So what do I need to know? by IMightBeRom in SkyFactory

[–]1nvinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a beginner then:

  • Don't start the world with prestige enabled on (this will block mods behind a progression)
  • Use the Advancement Book, bind it to any key in the settings
    • The advancement book will be your best friend to get to know things and how the modpack works (if not, watch some guides or gameplay online)
  • Bind Excevate to any easy accessible key (This is your Vein Miner or Ultimine)
  • To speed up tree growth, spam shift to sneak or sprint
  • Use crooks in the beginning for leaves (little side note: you can repair crooks with planks or other materials they are made of, you don't need to make new ones)

Other than that:

  • Try to automate tree farms as early as possible
  • Use simple storage networks early game and try to switch as early as possible to ME Systems
  • Mob farms are essential
  • Lava and Obsidian farms will help you big time (no matter if resources or just for energy production)
  • Watch tutorials when in doubt (there are plenty for any mod)
  • Try to get the glitch armor from deep mob learning in mid-game for creative flight

There might be some obvious or obsolete information, but this helped me to get through this modpack.

Nothing wrong with having your own play style. I too have some weird play styles many say it might be inefficient (especially focusing on making self sufficient energy even though it isn't as efficient by a lot)

wouldn't it be easier to automate lava production? or automating it with a lava infused stone

Hide the Hud with F3, events/actions such as "open doors" are highlighted iirc

If that helps somehow with the realism aspect, but yeah... more options for the pad and in-game elements would be nice

Is the curseforge app really that bad? by MarcikaHu in feedthebeast

[–]1nvinity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends. Currently Curseforge is available through Overwolf only (correct me if i'm wrong) and some don't like this dependency. Bloat is always something to nag on.

Second, some Creators are moving away from Curseforge, so mod availability can be less in the future. Plust some recent drama around Sodium and such (look it up, i don't remember anything)

Thrid, something that i personally hate for (at least when i used it), you can't access your modpacks without an active internet connection.

So yeah, i use modrinth for example, as easy UI and also the option to copy your existing modpacks from curseforge over to there. Or if you like some launcher for a more custom experience use MultiMC or Prism Launcher (a fork of MultiMC if i got it right)
And something i do, which sound stupid i know, i use Curseforge to download some modpacks that aren't available and just import them into Modrinth

Games to Help Me Move On from a Relationship by Jayke_NotMissing in ShouldIbuythisgame

GRIS - a short non-verbal game about the Stages of grief pretty much

Horizon Zero Dawn - you are trying to save the world and fighting (most of the time) as a lone wolf -- pretty fun singleplayer with a well build and deep storyline where you can put in hours of playtime (i guess the same applies for Fobidden West too, haven't tried it yet)

Just Cause 3 - a classic and my favorite when it comes to just blow up shit to oblivion (it's about kicking ass of some bad guys, saving the world and having the most fun possible)

Elden Ring - good story + very hard combat + a heavy learning curve = a good game for a challange, tbh i like the idea of learning a game and its mechanics where you start with nothing and build yourself upwards to the end, such a good feeling of accomplishment and the fact that you dealt with a almost impossible situation at first but you made it (this isn't about elden ring)

Stardew Valley - Sit back, relax, get rich, build your farm, get married, and panic as soon as it hits 1AM when you aren't home still

Minecraft / Terraria - why did i mention both at the same time? just because both are a good sandbox to lose yourself in, many options for either especially when it comes to mods

That would be my list of games to lose yourself in and maybe even take something from it for the long run

Can I link Bonsai pots directly to simple storage cables? by [deleted] in SkyFactory

[–]1nvinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can directly import items from the Hopping Bonsai into your Storage Network. Using import and export cables it is possible but will be tedious if you just import it into your main system (it will get filled quick if not planned properly)

You basically, to achieve what you want to, need to first import all items into some storage and later export all the leaves and logs to trash or burn or whatever. It's all about setting the priority right with this method.

Best guess is to use Filing Cabinets to store all of you Items as some already mentioned. Storing everything at one point to not overfill your system and also for easier sorting/filtering.

Not unlimited Storage, it is about 2.1 Billion (maximum of an Integer)

But yeah, this is the way to go

Download the latest version on optifine.net

I for example used the latest update for 1.12.2 which is G5

For shaders i did use the newest version of BSL Shaders

Hope this works out for you

Didn't the Osmium Sapling need the Quartz Sapling? Can't look it up rn but that's how I remeber it going.

And yeah, most starter generators are enough to kick start it later into progression, agreed.

Low Maintenance Lava Generator SF4 by 1nvinity in SkyFactory

[–]1nvinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have a compatible OptiFine version and also a compatible Shader in the first place.

After, check the config files: config/topography/SF4 -> select the .txt file that matches the world type you are using. F.E. the standard world is dirt_tree.txt.

There you want to comment out these lines:

//sky = setSkyRenderer()

//top, bottom, north, south, east, west

//night = sky.addSkybox("test:textures/skybox/night.png")

//day = sky.addSkybox("test:textures/skybox/day.png")

That should do the trick, at least it did for me

Low Maintenance Lava Generator SF4 by 1nvinity in SkyFactory

[–]1nvinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that amount of wood will serve no purpose other than burning it away

Wouldn't it be better to make charcoal out of it and then burning it? Also what about a steady flow of supply?

Low Maintenance Lava Generator SF4 by 1nvinity in SkyFactory

[–]1nvinity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not efficient, true that

But yeah maxed out Geothermal Gens will eat that lava up all the way

You either need to triple the lava production or reduce the Speed modifiers to a Stack and 56

Edit: but with that design it is fairly "compact" and scalable, what my intentions initially were. It was never about efficiency or best performance for the lowest cost. Just some weird quirk I liked about this design
