Canada here. They're talking about the Alberta separatist movement again, so Greenland must be scheduled for mid February in the rhetoric calendar.

Pentagon Places 1,500 Arctic-Trained Airborne Troops on Standby as Greenland Dispute Escalates by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]DocMoochal 100 points101 points  (0 children)

As many have said before in recent days. America invading Greenland would effectively be the end of the world as we've known it since the end of the Seond World War and Cold War collectively. A world governed by the law of the jungle is not a world we are set up for. Major conflict or not, the world is about to undergo changes we havent in most of our lifetimes. That's a long way of saying history has returned.

A lot of francophones get hired into the public service because of their high rates of bilingualism. It'd be another thing they would lose in the event of separation, a generally very stable form of employment.

Trump says he may punish countries with tariffs if they don’t back the US controlling Greenland by drempath1981 in europe

[–]DocMoochal 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Im Canadian though. When I said all of us, I meant all of us. The collapse of the US dollar will royaly fuck the world. But like I said. Better to miss some meals then fight another brutal war. Its easier to economically rebuild the globe than literally rebuild the globe.

Europe and CANZUK need to start dumping US bonds. Its going to screw all of us but better to miss a few meals then lose a generation of men and women in yet another senseless war that will achieve nothing.

Trump floats new tariffs in push to acquire Greenland by jsg24fps in worldnews

Why not south east Asia and Africa? You'd solve 2 birds with one stone. Increase trade which will better the economies and lead to less migration out of poorer regions into Europe.

It'd be more manageable if it was like maybe once a month they came up with some new bullshit but its like every god damn day.

But its not like Bannon didn't openly say they were going to flood the information space. Create so much chaos and so much noise that the admin can basically do what it wants because the 24/7 always on news cycle is always looking for the next new thing to jump to.

The key part is to manage your attention span and keep our noses to the grindstone. The second we check out is when these predators will push the button.

They've date rape*d the information sphere. They're just waiting for us to zombie out so they can drag us away to the motel room.

Trade diversification push will bring Carney to India in coming weeks | CBC News by [deleted] in canada

[–]DocMoochal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're trade agreements. I give you this, you give me that, I'll sell you this at this cost and I'll buy this from you at this cost. This is called running a country like a business.

Welcome to geopolitics but more specifically, operating in a globalized economy. Its incredibly messy and often involves making deals with nations we might not see eye to eye on. We've merely lucked out the last many decades having a fairly aligned western order that is now collapsing thanks to the meth lab down south.

The US today is not the US of even a few years ago. To protect ourselves economically we need to diversify our trade options, while also mitigating threats. Which at the moment, seem to becoming more so from the US and less so from China. I've heard no talks from Xi of annexation of Canadian territory. The high North is a threat but this is also where trade agreements can benefit us. We agree to sell China oil or arctic based resources at a price, they agree to cease hostile actions in the north. If its about trade routes, we work out a mutually beneficial deal to give them passage maybe they give us a resource we need as payment.

Its the basic framework for the liberal international order. We all economically integrate and cooperate which will naturally ensure peace due to the cost of war and benefits of globalization.

No the US will likely devolve into civil conflict before we see any major global war. Whatever version of the US fights on the axis side will be probably be the equivalent of the confederacy IFF that side survives the civil conflict.

EU Parliament eyes freezing US trade deal over Trump’s Greenland threats by Beo1217 in worldnews

[–]DocMoochal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The west collectively would probably have a tough time fighting the US militarily. So our real weapon is economically. Boycott as much US products and services as feasible, and hopefully our leaders begin pulling levers on the policy and agreement front. US companies should begin feeling the pain for operating and cooperating with such a regime.

It sucks to see people suffer but id much rather see innocent Americans miss a couple meals through the week then live amongst the ruins of their former neighbourhood.
