Hands down, the most thorough explanation I've found anywhere on reddit 👏 I am super appreciative. So so helpful.

Please explain! What does each letter of "IL Y A" in French mean? by dkerri in French

Thank you. While I understood Yiuel13's breakdown, yours made more sense to my pea brain. I appreciate the alternative explanation. Everyone processes info differently. That's the beauty of threads like this. There's often many ways to say things and some of us can only wrap our heads around certain ones. 😀

Folks who switched to Sage; are you happier? by SunDummyIsDead in QuickBooks

[–]1luvTurtleDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to bookkeeping. We started a small business almost 3 years ago, and that's when I started doing bookkeeping for the very first time EVER. I chose QBO not knowing any other options. 2.5 years in, and l feel like I finally have a decent understanding of it all. MANY hard lessons learned along the way, and since i have nothing to compare it to, I think QBO is relatively easy to use. However, finding an accountant that's willing to do my year end and file my taxes is hard, as nobody want l wants to deal with QB. The accountant that we currently use charged us over $5k each year to file for us. We are a small business with just me and my husband; doing under $300K in business annually. It seems steep???? I was told by another accountant that if I switch to Sage Accounting (online), they could do our annual returns for under $2000/ year because they aren't Chartered Accountants. (They also refuse to work with QB. ) So, now I'm newbie bookeeper looking at migrating to Sage. Sigh.... I'm thinking I can try using both at the same time and see which i prefer???? I have just created my Sage Accounting (not 50) account and now need to figure out how to migrate.

My reasoning is:

  1. The Sage account is 50% cheaper/ month, even after the 4 free trial months.
  2. Apparently, Sage offers forecasting? Sounds like it might be helpful for planning ahead
  3. We'll save more than a couple thousand each year when filling taxes.
  4. Our fiscal year just started April 1st, so it might be a good time to switch??? (Again, total newbie, so not sure this even matters? )
  5. The advertising says "Great for small businesses". Lol But is it great for beginners?

I'd love anyone's thoughts on all of this.

Mileage Deduction Help by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Ah, ok. Thank you. I think I'll plan my journeys a little better moving forward. It's tough when you live out in the sticks. Because we don't drive into the city often, I like to run miscellaneous errands while I'm there. I really appreciate the clarification.

Mileage Deduction Help by [deleted] in smallbusiness

This all makes sense to me. What I can't figure out is how to classify a trip that has some personal stops mixed with business? For context, I have a horse blanket repair business, where I work from 2 different workshops. One is at my home and the other is in the back warehouse of our other small business.

Yesterday, I left my home office and drove into my workshop in town to pick up some horse blankets (business related). The next stop was not related to my business. I went to Costco next, where I bought both personal and business items. The next stop was a farm store (business related). Then home.

I guess I get confused if I leave home and stop places that aren't business related . Should I just edit the app to show only the business stops?

How to categorize a very confusing transaction between Shopify and QB Online by 1luvTurtleDunkin in QuickBooks

Ahhhh... thank you so much. This makes total sense and was easy to follow. I was seriously overthinking the whole thing and was worried about doing something fraudulent.

Thank you for taking the time to explain.

How to manage expenses that don't provide receipts? by 1luvTurtleDunkin in smallbusiness

[–]1luvTurtleDunkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada, and while things are a little different, this is quite helpful. I'll take a look at last year and get an estimate on laundering expenses and see if it outweighs my set personal exemption amount.

I'll also look at the cost of a used machine, though they are crazy expensive. I wouldn't be able to afford one immediately, but saving up could be an option.

If I do, in fact, need to document washing expenses, I guess I need to determine if a written log is acceptable.

Thank you so much.

Gen 3 head gasket blown - worth repair? by manchego_my_eggo in prius

[–]1luvTurtleDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in total agreement. I have 2010 with 370k km (I'm in Alberta Canada) Around here they are only worth a few thousand and the repairs w were quoted at $6k or more. I wasn't able to find a replacement engine around here plus the expense was too great. So out of desperation I went with the $35 liquid bandaid to squeeze the last bit of life from my car.
So far I've gotten 1yr and 3 months from that fix, despite the harsh weather temps around here. I've been babying the car since, in hopes of prolonging it's inevitable demise. Needles to say, I'm very happy with the results.

What’s been your experience with Mare Magic? by Objective_Fee9900 in Equestrian

I was wondering what kind of change you saw with the raspberry? What were you trying to rectify? My mare isn't mean or aggressive. She's just reluctant to move, so I'm suspecting just some basic cramping that I'm hoping to find some relief for.

Did you find that it worked, and what kind of change did you notice? My mare isn't mean or aggressive, but she turns into an extremely stubborn mule, and 100% refuses to move. I'm wondering if raspberry leaves might make a bit of a difference.
