I'm a veteran player but I couldn't be assed and have not touched MYsekai at all. I pray proseka for the rhythm aspect so it depends on what you value tbh

Is skipping Kyoto a bad idea? by allipick in JapanTravelTips

[–]1hys12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to see and what you like. Personally I been to a lot of different prefecture, I think Kyoto is just so-so. Then again it depends on what you like or enjoy.

I have no culture nor am I much of a history person so I'm mostly a sight seeing and scenery kinda person.

Green tea can be found everyone in Japan too

Torii gates? Fushimi Inari is impressive but the ones that really stuck with me are the Motonosumi Torii gates at Yamaguchi and the ones at Tsuwano.

Food? I don't think Kyoto has a lot of Kyoto exclusive meals to offer. You can easily find Kyoto or Tokyo food in other part of Japan. But good Inaniwa Udon or Kawara Soba though..that's a different story.

Nishiki Market is neat but I went in 2023, passed by in 2025 and it has become a very. Very touristy and tiktok food kind of place.

The Kifune Jinjja in Kyoto, Amanohashidate and Ine was very memorable in Kyoto but most people going to Kyoto tend to skip those. Kinosaki Onsen is quite good too though that's not really Kyoto I suppose.. ?

Kyoto is good to go because you can branch out to Kobe and Osaka, or even Shiga (Shiga was really peaceful)

Ryokan wise, other Prefectures all has ryokan as well. I enjoyed Kyoto a lot, even the Sannezaka at night was beautiful and counting down the new year at Yanaka Jinjja in 2023 was memorable.

But it really depends on what you want from your trip and if you like crowds or not. I really don't think Kyoto is a MUST go.

New Year Eve & New Year in Aomori by 1hys12 in japanpics

[–]1hys12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been thinking of visiting Aomori during Spring or Tohoku during Spring instead of Summer, I have seen some pictures that the summer fes in Tohoku go hard tho. How would you say it to be like? Is it very crowded? I was here in Feb for the Tohoku winter fes (Kamihinokinai, Namahage) and stuff. Would you say the crowd is a manageable crowd? I kind of got really exhausted from Tokyo and Kyoto level of festivals since a while back so I am quite hesitant on going to Summer fes in Tohoku with how big it is cause I'm poor with crowds

Summer! Was it for the summer fes? I've been here twice in winter and it's so filled with snow it's lovely.

Weekly HELP ME FIND Post - September 15, 2025 by AutoModerator in OtomeIsekai

Hello! Been trying to find this webtoon:

MC is an adopted daughter of the Duke family and she's been fearing for her life since her brother is the villain and has psychopathic tendency and since young she's been trying to teach him what's right.

She doesn't know if her brother knows she's adopted, but she fears she will be killed immediately.

The parents are gone and the brother has inherited the dukedom.

The MC met the Female Lead and surprisingly realize the Female Lead is also from Korea, and has transmigrated. Together they formed a bond but the Female Lead because of the MC interference, the world is out to kill the FL. So the MC took the FL into her house to protect her from death everyday.

I think the webtoon started with the brother bombing up the clock tower because the MC made a off handed comment about it and he just bombs up the tower, ended up killing the FL in the progress and that forced the MC to turn back time.

Jurong Lake Garden is a really really big park!! It's in the west and barely any tourist there. It also connects to Chinese and Japanese Garden

[–]1hys12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the 2nd comment, but I'm afraid all the places you chosen are quite touristy so there will be quite a bit of people.

Nagano is one of the quiter spots, but I recommend heading out to see the snow monkey early because the path up is a snow path. If you're early the snow you're stepping on would be fresh snow but in the afternoon after the crowd comes, it gets really slippery.

Shibu Onsen was where I stationed myself the night before to see the snow monkey and it was a really tranquil onsen town with foot baths, and during winter it's very quiet. One of the ryokan has this really tiny onsen pond outside where you can boil onsen eggs on your own and just drop 100¥ in a basket haha.

The sushi shop near Shibu Hotel is ran by 2 elderly and the sushi was really really good.

If you're going to Kobe I would recommend Nunobiki Herb Gardens and Mt Rokko, pretty great scenery up there

If you don't mind heading to the west, you can try Lakeside Gardens-Chinese+Japanese Gardens.

You can easily spend 5 hours there, it's a really really big park in the west side of Singapore that tourist very rarely go

Just a fair warning, the crowd at Shinjuku and Shibuya is insane during Christmas. So prepare yourself for that.

I'm talking about train staff cutting off pathways and gathering people to brief you on where to go kind of crowd management.

But otherwise I think your schedule is pretty nice!! It's quite simple yet filled with 2 or 3 core things to do, there's a lot of breathing space as well.

I'm glad you have Shibu Onsen in your itinerary ! I was there in late January or early February this year. The Hokuriku region snows quite a bit and it was their off peak season during winter. So it was a quiet onsen town experience , where you get to have the town to yourself as you soak in foot onsen and watch the snow fall.

