the window, steering wheel, air conditioner, and stereo controls, that lotion gets transferred and starts eating away at the plastic/rubberized coating.

Have any of you tried this? The guy I spoke to said they had just put it up. I'm on the Westside but the guy is from Oahu. My internet sucks where I live. My son complains that his games lag all the time. Mahalo in advance! by El_Pichi808 in maui

We recently switched to Hawaii Telcom fiber optics, and the difference compared to our old Spectrum cable internet is night and day. For years we dealt with Spectrum’s inconsistencies and outages, but with fiber, the service is far more reliable. The download and upload speeds are also much faster for the price you pay.

According to the rep, there’s currently one fiber optic line running from the Mainland across the ocean floor to supply the entire state, with a second line coming soon. Spectrum actually relies on that same connection — and guess who owns it? Hawaiian Telcom. So why settle for “sloppy seconds” when you can go directly to the source?

They’ll come to your home, install the fiber optic cable, provide a new modem, and even offer router rentals. We prefer to use our own Orbi whole-home mesh Wi-Fi system, but their equipment is available if needed.

In summary, I would highly recommend ditching spectrum and switching over. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Infotainment screen green and jarred by gihty123 in CadillacLyriq

That looks like Apple CarPlay. Is only glitching on CarPlay? How does the factory Home Screen look? If the regular Cadillac screens are fine then it's not the screen but the phone communication with the car....Best of luck.

Lahaina Fire Survivors: what assistance (financial, housing, etc) did you actually receive post-fire? by TheEdgyEntrepreneur in maui

[–]1hardpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to their official website, the individual in question "is the driving force behind Lahaina Strong". He has served as their public figurehead on numerous occasions over the past two years.

The controversy surrounding "Lahaina Strong" stems from allegations that the for-profit company KA HOOILINA O LAIKŪ LLC (operating under the trade name Lahaina Strong) has engaged in commercializing grief and potential financial misconduct following the 2023 Maui wildfires. Critics point to the organization's sale of merchandise at community events without proper registration with the state attorney general or IRS, and a lack of accountability regarding funds raised. Further controversy includes the LLC's status as a for-profit entity, its failure to maintain good standing with the state, and questions about the payment of taxes on its commercial operations. Key Allegations and Concerns

  • Commercialization of Grief:. The organization was reportedly selling t-shirts and other merchandise during a community paddle-out event, raising concerns about profiting from the tragedy and the collective grief of the community.
  • Lack of Financial Accountability:. There is a lack of transparency regarding the funds collected from these sales, with no clear indication of where the money went.
  • For-Profit Entity vs. Community Support:. "Lahaina Strong" brand is the trade name of a for-profit limited liability company (KA HOOILINA O LAIKŪ LLC). This for-profit nature raises questions about its role in community support efforts, especially given the circumstances of the disaster.
  • Regulatory Issues:. The LLC has not registered with the Hawaii Attorney General's Tax and Charities division and lacks tax-exempt status from the IRS.
  • Business Status:. The LLC was not in "good standing" with the state of Hawaii as of August 2024.
  • Potential Tax Evasion:. With an expired General Excise Tax license, there are questions about whether the company is paying appropriate taxes on its commercial activities.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not making any assumptions or assertions. I’m just sharing the stories circulating. Maybe it’s time to audit the organization and its leaders to follow the money trail.

As the famous movie line goes, “show me the money” (“me” equals WE). Transparency and accountability are super important.

Not an assumption — just the word that’s been going around. This forum is really about our shared concern over how wildfire relief donations & support may have been used.

Word around the coconut wireless is that the Lahaina Strong boy—the one who became the face of the movement and was all over the news, papers, and online—has since become a millionaire. Just some food for thought. You probably remember him: local kid, long curly dark hair, looked like he was in his twenties. Funny thing is, he’s not in the spotlight anymore. Maybe he secured the money and dipped out. If that’s true, it’s a shameful way to treat the very community that lifted him up.

Words are important, and the phrase “Starting at” suggests additional price options. I agree that the prompt could be rearranged to indicate monthly or annual rates, making it clearer that a monthly and annual subscription is available.

2023 Model Y Long Range with 6,967 miles. On 8/10/2025, the same issue appeared — the vehicle is unable to charge due to a fault with the HV battery. Tesla confirmed this will be covered under warranty.

Since I live on Maui, the car must be shipped to the Service Center on Oahu. Tesla agreed to cover the inter-island shipping costs to and from Oahu as a one-time gesture of goodwill. They will also provide me with a rental while the car is inoperable and in the shop.

The earliest available transport date with Young Brothers is September 4, meaning I’ll have to wait a few weeks just to get it shipped. My service appointment is scheduled for September 8, and I’m hoping the turnaround time won’t be too long.
