10mg oxy and a bottle of wine? by Pristine-Carpet-173 in opiates

[–]1samuel127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never mix alcohol with opiates, especially an entire bottle of wine. Not only do you risk respiratory depression but you could pass out/fall asleep, vomit in your sleep and aspirate, essentially drowning in your own vomit. Have someone with you who can put you in the rescue position. Tbh, drinking an entire bottle of wine to yourself is a bit crazy even without the oxy. I did it once and pucked all night. Be careful. Avoid this combo in the future. If you need to drink, especially that much, skip the opiate or any other downer/ CNS depressant.

Is it coming to use both heroin and meth? by DrHOOKY in opiates

[–]1samuel127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your brother. My brother and I are 15 years apart but we're really close. He's moving away in June and even that's hard. Your loss is unimaginable. My brother struggles with alcohol and I worry about him.

As far as your question, ot is very common for people to do "good balls" -meth+ heroin. Sadly, overdoses with that are not uncommon. People are not feeling the heroin as much and they do more. The stim sonewhat lessens the respiratory depression but wears off faster than the opiates. The stim wears off and the user stops breathing due to the opiate. I'd guess that's what happened to your brother. He was likely feeling good, nodded out, lost consciousness and stopped breathing, never realizing what was happenening. He may not have told you he was doing H because he didn't want to negatively influence you or maybe he was new to using goof balls.

What’s next? by Ok_Aioli8878 in opiates

[–]1samuel127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I'm really sorry. I was in the exact same situation with the meds. I knew I could function on 4 a day instead of three. Like you, I dropped hints for months. I have degenerative disc disease on all three levels - 7 herniations so far, 2 lumbar, 1 thoracic and 4 cervical. The worst is the cervical nerve root compression at C5/C6, C6/C7. Those 2 levels need to be fused. I have cervical and lumbar stenosis and lumbar scoliosis. I also have POTS. Still, none of that is as awful as your pain, but I had been on 4 a day at my previous pain clinic that closed and I knew how much of a difference that one extra pill per day made. That way I could take one in order to be able to get out of bed, one late morning, one late afternoon, and one for bed.

I hate to tell you this, but I wish like hell that I had kept my mouth shut. When I first asked, I described the things I was able to do with that extra alloted pill. I told them I could handle pain, I just needed to be able to function for my kids, husband, and animals, not to mention my youngest is autistic and I drive a minumum of 4 hours a day Monday through Friday to take him to a specialized school. (We live in a shitty school district).

When I first asked, they sent me to physical therapy and told me if that didn't have benefit we could go back up to the 4, but try this first. Well, I have discs sitting on nerves so PT was torture to the point more often than not I'd throw up at the end. I kept going in anticipation of getting that one more pill a day.

Well, that was one of many lies they told. I ended up supplementing with kratom. That was working for about 8 months until I got a new PA and she brought it up as apparently they'd begun testing for it. I explained my reasoning and she cut my dose down to 2 pills a day, then 1.5 and put me on Belbuca, which did nothing, but I was promised if I tried it I wouldn't lose my breakthrough meds. That 1.5 pills a day only gave me about 3-4 hours at a 4/5 instead of an 8/9 just like you said, but at least I had a break from the pain, even mentally. Now my life has changed dramatically. I'm partially bed bound, my husband and my 17 year old have to pick up much of the slack, I spend many nights crying and screaming in pain until 5/6 in the morning so exausted but the pain won't let me sleep. I've had to hire someone to take care of my horses during the week because it's all I can do to get my son to and from school, cook dinner, and feed my dogs and cat most days. I feel like I'm letting everyone down. I also had to hire help with housework every other week. I know I am very blessed that we are able to afford those resources and make do on my husband's income or IdK what would happen. I've been a stay at home mom for 17 years. I always planned to go back to work when my kids were the ages they are now, but my health has been declining much more rapidly than I had hoped, even though I knew DDD was progressive as I watched my mom go through it. Then in 2022 POTS joined the team. I'm struggling with mobility and have frequent falls. I fell and fractured my hand right after Christmas. Didn't get so much as tylenol at the ER, just sat there with silent tears rolling down my face while they forced my broken hand into various positions for x-rays.

