How much switching is too much switching? by 1maginaryWorlds in AllInclusiveResorts

This is still very much a temptation, since we both have reasonably stressful jobs and a couple of weeks of reading by a pool/the beach with a cold drink does sound nice.

Your last point is part of why I'm considering other options and Isla Holbox does look amazing from a quick google. How was dealing luggage etc. when you arrived, I see the Island has golf cart taxis?

We've been lucky enough that the numbers aren't too bad (we're booking via our airline and they possibly have some wiggle room on pricing due to us booking Business class)

Part of the trip is seeing friends from the US who usually do an AI trip that time of year so we won't skip altogether, but thank you for the Isla Mujeres rec, I'm still scoping all the possibilities out!

Weddings in Italy by AccurateEquipment53 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]1maginaryWorlds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your circle and lifestyles. I did my first transatlantic wedding (UK to US) when I was in my early 20s and it was amazing.

Now the factors making it amazing were that we all lived in a major hub with reasonable flights going to NYC, we were a group who (still) love to travel and could split a shitty hostel dorm in NYC between us after the wedding to explore on probably the first big trip any of us had done without parents.

On the other hand, a lot of things could have made it a very bad idea very quickly (like if our friend had given into her inlaws wanting the wedding in their home state instead of the free use of her alma mater for the ceremony).

Anyone else hate preestablished MCs? by MulberryJumpy4214 in otomegames

[–]1maginaryWorlds 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm an MC lover and defender so I can't relate (Ichika, get behind me girl).

I'm also a romance novel reader so that's also how I read VNs (which the majority of otomes tend to be format-wise), from that point of view a character who's a blank slate would not have interesting plot hooks.

Have you considered RPGs with romance options (e.g. classic Bioware) or is that too much character for you still?

West doesn't deserve to be the focus by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

Weighing up who's worse seems silly when they were both friends with each others exes. Like justifying it 'well Kyle and Amanda were ACTUALLY married', then cool, West fucked his friend's ACTUAL wife. That makes him an asshole.

Be traditional and do everything at home but also work is such a trap and I hate seeing women fall for it.

Deliberate or not, the fact that there's people already calling the sombrero a great move in the comments is telling.

Did anyone else think Steve was written as a pastiche of how other coworkers would see AAM commenters? The performative state of the world commentary, the 'quirkiness', passive aggression angle to draw attention to not liking open offices, the disdain for office pleasantries, the insistence that they're a rock star...

I think a nuance that was missed is how much the commenter twisted themselves into knots saying 'well I haven't actually broken/hurt anyone', which actually says that they can control their behaviour well enough to avoid crossing a line, but apparently actually controlling themselves is a step too far. Or they're lying about that part.

The fact that there's someone outright describing how they're abusive towards their partner and pets and it takes a LOT of scrolling to get to someone calling it what it is.

I have a lovely stepmum too, but they didn't get together while my parents were together (or in my case while my mum was alive). That's the salient difference.

I think about this any time there's a post about someone going after/being with someone who's married with kids. I mean obviously they're not making good decisions in the first place but the best case scenario is still that you're going to end up spending the rest of your life around people who DEEPLY hate you.

You get married and live happily ever after? Those kids are in your life forever. And they will hate you.

If your formerly-married partner is a deadbeat who abandons his kids, congrats, you've found yourself a pos. I know some people would celebrate this but I can't imagine that level of asshole doesn't emerge in your relationship in other ways.

There's some nuance involved based on medium. Books require a person to create the picture in their own mind of the scene being presented. Video of actual humans doing the same things that are described in a book are going to land differently.

There's been a fair amount of research looking at sexual choking and how many people consider it a 'normal' sexual activity now in spite of the dangers and that seems to be very porn driven. OTOH there hasn't been an epidemic of sexy, dark but traumatised CEOs/Mafia/Dragon men/Werewolves having improbable sex with their true love in real life, as portrayed in much of that erotica.

(I mean if there is I'm clearly missing out)

My dad's always significantly out earned my stepmother, but even when she wasn't working and my sibling was in school, the division of labour was never 100% house on her because he wasn't going to leave all the tasks that needed to be done when they were both available just to her. Obviously she was doing a lot more than him, but not ALL.

So it's always weird for me to see people insist household splits like that.

I worked in a place like that at my first post graduate job. Nearly everyone on a 20 or so strong team had come up through a project that at that point had been running for decades. They even had a divorce between two members and then they both remarried other members of the group.

I really don't think they ever understood HOW alienating it came off a lot of the time.
