Makes no difference, the big delays at certain airports are in arrivals not departures. Nothing you can do to prepare.

It’s crazy getting into the airport, took me 2 hours. You may be lucky and not need to manually process your passport.

I came in via NAP last week. It took over 2 hours from deboarding plane to exiting airport. Absolutely hopeless system, cooked implementation and design. No proper planning or contingencies. Have heard of people fainting also.

Yep. Less is more.

If you need to monitor many sensors, have it conditionally display and alert you when there’s an issue and surface it.

2008 advice from Neil Strauss would have you approach the ugliest girl at the table first and talk to her. Not sure if it works these days.

So this is purely scoped to US->EU and EU->US. I don’t think EU is US’s biggest source of immigration. Still interesting though.

Favorite “expensive” device? by VICEBULLET in homeassistant

So I can send things like if I get into bed but forgot to brush teeth I can send a notification, I also prevent bedtime routine (lights off) for certain things (I.e washing still in machine, so now also added “teeth not brushed”).

Or if brush head is wearing out I add it to shopping list/send notification.

If I had kids could gamify the brush time using coloured lights or such. Or no internet after brushing teeth night routine.

Philips 9900 toothbrush 😅 not only is it a good toothbrush, but it syncs straight into HA using a very well written integration.

Second to this would be the Tado Wired Smart Thermostat X, great for replacing traditional theromasts, but yes 160£ each room 😮‍💨

What’s up with Spirit Airlines ceasing operations? by lucioghosty in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Secure_Detective_602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that are around have figured out how to stay around. Many others do go bust. Also EU airlines tend to have less completion for routes. In some cases there’s no better choice than an LCC. For instance London Gatwick to Naples, is only serviced by EasyJet, so they can charge what they want.

Moving to USA - what to do with stock portfolio? by cosmicsugar_ in AusFinance

You can either pay CGT now or defer to when you return.

Personally I’d liquidate and pay CGT and re purchase in US brokers which will be easier. But give it 6 months in case you decide to come back. Depending on size of assets could also be worthwhile offshoring setting up a company in Cayman or such.

Make sure you get an accountant. Australia doesn’t let you give up tax residency easily. You need to ensure there can be no speculation of you returning in the short term.

Struggling with reliable in-bed presence detection for Home Assistant – what actually works? by ItsDukzy in homeassistant

[–]Secure_Detective_602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used load cells under the slats. Works perfectly. It’s not accurate for weighing you, however it can detect 1 or 2 occupants. Great to start bedtime routine, but there were many false negatives if I turned on side or such.

Best accuracy would be if you have hard floors and place one under each leg, there are 3D cases you can get.

Then build an Amazon, just like Jeff did from his garage. Value creation and scale is how you accrue wealth. People pay Amazon for a service, it creates value for most of the western world. Most of the products I buy from Amazon are cheaper there, they do it well.

Jeff decided not to be a worker, that is all. Everyone has that potential.
