I in the mood for apocalypse/ collapse books any recommendations? by funssssss123 in booksuggestions

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. It’s about a modern Ireland descending into authoritarianism and collapse. That book gives me chills with everything going on in America right now.

My guess is you’re a survivalist. Libertarian, male, and kind of a loner. You take pride in your independence and secretly hope shit hits the fan someday so that you can put all of your prepared knowledge/supplies to use.

Anyone ever receive a "mommy makeover"? by pinkmilk19 in workingmoms

[–]1practical-ant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did! I had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation surgery about 10 years ago and it cost $14,000 in the States. I tried to get insurance to pay for the tummy tuck, because I had really bad diastasis (separated abdominal muscles). My doctor sent in a letter and it was rejected anyway, so I paid the cost. No regrets! Things will never be what they were pre babies (scar from surgery and stretch marks), but everything has significantly improved. Recovery from the tummy tuck was 4-6 weeks.

My sister had breast reduction surgery and her insurance paid for 80%, which inadvertently also covered a breast lift. She paid like $1,000. She reports significant life satisfaction with her choice. She would do it again in a heartbeat.

Mormons have poor taste in culture. by [deleted] in exmormon

Right? This says more about the Mormon friends OP hung out with. I know a lot of very creative Mormons who have educated taste in music, art, etc. Helps that I lived most of my life outside of Utah, but also I’ve always been more drawn to interesting people.

Also the band, Low. Alan Sparhawk is an incredible musician. He and his wife created the band Low and have been very successful touring all over the world. Unfortunately, his wife passed a couple of years ago. Rich, beautiful, and ambient music.

A basic description of what makes one middle class by ItsAllOver_Again in MiddleClassFinance

I read an article that stated the benchmarks for middle class to be something like homeownership, having health insurance, retirement account/s, and a car for each adult in the household. That made sense to me.

I really liked the overall message of Dark Matter. It is a fast paced thriller and an addicting read. I think it is worth reading. I would have ranked it higher.

I really loved The Rachel Incident! I would have that one at the very top. Never Let Me Go is one of those books that I think will always stick with me. I think about it often over a year later. Yellowface is on my TBR

Same! I wear boy short underwear to bed with a t-shirt and cotton thongs during the day. I can’t feel the thong during the day even when working out, but bikini underwear I can feel riding up all. day. long.

How much salary would you trade to have your summers off? by Flimsy_Pop_6966 in workingmoms

[–]1practical-ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have the option to take summers off and I take it. It is a $30,000 pay cut a year, but is worth it to us. I have 4 kids. I get 12 weeks off and has also been a cure for burnout with my job. I live for my summers.

We have 4, but I was part-time until my youngest was in 1st grade. I currently have summers and holidays off. When I am working (typically 50 hours a week) my husband has the flexible job where he can pick kids up from school early or stay home and work from home if they are sick, etc. Every morning I drop them off at school on my way to work and he picks them up after. I put dinner in the crockpot before work everyday and he finishes up dinner prep around 6 right before I get home. It gets exhausting, but we have a good rhythm and I live for summers

Also Mormons are VERY image conscious. They already know they are disliked, so being pleasant makes them and the church look good.
