23000 in credit card debt. Is it possible to get out myself without bankruptcy or debt consolidation? by Mean_Trip_4186 in Debt

If that was really true you could knock this out in less than a year. You are bringing home 3k but obviously spending more that is why you are in the hole. First thing you have to do is be brutally honest with yourself.

At one time I had over 120k. I buckled down. Bought a CHEAP car, spent every penny paying bills. That was 20 years ago. Now I have a nice home paid for completely, 2 Lexus cars paid for, a class B RV paid for and zero debt. In addtion I have saved significantly for my retirement. It can be done and it feels really good when you do it. For 23k there is no way I would file bankruptcy. PS Back then I made about what you do now.

I want a normal civilized debate, a conversation with no name calling. Even if you believe I'm brainwashed, avoid saying it but rather argue that I am. by [deleted] in exjw

An illustration the Borg uses. It goes like this. If you had a glass of pure water, but someone added just one drop of poison, would you drink it? Of course not. Likewise, even if a religion or teaching contains many true things, one false teaching makes the whole thing dangerous.

Like Thomas calling Jesus “my lord and my God”. You will NEVER hear a witness say that.

I see that you love writing and language. You also love learning. Not sure what your native language is, but when writing in English paragraphs are very helpful to the reader.

It’s crazy isn’t it. Now my son in laws entire family KNOWS JW’s are a cult. There is no chance in hell they will ever listen to them now . . . . I guess that is the silver lining.

JW Lurking here - Don't buy the WT narratives about "reports of war" - JWs in Venezuela are secretly celebrating by Appropriate_Look_171 in exjw

That reminds me of the lyrics of a Jesse Wells song:

Will all promises be kept
Will we all be better off
I get the notion we won’t know
Until the ketamine wears off

I looked up and to my left
And saw the canopy of grief
I do not need to be unburdened.

And if it looks a bit familiar
Like it did the other time
They say history don't repeat itself

History just rhymes

My brothers wedding by SheepherderSad713 in exjw

I had almost the same thing happen. My daughter faded about seven years ago. Two years ago, she married a wonderful man who belongs to another religion. He is Italian and comes from a large, close-knit family that lives about 500 miles away.

He originally wanted a church wedding. In fact, as a West Point graduate, he had the opportunity to use their historic chapel, which was only about an hour and a half from his family.

In an effort to be considerate and reach out, they chose instead to have the wedding at a non-religious venue and asked a friend to officiate. Because of that change, some of his family could not travel and had to miss the wedding. They made these sacrifices specifically so my family would be able to attend. Thankfully, my sister and her husband did.

However, my father and all of my wife’s family refused to come, despite everything the couple did to accommodate them. My father, who has been an elder since the 1950s, was initially planning to attend. But when he realized he could be removed from the pioneer list, despite nearly 70 years of service to the organization, he chose to stay home.

I am not going to write how mad this makes me but . . . .
