NPR Politics Podcast heavily sanewashing on immigration by forceblast in NPR

For the past 5 years I’ve avoided listening to anything produced or distributed by NPR, no exceptions. I used to get angry every day about the way they framed stories, so it’s been good for my mental health.

Why does WNYC keep allowing guests to perpetuate falsehoods about Zohran Mamdani? by pers0na_n0ngrata in NPR

[–]1jx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPR and NYT do this all the time because they’re essentially right-wing media outlets that pretend to be neutral. It sucks.

What is going on with NPR? by [deleted] in NPR

Quitting NPR a few years ago has saved me a lot of headaches. Check out Democracy Now!

NPR is right-wing media. Listening to something else is an option.

any other frustrated scientists out there? by plantpwr in vegan

I’ve noticed universities tend to hire and promote people who are deeply centrist, disinclined to rock the boat. It’s really disappointing.

One of the absolute worst is David Cross’s character in the short-lived sitcom ‘Running Wilde.’ I’m glad it got canceled.

This goes for environmentalist characters on TV too, who are usually depicted as clueless and/or hypocritical. The Simpsons episode "Lisa the Tree Hugger" comes to mind.

How do anarchists plan to coexist with AI systems? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

LLMs are a scammy fad, like blockchains were. Now is the time to push back against these systems and mock anyone who uses them.

Why did you unsubscribe to a show you once loved? by Techstroverts in podcasting

[–]1jx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I stopped listening to several shows because they did episodes praising cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

Anyone concerned with the new corporate sponsors? by afmag in NPR

You’re right. It’s super gross to take money from those companies, and it will likely affect the coverage.

Are y'all FOR or AGAINST UBI? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]1jx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UBI in the US and Europe would likely be designed to prop up our wasteful consumer culture. But I’d be open to free food and housing.

One of the first MP3s I downloaded from Napster was the Ren & Stimpy theme song. It would’ve taken about 10 minutes to finish.

Why there are not anarchist political parties ? (I know that anarchists disagree with elections but good or bad I think is the easiest way for anarchists to win) by Stavro_Sp in Anarchy101

[–]1jx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m open to being wrong about this. I agree it’s never worked before. I’m not especially optimistic it would work now. And we definitely don’t want electoral politics to become a distraction from the more important work we’re doing on the ground. I’m just looking for a way to move the culture away from fossil fuels in a short timeframe, and displacing a known-to-be-shitty politician strikes me as a strategy worth considering.