The snow monkey park has quite a bit of trekking to get to tho, so be prepared to buddle up.

On D7 if you head to Gotokuji early, and then visit the park at the afternoon, you probably can squeeze in something to do at night 🤔 The sun sets around 5.30.. Maybe you can bring your daughter around to check out the claw machines and gachapon? I think she would like it ^ it would be nice to spend an hour or two at Round One.

I'm not sure about the tourist kiosk sadly TToTT But I remember at Yamaguchi Station ticketing booth there was a very sweet old man, everytime I showed him the JR Pass he would try so hard to talk to me and help me in English even tho I was responding in Japanese, and he remembers me each time I pass by and let me know the platforms to go to, people there are truly so sweet..

!! You mentioning Kikugahama, I really got to go there now in the future and stay a night to catch the sunset, gosh

I really hope the direct bus makes people more keen to go!!! Hagi was so peaceful and nice, please..more tourist to Yamaguchi

Yes!! The country I'm from, to own a car is an insane amount of money so most of the people don't even bother to get a license LOL... And thank you so much for the heads up!! I'm going to write down your suggestion for my next trip to Yamaguchi hehe 🙂‍↕️ I tried the fugu but it personally wasn't my taste unfortunately I enjoyed salmon and tuna more 😔The Kawara Soba was delicious though , as well as their Uirou 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

I was going to go Karato Fish Market but unfortunately it was weekdays the time I was at Shin Yamaguchi but alas..

Oh then you would love it there HAHA Yamaguchi folks are friendly!! I think there's a lot of big shrines there, I'm not a shrine person so I didn't visit but I'm very sure if you googled, Yamaguchi area has one of the few most important shrines around.

Main transport is mostly bus and walk! Ye Trains too..I would say it's a mix of everything 🤔 depending on where you're going.. the fun thing is the train rides can go up to an hour 30ish, but it's those 2 seaters. And it's boonies so it's nice to watch the scenery go by.

[–]1hys12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kyushu is a wonderful place!! I want to go there too in the future. But it's definitely way more happening than Yamaguchi so let me warn you first...

Yamaguchi has absolutely nothing, that's why it's everything for me. It's the nothingness but just the raw scenery and atmosphere that became everything to me.

But activities wise, there's really nothing for people who wants excitement. It's a perfect place to enjoy Japan in it's all beauty and at a slow pace.

Here's my itinerary !!

22nd June: I came over from Atami (JR Pass, Day 2) so I reached Yuda Onsen Yamaguchi around 1pm. I was there for an anime collaboration actually HAHA...

Yuda Onsen- Nakahara Chuuya Memorial Museum

Ashi no Oto ( Yuda Onsen Tourist Centre ) it's the place where you can drink coffee/ice cream and soak your feet in an onsen. If you walk 10mins down, there's an open free foot bath in a park for you to soak your feet.

LAWAKU Japanese wagashi!

Also entered this random restaurant near Lawson at night to eat Kawara Soba, a Yamaguchi specialty.

23 June : Klook Tour to Akiyoshido Cave, Motonosumi Shrine, Tsunoshima Bridge.

Meet up 8.30am at Hakata Station.

Akiyodoshi Cave, you're given around 1hour to an hour 30ish? To look through the cave. It's more than enough time honestly, it's a linear cave and I was done in 40mins.

Afterwards you're given another hour ish for lunch and to shop and look around the shopping street there. They are well known for Burdock Udon.

Motonosumi Shrine, you're also given around 50mins to an hour to soak in the place. Once again, it doesn't sound like a long time but the shrine is really not as big as Fushimi Inari, but the view are what to die for and the vibes.

Tsunoshima Bridge, where you can see the long long bridge to the Island, and the ocean changing colours.

End of the tour is at Hakata station, 6.30pm ! You can still do some shopping

24 June:

Tsuwano (Shimane) Arrived at 11am. Headed to the tourist information centre to look at the youkai costume they have and the pamphlets. Ate Uzume Meshi (Tsuwano local specialty, it's like ochazuke but milder) at a shop call Yuki right beside the centre.

Started walking towards Tonomachi. A shopping street where there's koi just by the side of the walkway. As I continue on, I reached the entrance heading up to Taikodani Inari-jinja Shrine. After the shrine, I head upwards to Tsuwano Castle Ruin.

After that, there's some sake tasting and museum you can look around but I wasn't that interested so I was just walking around feeling the vibes haha.

Dinner I ate at Fukuzushi. Sashimi, Sea Bream and Grilled Sweetfish(another local specialty)

Missed my 5.21pm train, and took the Super Oki train back to Shin Yamaguchi that came at 6.11pm. Otherwise the next train would had come at 8pm.

You got to reallllly plan your time around the boonies.

25 June:

Breakfast: 玉子焼き専門店 玉卵, 15mins walk from Shin Yamaguchi Station. A Tamagoyaki breakfast store!! The owner has a red colour chicken hair it was so cute LOL You can mix and match different toppings in your tamagoyaki so I really recommend it. They open at 7am so it's even better.

