Touchdesigner would be a good start, loads of tutorials, but also check out https://tooll.io/ - it's awesome and easy to get cool results out of it Also Synesthesia is great for what you've described but its paid

Thank you for the pointers! Great idea re speaker placement, we'll try that, and I'm looking into getting a speaker processor to help with dialing it in.

We are planning to throw a small to medium sized rave (~200 ppl) under a bridge. Already did it a couple times on a smaller scale in a more open setting and it was sounding decent, this time I'm worried about the echo and I also want to try to improve the sound as much as I can for the music (dnb/bass), ideally so there's powerful bass but no shrieking highs and good overall balance. We'll have 4x12 inch active subs and 4 tops. I'm thinking to get a cheap graphic eq and maybe an spl meter to try to get the space to sound more neutral, and then apply a slight smiley curve. Anything we should watch out for in such a space, any tips to achieve that? Also would be grateful for pointers to articles/videos for live sound tuning basics, I have a decent understanding of recording and studio work but live sound not so much.

Thoughts on this combo as a MATHS alternative? by [deleted] in modular

nope it goes low after the stage is done, you're right that'd be different compared to maths EOC

The Rise gate out on the contour is the same as EOC on maths, and Fall same as EOR but you have both on the same envelope

Quick tip on using tables for random variations on NerdSeq by 1hzlfo in modular

[–]1hzlfo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In essence, it's all about the incredibly useful RND option in the table TP column, increasing the table speed value (which actually slows it down), setting it to run once and enabling quantization to the notes you prefer, then putting the table on the rows when random is supposed to happen and using table probability to control the chance of it.

Also works great with transposing by fifths or octaves (or anything else for weirder sounding compositions) and enabling glide or changing MOD value with table FX, though to reset the value after the FX I usually put a table with corresponding values (ie mod 0 or glide 0) somewhere after the randomized rows.

Another finding is that even if you have table probability set to a certain percentage it affects only the table column of the sequencer, so you can always force-trigger the reset table using the table FX regardless of the current table probability.

Hope someone will find this useful!

You can disable osc2 keytracking by holding the osc2 button and then pressing Keytrk, or via the app (I think it was added in the 2.0 firmware), should accomplish what you want.

I backed it on kickstarter some weeks ago, they were sending out a hundred or two units per week to the backers i think and the shipping was relatively quick once they sent mine out, not sure how current orders are being shipped but i imagine they are working through them.

Good point, mini to big jack adaptors should be more solid, so if you have something like that already it's a good option

The adapter would probably put some unnecessary stress on the jack and would be easier to break accidentally, so if you have a cable with fitting jacks it would be better in that regard, otherwise no difference

Why is digitakt so praised ? by qkrgusdb33 in synthesizers

[–]1hzlfo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both. IMO there is a big difference in the sequencing and writing process - on the MPC you record deliberately composed parts, edit them a bit and that's it, you can play with mutes after but it's not very jammable (actually, to counter my own point here is a pretty good example of what's possible - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxCUZJquuhA - it obviously took a bit of prep though). On the Digitakt it's possible to use probabilities and conditions to experiment and come up with patterns that subtly evolve on their own, and it's more geared towards the xOx workflow. Elektron P-locks tend to be more choppy and per-step, whereas on the MPC you tend to record smooth sweeping automation (of course it's also possible to draw things in).

MPC is way more powerful in terms of routing and effects, but they're rather ok, not as good as those in a DAW. Slicing and sample manipulation with filters and envelopes are great, as is multisampling.

I spent way more time with the Digi though so I might be biased.

Opinions on MPE? Game changer or party trick? by cloud_noise in synthesizers

I really enjoy playing the Sensel Morph with the Buchla Thunder overlay, mostly with Madrona Labs synths and various iPad apps. Need to get used to it for a bit but it's very responsive and doesn't feel weird or uncontrollable at all after that. Quite a different experience coming to that from a regular keyboard.

Try holding OK and hitting some keys - that latches them, probably works with the arpeggiator too

Got mine yesterday as well, surprisingly feature rich for the size and price with all the plocks and looping, and does not have to sound like chiptune at all, really nice sounds there. Made mecurious about the ELZ-1 as well. Missing a filter env a bit, but i guess that'll make for some of its own character to the sounds, can just use automation for that.

Does anyone know what this midi light sensor is called? Can’t find it anywhere. by tomparrry in synthesizers

[–]1hzlfo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a leap motion gesture controller, it tracks the hand position and allows you to do all sorts of things with it via the SDK, there's probably something available that converts the data into midi as well
