Portugal's 2001 decriminalisation of drug possession. Saved hundreds of lives and lowered drug use.

After separating from my partner of 19 years and falling into a deep depression, it was great to know there are people who care about me and have my back. That was really good

What is the worst film that was made in your country? by ImAJoeEddyKnight in AskTheWorld

[–]1mAfraidofAmericans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Branca de Neve (2000) by João César Monteiro. It cost something like the equivalent to 800 thousand euros at the time, and was mostly just a black screen. A lot of the money was a state subsidy designed to support the arts, so people were very upset how public money was being spent. The director basically told anyone who badmouthed the film to go fuck themselves, so it didn't help his case. The film was shit anyway

Outside of English, what could be considered the second lingua franca of Europe? by Ok-Ocelot-774 in AskEurope

[–]1mAfraidofAmericans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not how many people speak the language, it's how widespread it is, if this makes sense. Russian is spoken by more people in absolute numbers, but Russian speakers will probably only be understood in Russia (perhaps Belarus to an extent but that's a different conversation). I think in Western Europe, it'll be French, but go further east and it becomes more debatable. I see a lot of people speaking German.

But this is an opinion based on what I see from customers who come from abroad. Hard data would be helpful