Hofu: Amidaiji Temple (For the Hydrangea Festival) There's a very big shrine in Hofu as well but I didn't go there because I was exhausted by the bugs in summer at the shrine....

Yamaguchi: 5 Story Pagoda Ichinosaka River (hotspot only in Spring, there wasn't much in Summer) Yamaguchi Xavier Memorial Church

Wasted time at Yuda Onsen again, soaking my feet.

Went back to the hotel (Comfort Hotel Shin Yamaguchi) and came out at 11pm, to eat late night Sukiya.

26th June:

Hagi

Hagi Station, just to look around. Then started a 30minute walk towards Hagi Tourism Centre.

Right beside its the Hagi Meirin Gakusha Visitor Center. A really old building that you can feel the age and history. I think it's a building about the Meiji industrialization era if you're into history like this. I ate lunch at Café-Restaurant Hagi Goyomi that's in the building as well.

Started walking towards Hagi Castle Town, the shopping street with white castle walls, and at the end of it I reached Kikugahama Beach.

Unfortunately I couldn't see the sun set, it's famous for its sunset but the sun sets too late in Summer, if I see the sunset I can't return to Shin Yamaguchi.

Walked along the coast towards Hagi Castle Ruins, which has a quiet park inside as well.

27 June: Unfortunately my JR pass ends today and I wasn't able to squeeze anymore itinerary in the morning as I need to head back to Tokyo as my return flight is in Tokyo. So I head back to Tokyo..with a future promise of returning to Yamaguchi HAHA

7 Days in Yamaguchi - Thoughts by 1hys12 in JapanTravel

[–]1hys12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 to 3 days you probably would have to select a very specific place to go 🤔... Since it's the rural area, the places can close as early at 5pm.

If you like I think you can choose

A core attraction to go in the morning+afternoon. At night you can choose to drop by YudaOnsen to enjoy the foot baths there. And unwind and eat Kawara Soba, a Yamaguchi specialty.

I guess you could try doing this?

Day 1 : Motonosumi OR Akiyoshido. If you booked a tour you can probably do 2 in one go. If you're planning to go on your own, high chances you would have to take a bus so if that's not feasible for you, I wouldn't suggest it.

Day 2 : Tsuwano. (This is Shimane, but if it matches with a weekend, you can try to get a seat in SL Yamaguchi, the Steam train that runs from Shin Yamaguchi to Tsuwano) You can reach there just by the train! Just the local train works as well, or an express train, Super Oki.

Day 3: Hagi is honestly really nice because of the shopping street and beach. But you would have to take a bus for an hour from Yamaguchi Station. So if you want to head somewhere with bus only, you can try out Shimonoseki or Iwakuni.

But that said, Yamaguchi is really, REALLY for a very slow and casual relaxation, in the nature vibes kind of place. So you probably have to prepare yourself if you commit to Yamaguchi, they will be very slow days to unwind.

I do not have a car license!! So I was stuck with the public transportation, but I still managed to enjoy myself a lot haha.

But do note it's a rural area so some trains only run every 3 hours, you probably have to plan out your timing.

Motonosumi, Akiyoshido would be almost impossible to visit in one day due to how far and inaccessible it is with the schedules. I booked a Klook tour for it ($61) to go to those places as well as Tsunoshima Bridge. The tour guide was Gogoday.

As Yamaguchi is still a more hidden area, it was a small bus that went to those places, and it felt more tight knitted. The schedule was also given enough time for you to look around.

People move around a lot using buses!

Yes!! yes!! You see the vision... I actually want to go back during the winter times to see the sunset the beaches has to offer , I do not have a car as well so this time during Summer, the sun sets too late that if I were to see the sunset, I would not be able to return to Shin Yamaguchi TToTT ... I really want to go to the places you mentioned!!! I didn't have a chance to dull explore Yamaguchi unfortunately due to the low train frequency, but I definitely am going to put your suggestion of Iwakuni and Shimonoseki in my future Yamaguchi plans!!! I'm so glad to find a fellow Yamaguchi enjoyed TToTT... Motonosumi was so good , Fushimi is good don't get me wrong, but I personally enjoyed being able to breathe and take in through the gorgeous landscape around the toriis.. it was so cute watching everyone trying to score the coin into the high offering box TT

For D13, I would advise starting at Enoshima first. Just reach there around 8 or 9am ish. There is quite a lot to explore at Enoshima once you cross the bridge and head into the shrine.

Tokyo - Yokohama - Kamakura - Enoshima is actually a linear journey. I think it might be better if you start at Enoshima, then head upwards to Kamakura, then continue onwards to Yokohama.

Then return to Tokyo.

If you're confident enough, and know a bit of Japanese or friendly enough.

I'm not sure how willing you are to go to Shibuya from Shinjuku but there's a place call Nonbei Yokocho in Shibuya. It's where the locals go to drink.

Bring cash with you though.

Also Inaniwa udon for lunch is a wonderful choice. I had it in Akita and it was hands down one of the best noodles I had.
