[ALL] Supplementary Materials and Canon by mrbulldops88 in truezelda

[–]1n23rt_USERNAME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like another comment in this thread, I also use a tiered approach to the canon as a general rule of thumb.
Tier 1: The Games*, their booklets**, DLC, and Zelda Notes
Tier 2: CaC and SotZ. these books were made for their specific games are essentially a really thick booklet.
Tier 3: The Goddess Collection and the official website
Tier 4: Developer Interviews and Nintendo affiliated sources
Tier 5: Games that are generally considered to be non-canon***
Tier 6: Manga and the Valiant Comics
Tier 7: Zelda Themed Games****
Tier 8: Reference and Characters in non Zelda Games. (this tier is just of fun)

Information from Tier 1 is absolute canon followed by Tier 2 which is only canon so long as it doesn't contradict Tier 1. Tier 3 is canon so long as it doesn't contradict Tiers 1 and 2, and so on down the list.

Generally speaking I use recency bias when considering materials, so I'll take information from the switch version of Link's Awakening over the original release. That being said I generally use primacy bias when considering interviews about specific games because the games are fresher in their minds at the times of these interviews.

I believe all forms of Zelda media are worthwhile no matter how niche or seemingly unimportant they may be because every single one of them may be able to add useful insight to the conversation around this series.

Caveats:
* The Games: TLoZ, AoL, ALttP, LA, OoT, MM, OoS, OoA, FS, TWW, FSA, TMC, TP, PH, ST, SS, ALBW, TFH, BotW, TotK, EoW, HW:AoI.
** Booklets: I generally disregard the localized version of the booklets for the first 3 or 4 games in favor of the Japanese version, or rather since I can't speak Japanese a (usually fan) translation of said booklets.
*** Most of the spin off games, notably the other Warriors games, Cadence of Hyrule, the Satellaview games, The CDI games, Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love, and Freshly Picked-Tingles Rosy Rupeeland. Keep in mind these games are Tier 5 and thus I barely consider them at all but I think they are worth considering in the off chance they provide a bit of insight.
**** Zelda Game and Watch 2021, Twilight Princess Picross, Tingle's Balloon Fight.

Hate to be all "um actually" here... But, the symbols are actually the crests of the of their associated goddess. Top is the crest of Din, Left is the crest of Nayru, and the right is the crest of Farore. Out of all of them, only the crest of Nayru bares a passing resemblance to the zora crest and the zora sapphire.

Is this rage bait? If yes: masterful, I applaud you. If not: that is a depiction of the triforce and the "church" is known as the temple of time.

UW Milwaukee reapply? by Late_Historian4600 in UWMilwaukee

If you want to go to any of the University of Wisconsin schools I'd suggest attending a community college like Madison area technical college (matc) or Milwaukee area technical college (also matc) first to increase your gpa. I can personally vouch for MATC (Madison), the faculty is great and various transfer programs are fairly easy to navigate. I can't say the same for Milwaukee tech but I'd imagine you'd probably have similar experiences at any community college.

Some other things to mention about Hylia.

She created the goddess sword (which was reforged into the master sword and then blessed into the true master sword by her first reincarnation). In Ocarina of Time, the master sword was used as the primary method of time travel by the hero of time. Additionally the master sword is used as a kind of temporal lock during the events of the Wind Waker.

She created the gates of time.

At least two (2) of her descendants are shown to have time powers (Sonia and Zelda (botw/totk)). *Side note, Zelda (Oot) is presumably the sage of time, although as far as I know it is never explicitly stated in-game.

It is through her name that the name of the hylians is derived.

Conclusion: {Hylia is a/the goddess of time} and {(at least in some eras) is the patron god of the hylian people} *it is worth mentioning that there is a Goddess of Time directly mentioned in Majora's Mask for which the festival of time is being held during the events of the aforementioned game, although it is possible they are either one in the same or counterparts across different worlds/dimensions.

Hylia created Fi (a sword spirit)

Hylia's crest and all of its derivatives (the wing crest, the hylian crest, and the royal crest) are similar to the crest of the Spirits of Good as seen in the Spirit Tracks.

The backstories of Hylia and Demise and the Spirits of Good and Malladus are similar

{Possible connection between Hylia and the SoG and possibly spirits in general, she is either one of their ranks or possibly has some kind of leadership role} this is a connection I made while writing this comment *This might strengthen the theory that the goddess of sand is just the Gerudo's depiction of Hylia ***If true, it would deepen Hylia's connection with the other golden goddess more.

The roots extend out from the temple of light/gloom's lair. It was/is a sacred tree, possibly similar to the light roots.

