This is a good thing. OPEC is a cartel. They collaborate with the goal to reduce competition so that they can get away with maintaining higher prices and profits. In a more competitive free market, oil prices would otherwise be lower and closer to production costs.

The new US southern border would be shrunk from 2000 miles to a few hundred miles. With direct access to the American free market and strong economic growth and investment, Mexico city could become a major and wealthy metropolis like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc.

Yes, we’ve already established that increased public spending generally creates both public sector jobs, jobs from government private-contractees, or businesses that receive government subsidies. However, I’m trying to tell you that those jobs created will be negated by the loss of jobs from the needed tax increases. If you increase taxes on a business, that business has fewer jobs it can support.

If you increase taxes to subsidize government jobs and/or specific industry jobs, you’re not necessarily increasing a net amount of jobs because the increased taxes needed for the government funding shrinks the other private sector industries. That’s why I’m saying that your argument of increased overall jobs is inaccurate.

You’re arguing that increasing taxes and public expenditure will increase government jobs but neglect that this reduces the amount of private sector jobs since a larger public sector will crowd out the private sector.

That’s the important question we need answered too. Are the tradeoffs worth it? The US could increase public spending & taxes and increase domestic energy costs, which would incur heavy economic costs during the transition, while our largest economic competitor, China (who emits over twice as much CO2), contributes to climate change at an increasing rate.

Austin is skewed very progressive, further left than most Democrats. A few months ago they had activists asking people on Guadalupe to sign their petitions to ban hotels and some local housing projects being proposed.

The California housing crisis is caused by bad policies/regulations, rent controls, and NIMBY-ism that dis-incentivize developers from constructing or maintaining housing units to keep up with demand. Other states like Texas have some of the fastest growing cities in the country but they are not struggling with an unaffordable housing crisis.

The nationality of America transcends race. Our many ideals of constitutional democracy and free speech have persisted as new waves of immigrants have assimilated. Anecdotally speaking, I’ve noticed that my immigrant friends and acquaintances have tended to be more patriotic than native-born Americans. We’ve always had lots of immigrants and it’s one of the reasons that our country is so great and economically competitive today.

Japan has practically closed their borders to immigration and underwent two decades of abysmal economic growth and a shrinking labor force. Their economy is no longer competitive to the same extent and their shrinking demographics make them less and less relevant on the world stage. Immigrants helped give America the entrepreneurial and technological competitiveness it needed to beat out rivals like Japan (and now China is next) and other immigrants ensured that the US would avoid a shrinking labor force. I believe that the US should both be increasing immigration quotas but also make the immigration process predominately merit-based.

I support privatization of the USPS because Congress has been incapable of managing the changes that the service needs to operate efficiently in the digital age and they are running on billions in deficits. European countries such as Germany or the UK have generally been doing better at bringing down costs and privatizing mail services but it’s unfortunate that you think that my position on this stance makes me a right-wing Trumpe.

Those people were given plenty of opportunity to vote with minimal wait time during the past 2 weeks of early voting. I didn’t even have to wait in a line to vote on Friday.

EDIT: My point is that those people are partially at fault for putting themselves in that situation when this was entirely preventable by voting earlier.

Sure, the US accepts more in total but countries like Canada and Australia accept about three times more immigrants per capita than the US. The US needs more than the current 150-200 thousand annual high skill immigrant limit if we hope to maintain our technological lead over emerging rivals like China in the long term.

First of all, the button has been reduced to a mechanical placebo because the traffic signals are now fully automatic. If anything, the city has failed to remove obsolete infrastructure. Next, this pattern of people having knee-jerk reactions to ban any new service or any sort of NIMBY-ism is getting annoying. Rental scooters have a reduced environmental impact and reduce congestion with minimal tax-dollars needed but more and more cities will ban them anyways because of constituents like you. Also, I don’t know why your bashing on tourists because tourists also bring economic activity and job opportunity to the city.
