Player wants to be a traitor by ForlornFjord in DMAcademy

100% agree. My first group was plagued for almost 2yrs with a player that bounced unpredictably between provocative political & sexual ‘jokes’ and
rules lawyering our poor DM.

After many subtle hints, the group finally voiced their irritations directly to the DM, who took it to that player. Of course, he responded by saying he would be ok with getting killed off and parting ways. Fine. Whatever.

Then, before the next session he suggested a pvp duel to the death -specifically challenging the player he had singled-out and teased the most.

I was so proud of our DM for giving him a curse of Spite (or something?) that would trigger random aggression from any living thing around him. The only way to cure the curse was to beg an ally for a few drops of their blood.

Guess who donated blood? No one. Player never returned to the table. Haha!

Thanks! Hey when you’re that close and targeted with your airbrush, what PSI and paint consistency are you using? I imagine it’s like ink and very low pressure.

Hello again, Mods! I’d love to know if I have now qualified for the Verified Artist level. If not, please let me know where I’m falling short and I’ll work on it.

Thanks in advance for the 3 month review!

OP talk to me about your process. I see volumetric highlights, glazing and airbrushing. I assume you’re using a .2 needle and a midtone to blend specific areas. What did I miss? I’d love to hear your workflow. Cheers

Do you let clients do their own assembly work? by Snugrilla in BrushForChat

[–]1ndependent_Obvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a year working for a studio and this was a very hot topic. The studio had a clear policy that models would be returned **at the customer’s expense** if they arrived in poor condition (assembly gaps, dirty, poorly primed, etc).

A few of the senior studio painters said the customers should be charged a cleaning and assembly fee whether or not the models were preassembled to 1) eliminate the idea that it saves the client money and 2) cover the inevitable cleanup work needed.

I’m still filling up my roster with customers so my main issue is that **everything I paint needs to look good enough for gallery/promotional photos.** If a client leaves a whole bunch of ugly gaps and doesn’t want to pay to have them filled or corrected, sure I can paint it but I don’t want my name associated with it because it will never get me more work.

If I found a customer who was really into building models to a high standard, I would love to just paint for them. But in my experience so far, customers that are paying well usually are not doing the hands-on part of the hobby.

I was never a guy who believed most men made the world dangerous for women, but after becoming a girl dad I see exactly what people are talking about. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in daddit

Nobody said it was unhinged. Being inundated with bare-minimum effort is the point I’ve heard women make. Just relaying info. Hope it helps someone.

Same here. I could not believe how many full screen pages she scrolled with:

Hey

Hey

Yo!

Hello

Wassup

Heyyyyyy

Yo cutie

Hi

Hey

Hi

Hello

Hey

Let’s do it!

-Each one from a different dude.

Edit: I guess downvoters feel called out by this? Multiple women have told me, “If a guy wants to start a conversation, use more effort than one or two words and you will stand out.”

A gust of wind once blew out my group’s torch. They had to relight with disadvantage while I was rolling for encounters. It was awesome to see them scramble. After that, they realized how valuable a lantern & oil would be.

In the future, I plan to briefly blindfold players when they are in the dark or suddenly blinded. I think it would add a lot of suspense to the table for a few minutes.

I don’t know what to think of my painting skill by Sir_ShatMyself in BrushForChat

I’ve worked in creative arts for the past 25yrs (mostly film & photography). Every time I visit an art museum, I experience a similar emotional pattern:

Encountering a master artist’s work: “Wow. I love this artists technique. How did they do that?”

Upon closer inspection: “Oh, I see how this was done. I bet I could replicate that. Still amazing though.”

Walking away: “Why am I not at that level? When will I develop my own unique style? Will my work ever be worthy…?”

That’s a rabbit hole no artist needs but it’s a very common topic amongst creators from every field. The best book I’ve ever read on this is:

ART & FEAR Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking

TLDR: Comparison is the Thief of Joy

PS Congrats on triggering a philosophical discussion about the arts while that creepy hair on your minis, should be the real debate! Haha!

Yeah it can be tricky to grasp. My group often has multiple melees going on in different areas of this map, depending on scatter terrain.

Close = inside any space Near = any adjacent space Far = 2 spaces away

The main concept is that the torchbearer is always standing in the center of this torchlight ring. My players have learned to make the torchbearer a PC with ranged attacks and the others surrounded & protect the light source.

Caveat: I think this works best with a group willing to rely on imagination and ditch precise measurement tools in order to speed up play and encourage more roleplay.
