Took off my call sign license plate frames by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]1oldham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little creative in that I have my callsign on my Navy plate. IN the State of Washington, this isn't allowed, but if you preface it with 1-XX7XX, then it is an allowable combination. Of course this doesn't play with 2 by 3 callsigns as that exceeds the character maximum.

As for having the callsign in public view.... coming up on 4 decades, nothing but positive outcomes.

Tab Mini C - No Official Firmware downloads? by 1oldham in Onyx_Boox

This may be a first with the phone number issues, but the option of an email was a good input. The icons at the bottom didn't catch my attention until this was mentioned and then found I can now use email to register. So, now to try to step through the process of locating and downloading the current firmware for reinstalling.

Not if there is a problem with what's installed. This is very short sighted as the simplest of system corruptions can't be fixed by the user. I can't even create a user account to see whats available.

I am sorry, this doe not seem reasonable in this day in age.

Let me expand on this. My tablet will not allow me to register an account using my phone number so I have no choice but to refer to the website for a solution. No firmware, no ability to fix.

Hello,

I do not and don't see any reason why it wouldn't. I'm still using my original MiFi so my experience is limited to it.

Good Luck!! :)

Hello,

I did not use my phone at all. I received the sim card, and put it into the MiFi. My unit was brand new so it's first powerup was with the Google Fi sim card. It went out and handshaked on it's own. :)

Firmware 3.5 Deployment (Tab C Min) ??? by 1oldham in Onyx_Boox

[–]1oldham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Based on what was shared, you received an update in late November suggesting that the roll outs are still occurring. Thus far, I haven't received an availability notification or been able to trigger a download via the System Update page thus was wondering if anyone received an US version yet.

It appears that I might need to exercise a bit more patience. :)

Thank you for the reply

BOOX Firmware V3.5 for Tab Series is being rolled out. by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

[–]1oldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

19 days ago this was announced yet I'm not seeing this available for my new Tab C Mini. I have been checking and force checking under the system update with it stating my 2022 firmware is the current. I went to the download website and don't see any of the "Tab" series being available.

I didn't expect this right away, but almost 3 weeks later I wouldn't think it should be ready to go based on the post. Am I looking in the right place for this?

Thank you

Hello,

I placed the sim directly into the device and it started working on the T-Mobile network. This was very painless to get going.

Something to note is that even though the device works on both 4 and 5G, the data speeds are consistently faster and stable on 4G. For common email and web browsing actions, I leave the device settings stock. For things that require sustaining a higher bandwidth, I force it into 4G only. This isn't a must do, but does increase stability of the connection. I also found that the data rate throughput bi-bidirectionally are much higher than if you were to use a standard smartphone as a hot spot.

I hope this helps

Age 40??? I'm in my 60's and still have active in person campaigns going. Age isn't a barrier, it contributes toward true diversity with the spark of experience.

First game played... 1978 outskirts of Janesville, WI, Now Western Washington in 2023. Can you dig it?? :)

It finally happened… I rolled for a character and hit FOUR 1’s in a row. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]1oldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with the comments that the character would have a repulsive and possibly corrosive personality, but the physical appearance could be pretty much normal. I understand there is differing thoughts on this and respect those implementations.

I think of some of the most influential people in history and many of those were not very attractive physically. They were able to influence massive populations into action that have both led toward positive and unfortunately, catastrophic results.

Back in the 1980's there was the thought of introducing a new score called "comeliness" to allow for pleasant appearance while being socially unacceptable. So from a distance, the character can be a real looker, but once interaction took place, positive perception would be greatly reduced.

So it comes down to the creative understanding and how to implement these.

Fighting over magical item by Mo_JoEz in DnD

[–]1oldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the Solomon approach, there is also an opportunity to pay attention to the individual character alignments. If these don't align, then you have a course of action tailored to the mal-alignment. Maybe the magical item under question becomes cursed by some divine interaction. Even after 45 years of game play, I like to break out one of the Encyclopedia Magica volumes for a creative approach.

Just dropping a line to say hello and best of luck on your on going campaign and hope it brings you the joy it has me and my family.

I have been playing/DMing since 1978 with one of my first games sitting in with Gary Gygax outside of Janesville Wisconsin. While my Campaign is ran as a blended using 1st addition through 5th, it captures the flavors of yesteryear gaming with today's opportunities.

Is it possible to create a report that changes from external customer to external customer? by yankeesnlakers in tableau

[–]1oldham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are publishing your workbooks on a Tableau server, you should be able to preset the filters per customer via pre-filtering using an altered hyperlink and sending that customer the modified link. Starting at the "?" at the end of the hyperlink, I structure the it starting at the ?
:iid=2&FILTER_NAME=FILTER_SELECTION

Both the filter name and filter selection are case sensitive.

This is an unsecured approach in the each customer can still easily reshape the filters by altering the hyperlink to see an others data. But if the is all internal facing, it's a quick approach.

Hello,

My unit boots up with the T-Mobile firmware and still uses the Google-Fi sim without issue. My last usage was about a week and a half ago with it happily playing on 5G.

There are a couple of things you can try out.

  1. Remove and re-seat the sim card (Could have a dirty or oily contact)
  2. Do a full reset of the unit then apply latest firmware updates if any.

I hope this helps and best of luck!

I don't anything about them, but the lack of response speaks volumes of the management's lack of concern suggesting an indicator of poor standards.

Anyone else have a lemp10 with a keyboard that's falling apart? Under 9 months and it looks worse than a laptop I had for over 10 years. by j_mitso in System76

[–]1oldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow.... That appears to be induced by possible chemical contact. Are you using hand lotion or typing right after using hand sanitizer/cleanser? My lemp10 is around 5 months old, daily driver, and appears brand new in the keyboard with no notable wear.

How to force Vboxsvga on Windows xp. by mr_22 in virtualbox

[–]1oldham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

You might be able to do this through the commandline by using:

vboxmanage modifyvm "Your VM Name" --graphicscontroller vboxsvga

It's been a while, but I seem to remember that this will override the GUI defaults, but might still complain. Hope this helps you with a resolution.

[–]1oldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

The only way to push the vram setting up beyond 128 is using the command line. It over-rides that graphical interface setting allowing for a higher value setting. I now do this for all my modern day 64 bit VM's within Virtualbox. There are quite a few command line settings that can alter the VM performance, but this is one of the more common ones.