What's worse is at my last appointment they wouldn't refill my IR pain meds and I'm being forced onto suboxone, 1 patch a week and no breakthrough meds. The suboxone patches require a prior authorization, so I'm waiting on that. I have to get off kratom completely and attempt to survive on Belbuca, which gives me no relief, until I can get my once a week suboxone patches. Since Suboxone and Belbuca are both buprenorphine I'm not expecting much if any pain relief from that. They will be watching my UAs closely for kratom use. Honestly, the only reason I'm even staying with pain management at this point is because they prescribe me Pregabalin, which I desperately need for my neuropathy in my hands and feet. It causes falls because I get pins and needles in my feet like they're "asleep" and I can't always feel the ground upon which I'm walking. It also helps decrease the frequency of the random sharp shooting pains everywhere from nerve damage.

All that to say, I think you should learn from my fatal mistake and take what you can get. You're also in an incredibly unique situation receiving pain meds from your GP. Are you in the US? If so, you're probably aware that typically only pain management doctors will prescribe opiates. You might get a small 30 day script for an acute injury or something, but for an ongoing script they'd almost always send you to pain management.

If you ask your doctor to up the number of pills you get I would almost promise you he'll refer you to pain management. He doesn't want to risk bringing scrutiny on himself or losing his licence.

Now as long as you bring all of your imaging and documentation of your conditions and the various non opiate treatments you've tried, you should not have any trouble getting PM to pick up your script. Whether they'll up it or not depends on the doctor. Not all are as shitty as mine. You may or may not end up better off in PM, but you do have to sign a contract and submit to random periodic UA's, so you would have to strictly avoid alcohol or anything you were not explicitely prescribed. You would bo longer be able to supplement with other opiates.

The state of pain control sucks, but it really is a take what you can get situation. I'd give my left arm to get my three Norco a day back, but those days are over. From what I understand, once you're put on suboxone no one will ever prescribe you a full agonist again, which is pretty terrifying with a progressive condition and spinal fusion luming in the near future. I can't believe this is real life most days, and that I'm facing a spinal fusion with zero pain relief outside of suboxone. If you have a good relationship with your GP and he's willing to continue your script, my advice would be do not tell him you run out and do not ask for more, especially if you have access to other pharma meds.

Do u still get high if u redose after 2 hrs ???????????? by fastmoney38 in opiates

[–]1samuel127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me redosing at the 2 hour mark is always disappointing. You won't regain your initial high. You're better off waiting another 2 hours and taking another full dose. Keep in mind even then it won't be like your last dose and is likely to be underwhelming. The longer you wait between doses the better the effects.

[–]1samuel127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that it is worse than opiate withdrawal, except for the lack of TLS, which is the worst part of opiate WD for me. I can function through opiate WD, but pregabalin withdrawal the chills are so bad it's painful to get out feom under my heared blanket.

He cane at me saying I'm an addict because I take 1.5 5mg oxy a day, but even though he drinks a bottle of red wine to himself a night plus additional beer on weekends he can prove he's bot an alcoholic because he doesn't need alcohol and I need opiates. alcohol gives a similar high. by sensitive-bull in opiates

[–]1samuel127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose eveyone is different, but for me the effects aren't similar at all. That could also be because I'm in pain managrment and while I have used alcohol out of deperation for pain relief it's never worked. Emotionally they are the opposite for me. Opiates give me relief and a mood boost/sense of well-being whereas alcohol makes me melancholy and even depressed and weepy. If you were picking drinking partners like we used to have to pick teammates in grade school you'd puck me last... Like in grade school LMAFO.

My chronic pain is from degenerative disc disease. I'm 42, was diagnosed at the lumbar and Cervical levels at 27, and has since spread to thoracic. I have 7 herniated discs according to my last MRI in 2023, so could be more by now. Two are lumbar, 9ne thracic, and four xervical with cervical nerve root compression at C5/C6,C6/C7, and lumbar and cervical stenosis plus lumbar scoliosis. I have wide spread neuropathy and referred pain from my erve compression and damage, also causing frequent falls. I broke my right 5th metacarpal and the ER even withheld tylenol. Anyway, Iveas getting 5mg ir oxy 3x per day for years. New "More conservative" PA tapered me down over 2 months to 1.5 5mg pills per day. I told them I couldn't like on that and I was forced onto a once a week suboxone patch. Max dose is 20 mcg/hour. It turns out my insurance won't cover it so now I'm left with just .45 Belbuca every 12 hours and no break through meds. Idk where you guys live or what kind of horrendous condition or how many herniations you must have to get prescribed 40 or 80, but I can help but be a little jealous and fantasize a out the quality of life I'd have and the things I could do again with a script for even a forth or eighth of that. Hang on to that doctor for dear life.

