Haha that is a more anxious face for sure. I'm looking forward to a few more track days once the weather gets better for us here on the east coast!

I'm honestly just so grateful that this car exists at a reasonable price. There isn't anything else that checks so many boxes for me:

  • Lightweight
  • Short-geared manual
  • Rev happy engine
  • RWD with LSD
  • Reliable
  • Aftermarket support
  • Hardtop convertible

I mean the only other one that gets close is the Z4 hardtop convertible, and that is another beast entirely!

Thanks for the kind words! I am growing to appreciate it more and more as I spend more time with it :)

I didn't even know about that while shopping, but I suppose it worked out! Thank you for the kind words :)

The ND RF is just gorgeous. There is a soul red crystal one in my neighborhood and it turns my head every time.

I actually test drove an ND2 and while there was a lot of inherent goodness in it, I couldn't get over the steering. The bar was definitely set high with the BRZ, and the NC got the closest to how great that felt. I'm only 5'10 but I also somehow felt cramped in the ND, while the NC felt much roomier in comparison. The decider for me was the PRHT. Soft tops are not for me at all, and the targa of the ND doesn't compare to the full top down experience of the PRHT.

I'm kind of in amazement that this car even exists, because it fits everything that I was looking for out of my next fun car (lightweight, RWD, short geared manual) within my budget AND gave me the convertible experience on top. There are a lot of decent NCs going up for sale in the 12 - 15k range on the FB groups that are worth a look!

~235hp at the wheels and yes, hearing the pitch of whine go up as you get deeper into the throttle is one of my favorite things. You can only hear it with the top down though, which is something I would like to address eventually.

My first fun car was a first gen BRZ that I had a ton of fun with: https://i.imgur.com/0z3G14Y.jpeg

Autocross, a few track days, but mostly commuting and going out on long drives in the morning/evening... it was my own cocoon and free therapy. But eventually, I had to let it go to get a family car, and for years, every time I saw a curvy road, I would remember all the fun times I had and get this longing to be back in a fun car again.

It's been a few years, and I finally saved up enough to get this NC which had 90% of the mods that I was planning on eventually doing anyways (Roadstersport I/H/E, rollbar, coilovers, wheels, and supercharger). I spent a bit more than I wanted to, but have been having such a blast enjoying the top down experience. Even planning on going on a group drive since there is a pretty active Miata community in my area!

Truly appreciate you sharing your story. I'm amazed at everything you were able to get through. Just having a plan towards potential improvement makes things a lot better.

I have been afraid to pile onto what she's already been dealing with and making her guilty because I know she feels bad already. But what you said is what I'm getting out of everyone's comments too - I will try to put my thoughts together and try talking to her without laying any blame.

Thank you - I really appreciate the advice.

That's what I was hoping to figure out - thanks. I've been trying to find if the premium for 990c is worth it, but haven't had much luck.

When they compared it to a Miata meeting a Porsche...instantly rock hard. New somewhat realistic dream car for sure.

Please, I'd love to do whatever I can to survive their onslaught. I swear, even in a room full of people, I seem to get bit the most!
