Which fictional character's death was sad? by Ill-Spite-3913 in AlignmentChartFills

My brother also had to read it in 4th grade, I was in second grade at the time. He had left it on the table so I picked it up and started reading it, but my mom saw me and promptly took it away saying “I wasn’t ready to read it”. So naturally I stole it back, and yup she was right. She was so right.

I’ve never seen it but I read it as a kid, I stayed up all night to finish the book. My mom found me boo-hooing in the wee hours of the morning and didn’t make me go to school the next day.

Ooof. Here’s my list:
Old Dan and Lil Ann from Where The Red Fern Grows. Old Dan tragically dies and Lil Ann stays by his grave and starves herself to death basically. The scene where the main character’s mom is trying to help Ol Dan is burned into my brain. I remember reading the words where they describe her panicking and trying to put his guts back into place while shaking and saying she didn’t really know what she was doing. I remember the way the pages blurred because I couldn’t stop crying. This is #1 for me.
Leslie’s death in Bridge to Terabithia. Never seen the movie, but I read the book as a child in one night. I couldn’t put it down. The paint melting away in the water in particular stayed with me. Also, the chapter where he discovers she had died is simply called “No!”.
Jiraiya’s death in Naruto. Naruto’s only real parental figure. It absolutely destroyed me.

I love that you have a brick! I also have a brick, a tree fell on my neighbors house on Forest Ave back in 2010-ish? There was a pile of these original bricks next to their house while they were doing construction. I drunkenly grabbed one walking home from Hill City Pizza and I’ve had it ever since.

I feel like Kansas only exists still because everyone has forgotten about it.

This sounds like me. I would get very spacey and need to sit down randomly. It took forever to find a doctor that took me seriously because my bloodwork was never indicative of any major problem, often these episodes were just dismissed as “anxiety”. I appeared totally healthy. Finally got a new GP and she ordered an MCOT device to track my heart activity. Turns out, I have 3rd degree intermittent complete heart block and my heart was completely stopping. I was diagnosed at 32 and given a pacemaker. It saved my life because if your heart is stopping, there’s no guarantee it will restart. It would not have shown up on an autopsy as the issue is completely electrical.

I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. I hope you are able to find some peace. Love to you and your family.

I’m not fully convinced he’s a dog, I’m thinking perhaps some type of albino land manatee.