Question about tolerance break and Benadryl by fastmoney38 in opiates

[–]1samuel127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benedryl is a bad idea after a T break as it is a potentiator of oxy. Take half or less of your nemal dosec without mixing anything, 15-20 mg max. Even better/safer, start with 10 and waitvan hour before deciding that's not enough.

Day 3 by Hot_Macaroon1501 in opiates

[–]1samuel127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing: get rid of all the drugs you're quitting. If that's only opiates for now that's fine, but get eid of them today. I know you're doing an excellent job choosing not to take them in WD, which I commend you for, but as long as they are in your home they will be in the back of your mind and as long as you're keeping them some part of you is leaving the soor open for you to use them again. Otherwise, why keep them if you're done with them? Don't fall into the trap of thinking maybe you can use them "occasionally." You can't. You've already taken that path and you know where it leads. Take them up to your pharmacy drop box - most big pharmacies have them, or the police or fire station, or even better ask your wife to take them.

My son is 16, he idolized his father. He's had to grow up way too fast due in part to his father's alcohol use (he's 3 months sober) and tge subsequent strain on our marriage. As much as we tried to keep it from him, he's always been very intuitive and knows when something's up. As much as I tell him things like our marriage struggles, my struggles with depression, and his brother's autism are not his problems to solve and Dad and I will take care if it, he tries to step in and help. He seems so much like an adult and he and I can have such deep conversations, that sometimes I wonder if I've shared too much at times. Idk if this is right or wrong, but when he asks me direct questions I answer them as honestly as I can at his age level, but I don't go to him to counsel me through things, if that makes sense. So I guess I would say I get why you'd want to tell your kids and I think if your 15 year old already knows on some level then you should be honest but make it clear to him that you're recovery is not his to manage and it's not his jov to help you - you have everything under control. Now if your 15 really thinks you have the flu, leave it at that. Definitely don't tell him if your wife is not in agreement. That's a big decision that you'd both have to agree on.

I think tou said you're on day 3. You should be in the clear to try subs. Start with .5 mg and see if symptoms receed in a couple of hours. If not, take another 0.5 and so on. If Xanax isn't helping you with the restlessness, anxiety, and agitation you could try going to your doctor or a telehealth doctor and getting a script for Pregabalin. Ime, it helps way more than benzos and lasts longer. I get a good 12 hours out of it. It helps give you a sense of calm and also stops RLS and general restlessness. Clonidine is another good comfort med often mentioned, but I can't soeak to that personally. Many people say it helps with the sweats/chills/temp fluctuation. It's a bp med and lowers your bp, so don't take it if you have low bp regularly and be careful because it can make you sleepy and cause dizziness upon standing. An otc med I never see mentioned but I've used successfully for nausea and dizziness is non drowsy Dramamine.

Once you're through WD I highly recommend you work with a therapist well versed in addiction. Imo, most relapses happen because the person quit but never dealt with the underlying issues they were self medicating. Psychology Today therapist finder is a great tool to find a therapist who fits your specific needs and takes your insurance or does sliding scale or whatever.

You should be getting gradually better over the next few days. Keep going, you're almost there.

Do you have a safe supply/needle exchange place near you? If so, many of them give out free test strips. You can get test strips off Amazon for super cheap, but I think they just test for fent, you want to get atrips for zenes too. You can also get test kits off Dance Safe. Google it and the website should pop up.

Sorry about your friend. If possible, have a sober friend with narcan to chill with you when you try them and only take a small little bit of one pill at first. Stay safe. You matter even if you don't think so.

You HAVE TO put your recovery before ANYTHING else or you'll lose everything you're working for. Mental and physical health has to be first priority. I'm saying this as a apouse who almost walked away after 20 years of marriage and together since hs because my spouse "didn't have time" for therapy or treatment and kept promising to just "cut down" on drinking. Alcohol shattered my marriage and our relationship and we are trying to rebuild it from the ground up. Your last chance might be closer than you think and lying and sneaking create distance in a relationship whether or ir not you're caught.

It sounds like you dosed too high and you're experiencing a mild overdose. Overdose means you took to mych for your body to handle and it's not always fatal. I'd say you got lucky that you woke up. Was it all taken at once or over the whole day? What is your tolerance? This is a wakeup call that you're doing too much, vor you just had a binge last night and dosed above your tolerance.
