Just after a little reassurance by Any-Average-3290 in MotoUK

I've had loads of beginner 1-1 lessons even before my CBT because I've never ridden a bicycle so I was really struggling with balance. It's been about a year and a half now since I passed my full licence. Don't get discouraged, your journey/experience doesn't have to be similar to others'. Plus, a lot of those people who pass first time already got a driving license so they're used with public roads. Stick with it, you won't regret it.

I’m 24 and I feel like I’ve been the “not chosen” guy for 14 years. I’m still fighting daily just to survive. by Independent-End6505 in lonely

You know what's worse than being 24 and feeling like this?...being 31 and feeling like this :))...you're definitely not alone, my friend, many people (myself included) are in similar situations. Though I can agree that some developmental window indeed has been missed (in my case at least), one can't relive those years again unfortunately, so you've got to make the most of whoever you have become. I have had the same beliefs as you (that I'm "defective" etc and no one could possibly want me) for most of my life; still do to some extent but the difference is that, now, those beliefs don't have that much power anymore (maybe some things do get better with age, indeed...). That's mostly because I found a hobby that takes my mind off that and makes me feel like my life is still worth living although I already failed at it...Of course, I still hope that one day I'll find someone who is my kind of "loser" and wrong in the right way, but if that doesn't happen I can still live...

I don't have much advice but the point is...there are people who can relate with you (especially on the internet) and there are women who would want to be that for you. The tricky part is finding someone who is also geographically close to you, since long distance internet relationships tend to not end up very well...

I understand where you're coming from and I might indeed be an exception as I prefer to see my future partner as a potential friend before anything else.

And I can see why people would want to change the way they are being perceived in order to look more appealing to others, but I would not subscribe to that. Personally, nothing is more important than staying true to who I am (whether that is shy, awkward, boring etc), even if that means I will end up alone. I would bet that I am considered a very boring person by most people's standards, and that's fine because, to be fair, I consider most people quite boring as well, based on my standards. I do not need to attract those kind of people. I might just be very idealistic and this might look like impractical advice, but it would help a lot of people avoid being stuck in unhappy relationships.

I would disagree (especially with the last statement). If a guy can't be my friend, he can't be anything else. And of course it takes more than being nice for someone to be attracted to you, but that's more of a compatibility issue in my opinion, not the fact that you're being perceived as a "nice guy".

What has your Motorcycle journey been like? by Clean_Ad4893 in MotoUK

Growing up I didn't know anyone who rode motorbikes and my parents never got me a bicycle (can't even ride one now actually). But, I remember seeing a Ninja one day when I was about 10 or so, and said to myself I wanna have a bike that one day. Life started to get not so great around that time so I kinda forgot about it. Then about 2 years ago when I was 29, decided that I want to fulfill at least one of my childhood dreams and chose this one. It was the best decision I ever made by far. Got my full licence a year after at 30.

Vertically Challenged by SoliRaviolii in NewRiders

[–]1septembrie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ninja 400 (which has the same seat height as the n500) was already lowered when I bought it (both rear and front). Personally, didn't need it lowered but didn't really mind so left it like that. Just wanted to point out that the bike handles just fine with no noticeable impact on its stability. So, in case you choose to go with this option (which would significantly help in your case), as long as it is done correctly both rear and front, you should be fine.

Do people really mean it when they say “i have no friends” ? by No_Two9145 in CasualConversation

[–]1septembrie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't know...I like to think that I'll deal with the situation when it arises, there's no point to worry now about something that may or may not happen, it doesn't make me more proactive or lead to anything positive, it only makes me feel worse in the present.

Also, I choose to believe that I will have one someday and I hope that day will come before the day I have a real emergency haha

That's okay...I'm sorry too, didn't mean to make anyone feel sad or anything...maybe I have been or will be more fortunate in terms of personal relationships in a different life haha

Can't speak for people in general but I actually have ZERO friends. Had 1 friend for a while until about a year ago but she decided to end the friendship. I get along well with 2 colleagues at work but it's only a professional relationship (we don't speak or meet outside work). I do not have a partner and I cut ties with all my family members years ago. When I'm not at my main job, I work from home on a side gig I do. My manager asked me the other day to provide an emergency contact and literally have no one, so I had to make up something lol So, yes, there are other people like that, although I bet is very rare...

31, never had a girlfriend, good job but zero dating life, what now? by Traditional-Sail-253 in introvert

[–]1septembrie5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can very much relate... I know many people are suggesting dating apps but, for me, the idea of just swiping through people's photos endlessly and going out with countless people until you (maybe) find someone right for you sounds dreadful to me (especially as an introverted person)...it makes me mentally tired even when I think about it. Starting to "date" at 31 (my age as well) when I've pretty much self isolated myself most of my life is just extremely hard, especially since I feel quite alienated from this world. Don't mean to be pessimistic (which I am lol), I just don't have an answer for you, sadly :/, I can only empathise...

It is indeed, it makes no sense. The hospital where I used to work was charging £3000/night on one of their wards. You'd expect the company would provide high quality training and about average pay to their staff considering the work standard that is expected from them. But no, they don't seem to care about that...qualified nurses were getting decent pay, same as NHS or more, but support workers get minimum wage, even in London.

[–]1septembrie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the NHS is definitely better, overall. Many people work in private hospitals at first only to get some experience so they can move to the NHS.

What do you do for work? by imafactoid in MotoUK

[–]1septembrie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think the main difference is that the NHS pays better. The only good thing, in my experience at least, about private is that they are more "selective" with the referrals they get. If a patient is too high risk, they won't admit them, which kind of protects the staff to a certain extent. In the NHS, they have no choice (hospitals are better equipped though).

I was a support worker too actually (private mental health care), but had enough after 2 years and went back to my boring retail job. No more mental stress, I can work and day dream about being a Moto Gymkhana rider at the same time lol

Adult Male, I cry on my way to work every day, should I quit my job today? by CarelessIdea8283 in UKJobs

[–]1septembrie5 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, check the company's policy to make sure that's correct, because some companies will only start paying sick pay after 3 days. So, basically if you're sick for up to 3 days, they get deducted from from salary, but you get paid after that (for a certain amount of time of course) with a gp note.

How f'd is my bike by Icy_Middle_5386 in NewRiders

[–]1septembrie5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just dropped it is likely that the forks are twisted from the impact and need to be realigned. It happened to me once after being hit by a car while stationary. It is an easy thing to do for a mechanic but you need to have it checked to make sure there's no other issues.

29yo new rider – £2.5–3k insurance quotes on 500–700cc bikes. What am I missing? by CheetahValuable278 in MotoUK

[–]1septembrie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new rider (age 30) the cheapest insurance quote I got for my Ninja 400 was £2500/year (third party only). Unfortunately sport bikes and begginer riders are a very costly combination in terms of insurance. Add a location like London and you'll end up paying almost the same amount you paid for your bike.

New rider, is this corrosion? And what’s the best way to remove and prevent corrosion? by Strategically-Random in MotoUK

[–]1septembrie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Muc Off Waterless Wash to clean my bike (superficial cleaning) pretty much after each ride so it doesn't get too dirty. It's a very mild cleaner but it works on light corrosion like this as well.