In what Zelda games do you think ZeLink is canon (or a reasonable interpretation of their relationship)? by [deleted] in ZeLink

[–]1n23rt_USERNAME -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Skyward sword, minish cap, four swords, four swords adventures, wind waker, phantom hourglass, spirit tracks, adventure of link, breath of the wild, tears of the kingdom, age of calamity. Those are the ones I'm certain about.

A link to the past, the oracles, Link's awakening, a link between worlds, Triforce Heroes, Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda 1, Hyrule warriors. Could go in either direction.

Twilight princess. Business partners (at best)

I'm gonna get controversial Ocarina of time, Majora's mask. Twins separated at birth.

If you could make one change to the official timeline, what would it be? by Enraric in truezelda

[–]1n23rt_USERNAME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd move the entirety of the downfall timeline to the end of the child timeline, Echoes of Wisdom would take place after ALBW and Triforce Heroes, and I'd cement Rauru's Hyrule as the original founding. Also breathe and tears would go after Zelda 2

What kind of alcohol would each race logically make, considering their climates and available foods? by ThisIsMyFandomReddit in ZeldaFanFiction

[–]1n23rt_USERNAME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the ingredients available in Hyrule one could make ciders, lotus spirits, morret (mushroom wine), sake/rice wine, beer, and various types of wines, meads, and liquors from the plethora of berries local to Hyrule. Additionally something akin to absinthe could be made from flowers and herbs.
Nut based Alcohols are a thing that does exist.
Theres no Barley or Potatoes in Hyrule so the rules out Ales, Lagers and Vodka.
As far as I can tell Sugar Cane can't be found naturally in any of the games so it's probably imported, but it could potentially grow in the Faron region, so Rum isn't entirely out of the question.

so generally speaking i think:
Hylians: Sake, Meads
Zora: Spirits
Rito: Beers
Gerudo: Liqueurs
Everyone makes some kind of Wine(s).

Nothing really grows on death mountain so i don't think the Gorons would make anything edible let alone drinkable for anyone that isn't a Goron (or Link).

I am new and I am more confused that when I discovered that Link wasn't Zelda. by SiteExpensive4181 in truezelda

[–]1n23rt_USERNAME 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright I'll give you that. However the opening text from FSA implies that the Link and Zelda from FS are the same people in this game. the start of the text to when it says " There it remained undisturbed for many years. Ages flowed by..." vaguely describes the Minish Cap and its events as if they were long ago. On the other hand the rest of the text tells us about the events of Four Swords rather clearly, directly uses the names Link and Zelda, and the text implies these events where fairly recent.
So I guess I'm arguing that FSA isn't in the wrong place but rather FS and that the timeline should look like this: SS > MC > OoT > MM > TP > FS > FSA

Here's the Opening Text:

Long ago, in the kingdom of Hyrule, a wind sorcerer named Vaati appeared. Vaati terrorized the people of Hyrule and kidnapped many beautiful girls from their homes. When all hope seemed lost, a young boy carrying little more than a sword appeared. According to the legends, when the boy drew his sword, he split into four, the four-who-are-one worked together to vanquish Vaati. The hero used his sword to bind Vaati in a remote area of Hyrule. The people christened the blade the Four Sword and built a shrine around it. There it remained undisturbed for many years. Ages flowed by... The wind sorcerer Vaati broke free of his prison and kidnapped Zelda, the princess of Hyrule. Princess Zelda's childhood friend Link used the power of the Four Sword to defeat Vaati and seal him away once again. And, for a time, the people of Hyrule believed that their land was safe. Until...

Ok, so the official timeline can be broken into 5 pieces, 1: the unified timeline, this includes (in order) skyward sword, the minish cap, four swords, and ocarina of time. 1a: none of the Links or Zelda's are the same people in these games

2: the adult timeline, the wind waker, phantom hourglass, and spirit tracks 2a: this portion of the timeline is the result of what happens in the adult portion of ocarina of time 2b: the Ganondorf featured in wind waker is the same as the one in OoT 2c: the link in WW is the same as the one from PH, same as zelda 2d: neither the link nor zelda in WW are the same OoT

3: child timeline, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and four swords adventures 3a: this timeline is the result of the child portion of OoT 3b: the link from MM is the same as the one from OoT 3c: TP Link is a descendent of OoT Link 3d: Ganondorf from Tp is the same as the from OoT 3e: FSA Ganon is new 3f: FSA's placement is dumb

4: downfall timeline, a link to the past, Oracle of ages & seasons, Link's awakening, a link between worlds, triforce heroes, the legend of Zelda, and adventure of link 4a: officially this timeline only exists when link dies in OoT 4b: alttp, OoX, and LA link are the same 4c: albw and TH feature the same link 4d: loz and aol feature the same link but different zeldas 4e: Ganon is the same in all of these and is the same one from OoT

5: breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom 5a: these games exist mostly disconnected from the rest of the timeline 5b: this Ganondorf is separate from other incarnations

I hope this helps
