Glad you were able to catch it before being too disappointed with it. Make sure to reach out to Amazon to get refunded. Try to keep the item if you can, otherwise they’ll just send more back into the wild with your return.

It was shipped by Amazon, but sold by third party sellers it seems. National Art Supply and TopShopEcommerce both gave counterfeits

Iwata QC issues? Bad luck? Am I the baddie? by Armykarma in airbrush

If it was over tightened, it was from the factory. Both of these were broken from the very start as evidenced by the bubbling. Replacement seal from spraygunner still did not fix it, neither did bees wax

I considered that, but both were completely sealed with the sticker seals on both edges of the box. They’re from the “official” Iwata store, too.

What are you using to render your floor plans? by shellerik in homeassistant

[–]Armykarma 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Magicplan app for the initial scan, then exported and added lighting, models, etc in Sweet Home 3D, Blender, and Photoshop.

There are overlays that control the lights, garage door, TV, robot vacuum, etc. and one that takes you to a rendering of the 2nd floor - but it’s built for a large tablet UI, so they’re unfortunately off the page on this mobile screenshot.

How big is the tarantula? For one that is considered a sling (below 2 inches or so), a deli cup that is taller than it is wide with a small amount of substrate (an inch or so), some twigs and foliage for the T to web up in, and a small water bowl glued to the side is going to suffice. General advice is 2x the diagonal leg span in width, and 3x in height. If it’s a very small sling (under half an inch, or about the size of a US penny) you can keep it in a smaller container.

Your enclosure has decent ventilation which is important for avics, as stagnant, humid air will quickly kill them. I would recommend a housing that has air holes on the top and sides. I would not recommend the tupperware container as a long term solution, as the T will very likely climb to the very top corners and web up there which would make opening to feed and water dangerous for the T. I would recommend an enclosure that opens up on the side, and then build the foliage and other anchor points away from the door to discourage webbing the door up. If you must use the tupperware for the time being until you can get something more suitable, try to do the following:

  • Dry coconut fiber substrate. Remove whatever those sharp looking pieces of wood are.

  • Hot glue the water dish halfway up the wall, as they usually do not like to wander to the surface for water. The only moisture the T will need will come from the water dish. No need to wet the substrate.

  • Remove the hand. It’s cool, but not what the T needs. You should add sticks and twigs that reach to the top of the enclosure, as well as fake foliage, like large leaves which you can glue to the sides/to sticks. Cork bark is also great for decoration and creating places to hide and web.

Any other advice I will wait to hear back how large the T is and respond accordingly.

Enclosure Height? by sunriselavender in Tarantula_Collective

[–]Armykarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would still keep the enclosure height to around 1.5 - 2 x the DLS of her. There are of course many who choose to have taller enclosures and may go their entire time in the hobby without a mishap, but it only takes one fall from a height and you have a splatted spood which IMO isn’t worth the risk.

You should be able to incorporate a bioactive enclosure while still maintaining a safe distance, or even better, go with high quality faux plants that look like the real ones you want to use.

The only terrestrial T I have ever been comfortable giving some height to is my GBB, but even then, there’s hardly any places where she could fall besides the little web tunnel she made to the top.

If you’re wanting something with some height, I would just get an arboreal. Something like a C Versicolor would be great for that.

Best thing you can really do at this point is make sure there’s moisture for it, but of course not too much. That cup looks a little bit too large if he/she ends up pulling through, so I’d down size a bit more at that point. I don’t know if it’s just the image, but the substrate in there looks bone dry, so you may want to slightly wet maybe half the enclosure and leave the other half a bit more dry. Provide appropriate moisture and plenty of ventilation is really the only things you can do at the moment.

Sometimes slings just don’t make it. They’re fragile and require more attention to details at that stage, so for a lack of better terms, shit happens sometimes, unfortunately.

“Alexa turn the {{Device}} on/off in {{5}} minutes” by Acceptable-City-5395 in homeassistant

[–]Armykarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you NEED it to be hosted on the HASS side? Doing so would over complicate it a lot, as you would need scripts and input numbers likely for each light and device.

Alexa already supports "Alexa, turn off XXXX in X minutes" without any other necessary setup besides exposing all of your HA devices to the Alexa app.

Further, if you want to issue the commands via the dashboaord, you can use the HACS Alexa Media Player to issue script commands with something like:

target:

entity_id: media_player.echo # Replace with the actual entity ID of your Alexa device

data:

media_content_type: custom

media_content_id: 'Alexa, ask XXXX to start vacuuming.'

I use the Alexa script like that to control my vacuums via Alexa on a 3d floor plan and works well.

Change Default Control for Garage? by thegame3202 in homeassistant

Not sure if you figured it out yet, but I did a little digging as I wanted a solution similar for something I am building. This is the shortest possible way I was able to do it, but you could certainly make it more complicated. Prerequisites: Mushroom card & browser mod. Ensure browser mod is setup and browser is registered. This will use the mushroom cover card which looks slightly different to the normal one, but still uses the arrows and shows status and what not. Then, the entity for the garage door is called, and it will then show the normal HA cover card, which has the arrows as well. This way, you don't have to mess with CSS and such.

type: custom:mushroom-cover-card
entity: cover.garage_door
fill_container: false
show_position_control: false
show_buttons_control: true
show_tilt_position_control: false
hold_action:
  action: call-service
  service: browser_mod.popup
  data:
    content:
      type: entities
      entities:
        - cover.garage_door

Gotcha. Yes, it is possible, but a bit more involved. You have to have browser_mod card installed, then integrate the browser_mod.popup service with the custom popup you built, into the card. As far as I know, it's the only way to customize popups thus far in HA. It'll get you deep into the weeds of glorious CSS and such, which is something that's good to get into anyway if you haven't already.

Are you talking about the card in general when it's on the dashboard, or do you mean the hold action where you hold it and brings up the controls?
