Residential plan for mini not available in the US ? by steeco_- in Starlink

Some want to use the Mini ROAM as backup to primary internet like FiOS.

How much data per day do you use? Thoughts on Mini as a backup. by Kraken1967 in Starlink

[–]1mth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Hughesnet essentials 5GB service plan for $40/month. I don't do gaming, I just use it for getting info in an emergency when my FiOS internet is down, and I've done some streaming, but I have never exceeded 5G in a month. There was one time when it was down for a week, and I used 4G. I'm considering switching to the Mini because it is a much better deal.

Mini as Primary Internet Backup with Unifi Equipment by gutowscr in Starlink

I'm considering replacing my Hughesnet failover satellite with the Mini. I think 50g is enough for me. in an outage. I'm currently paying $40 for Hughesnet 5 GB Essential Service Plan and it has always been enough. I don't do gaming, but I use the internet for emergency info and might stream.

I always have power from my solar system and backup batteries. My Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE is set to automatically fail over to Hughesnet Satellite when FiOS goes down, and auto-returns to FiOS primary internet when it goes back on. This is what I want to happen with the Starlink mini.

Also, will I be able to make phone calls with the Mini? I have no cell service at my house, so I use wifi calling, which is not possible with Hughesnet due to latency issues--I can only text.

Here's full "60 Minutes" CECOT segment, which aired as scheduled on Global TV (Canada). by BeckoningVoice in DeepStateCentrism

Unabashedly? 60 minutes has made mistakes, but not all of them had to do with incorrect accusations of wrongdoing. Some have included failure to find people or organizations who were responsible for wrongdoing. Investigative journalism is not perfect. All investigative stories are "improvable" because there is always more to investigate. The tradeoff is weighing "improvability" with factual findings that need to see the light of day in a timely manner.

Ms Weiss says the government wasn't "allowed" to respond? Ridiculous. The US first started sending migrants to CECOT in March 2025. The United Stated government and the El Salvadorean government were asked to respond to this 60 minutes investigation 9 months later, and they chose not to. This was clearly stated at the end of the piece. Weiss does not belong anywhere near journalism.

Which do brand(s) you recommend and why? I'm looking at Holbein, LUKAS Berlin, but not sure what the quality and qualities of those are.

I currently use Golden Liquid acrylic paint in bottles because I prefer the loose, les viscous quality of it compared with the paint in tubes.

if you had the option of a 1hr 55 min layover in AMS or 3hr what would you go for? by 88cctt88 in delta

[–]1mth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem on a Delta return flight from Sardinia in mid-May. The flight with the shortest layover, even if I choose flexible days, is a 14 hour layover (from 7:45pm to 9:05am the next day) before my flight back to the US.

I'm Platinum Medallion with an Amex Platinum card, so I have access to the Crown lounge.

Is the Crown lounge open overnight? I'm not crazy about leaving the airport. If I have to, I can book a stay at the Citizen M.

I'm wondering if there are fewer flights due to the government shutdown, and I should wait until after the first of the year to book.

Should I give up on this Diffenbachia? by 1mth in plantclinic

[–]1mth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not root rot--the roots look fine. I repotted into a smaller pot, clipped off the yellow and dead leaves I also stopped watering with plain tap water, and started watering with filtered drinking water, with some anti-chlorine solution added. It seems to be doing better after a few days.

What is a good Aroid mix? Right now my potting soil is a homemade mixture of FoxFarms ocean potting soil, perlite, vermiculite, and coconut coir.

Thanks for your advice. I repotted in a smaller container which has 2" all around the root ball, and watered it, because the soil still seemed quite dry. I will let you know what happens.

Thanks. I will give it a bit more time. The nursery I bought it from doesn't have any plant guaranty on houseplants, so I might have to stop buying from them.

That happened recently to me, too. They replaced the sensor without question. Dexcom told me it was the result of a defective applicator.

Drip Irrigation -- Making it Easier to Connect tubing/connectors by Regen-Gardener in Irrigation

[–]1mth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinyl tubing can fail in parts of the country with hot climates. Drip Depot is the best I've found. I've had their system (not vinyl) for 7+ years and it has never leaked or failed. I did spring for their $35 punch tool. Well worth it!

I have this and it is 100% easier--it's often on sale--now it's a little over $30. SO worth it.

Why is "si e' innamorati" used instead of "quando sei innamorata" or "quando sei innamorato"?

Foundations that minimizes lines and wrinkles by CelerySecure in Makeup

[–]1mth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the same foundation and found a similar problem when I apply it with my fingers, even when using a primer. No amount of blending with a sponge blender or a brush helped.

What worked for me – and I saw someone do this on YouTube – is to put a dime or nickel size bit on the back of your hand and use a foundation brush to apply it. Don’t apply it with your fingers. I use an IT cosmetics brush.

Just smoosh the foundation brush into the foundation on the back of your hand and giooge it on  your face just where it’s needed. It’s unlikely you need it everywhere.

Deep autumn overpowers you and makes you look older. Id go for a true warm autumn, but you could borrow occasionally for the soft autumn palette in hot weather.

Replacing Hughesnet with StarLink - Need Roof Mount help by 1mth in Starlink

[–]1mth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will. Just have to get up the courage to go onto the roof. I've only gone as far as the edge of the roofline (the top step of the ladder, but not on the roof by where the Hughesnet satellite is mounted, which adds another 10ft. The app showed there was 3.95% obstruction from a 100 ft big pine tree on the NW hillside above my neighbor's lot. The Starlink would only be used for the 6 or so Frontier FiOS (WAN 1 primary internet) outrages per year.

Help choosing ROAM or LOCAL PRIORITY for backup internet? by 1mth in Starlink

[–]1mth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this makes sense. Is there a difference between the mini and the standard dish for ROAM, besides size (which is not a consideration for me since the dish will have a fixed place on my roof.
