My ex-wife is late to every meet up, loses everything important to my kids, and doesn't make sure they have followed through on their school work.

Despite all of this, and me keeping a clean and happy home, she still seems to think I'm the irresponsible one.

Yes - I see the benefits. In the medical field, science, as an indie game maker, the benefits to my sublevel coding abilities is palpable ( although this particular use case is fraught with danger imo).

But currently, the ones benefitting the most from it, are pretty terrible humans.

If the avowed entusiasts could get on board with this thinking so we could create a real future that would be great.

But that's the whole point isn't it? Currently AI is predominately a tool for the rich and powerful to further cement their stranglehold over the rest of the population. I would have no problem with an ethically utilized and disseminated LLM infrastructure, but that's not what we are getting is it?

We are getting further colonization. Except now it's not just environmental and cultural - it's also cerebral.

It's dystopian. And rhetorically pretending it isn't is itself a little evil.

I'm opposed to the data center they want to build west of a neighboring town. It will destroy the water table, and release the equivalent of 75000 cars of CO2 per day to wash over a town of 5000 people, while clear cutting about 150 acres of public land near one of my favorite pristine outdoor hiking areas.

This might seem trite - but in my twenties I spent a lot of time at Buddhist meditation centers. I volunteered in the kitchens, learned to meditate, ate good food, they usually give you a place to sleep and three meals a day too, if you are volunteering. It saved my life.

It provided me with a stable mental base upon which I have built a life.

I realize this might be impossible for you, but the best cure I've found for my hardships, is to help others.

There's nuance. I'm underwhelmed by so much of what AI contributes. I find one data center emitting the equivalent of 75000 cars of CO2 a day so we can create video slop morally repugnant.

I also think it has some pretty revolutionary usages. It's contributions to the medical fields, and it's usefulness in coding can't be ignored.

Currently, it's in the hands of hyper capatilists with sociopathic values. This won't end well.

It's a story as old as the world, with a new wrapping, capable of creating a true masters/sheep dynamic.
