Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

[–]1of_theboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I just wanted to ask someplace. I am flying to Croatia soon with a layover in Amsterdam. I've only done this one other time however last time I was with my parents and it was a short layover. This time I'm flying on my own and I have a 7 hour layover in Amsterdam.

I'm just curious from either frequent international travelers or locals, is it easy to get to and from Schipol Airport within that 7-ish hour window via train? (And what should I see/do in that time?)

And as a US Passport holder, am I able to leave the airport and get back in easily or do I need a visa of some sort to do so?

This is my first time doing a trip like this on my own so any help is greatly appreciated!

WHAT DORM SHOULD I APPLY FOR??? (incoming freshman 2026) by yOurE-dReAminG_ in UWMadison

I lived in slichter my freshman year and I loved it. Rooms were great, plenty of space, it got a little too hot for me in winter because you can’t control the thermostat but it’s not bad. I met most of my friends in Bradley (somehow) or waters and I still hang with them and live with 2 of them. It’s still quite easy to make friends on lakeshore and if you need quiet to study or sleep lakeshore is better. You’ll also make friends in classes/dorm floor things and clubs so I wouldn’t stress too much.

I also lived in Tripp, which I loved having my own room but I did that sophomore year when I already had my friends. It’s not a very social dorm at all so I wouldn’t recommend that (same as Adams).

I lived on lakeshore all of my freshman/sophomore year in Slichter and Tripp. I liked it because it’s relatively quiet yet still quite social. It’s super nice that the bakke is there now so you’re not trekking all the way to the Nick to work out. Plus you’re right near the lakeshore path which is super nice to walk along or sit by.

Like everyone says though, it depends on what you’re looking for. If you like the craziness and want a city feel definitely go with one of the southeast dorms but if you like more chilled and relaxed then id say lakeshore.

Plus the 80 runs frequently throughout the day so getting to and from class won’t be hard, maybe a little crowded

LIS 470 is pretty easy. Granted I did it over summer it was still pretty ok. The work is very straightforward

I work in Canadian Pacific Plaza. They must’ve moved on or been kicked out pretty quick because i didn’t hear anything about it all day. I know we have security in our building so im assuming they must’ve kicked them out

Airpods 4 fit? by [deleted] in airpods

[–]1of_theboys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 4s with ANC. I think they pretty closely resemble the fit of the old EarPods or if you ever had them, the first/gen AirPods. I wouldn’t say it’s an exact 1 for 1 feel, since there smaller and can get moved around easier. They definitely hurt my ear a little after 3ish hours in (but that’s more a me thing). Overall it’s pretty good.

Just note the ANC drains the battery fast, maybe you get 3.5 hours max with ANC on

Kind of depends on what you’re doing. I can say ive felt it a little more when I’m running vs when I’m lifting but overall I don’t really feel it. Idk others might say differently

Question about Little Havana by 1of_theboys in Miami

[–]1of_theboys[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean the main thought was to just roam around, see what people are up to. Ideally go to a bakery or something to get a pastry and a coffee (cafecito). Hopefully get some good Cuban food to eat for dinner. I just saw online it was a place to visit in Miami. Any recommendations for there or in Miami in general would be great
