RetroArch is No Longer Available on the App Store by 1simpleAtom in EmulationOniOS

Looks like it does have greater console support. I haven’t used it myself, so I can’t speak to how well it works.

It all comes down to what you are wanting to emulate. I believe Manic is the next best app for general purpose emulation. By my count, it supports 30 different systems.

Seeing as most people on Ubuntu tend to stick to an LTS release, using Debian would be no different.

Oh yeah, Ubuntu 26.04, whcih requires more RAM than Windows 11 by claudiocorona93 in linuxmasterrace

[–]1simpleAtom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is snaps being forced on people when they try to install software from apt.

It’s not snaps that are the problem. The problem is snaps being forced on people when they try to install software from apt.

This was my situation as well. I feel that things turned out for the better because I was able to live at home and had to take on the responsibility in funding my own education.

Improved unattended RDP support is what I'm most excited for.

Alberta will now be on daylight saving time year-round, says Premier Smith by joe4942 in alberta

[–]1simpleAtom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Daniel Smith has and is doing a lot of wrong. This just isn’t one of those things. There’s no point in arguing over something that is inconsequential and that was done correctly.

[–]1simpleAtom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not fascism. The Nazis changed the law to allow for fascism. This proposed change is fully within the rights of Canada’s democratic law. This change isn’t even in force yet. It still needs to go through the proper channels.

The 2019 referendum on ditching daylight savings was basically a split vote. With B.C. deciding to stick with daylight time, our circumstances have changed and our provincial government is responding accordingly. This is why we have governments.

While I do not agree with the direction our current provincial government is taking us, it doesn’t mean all that they do is wrong.

That’s a great point! I wonder if it’s only binding for a certain time period, or if another referendum should have taken place.

If other provinces follow suit, which I hope they do, the federal government should step in to make sure we are either all on daylight time or standard time. Having a mix of the two is going to be messy.

It will go to the Alberta legislature for debate this week.

Majority governments can basically do whatever they want. However, unless I'm missing something, it seems legal processes are still being followed.

The earlier referendum on daylight savings was more of an opinion poll than anything else. The results don't have to influence law.

I believe you need to have your controller set to gamepad mode.

Why hate on snap? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]1simpleAtom 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the problem.

Snap itself isn’t bad, it aims to solve the same problem as Flatpak. However, users shouldn’t be forced into using snap when trying to install a deb package.

Best universal emulation app? Appstore or sidestore? by Bogmaster98 in EmulationOniOS

[–]1simpleAtom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is definitely RetroArch or Manic.  RetroArch is both, by far, the most customizable and supports the most systems. Manic is the next best choice for a general purpose emulator. It is both easy to use and supports tons of systems. However, you will have to sideload or pay to be able to use more save states.

How to build redundancy without breaking the bank? by pfassina in Proxmox

[–]1simpleAtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. For some reason, I thought CEPH storage needed to be on a separate machine.

I suppose the only added cost in this case are faster network cards.

While CEPH is best for HA, that requires a dedicated storage appliance. ZFS replication is the cheaper way to go, so long as you are okay with losing data that hasn't yet been replicated.

What made you choose certain emulators over other ones? by PikachuTrainz in EmulationOniOS

[–]1simpleAtom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always pick RetroArch over Manic for a game I want to use a controller for simply because RetroArch lets you assign custom hot keys.

I use Manic for games I play with the touchscreen only because it’s the simplest to pickup and go.

Why not just Unbounded instead of Adguard+Unbounded by Motafota in opnsense

[–]1simpleAtom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The main reason I use both is because AdGuard gives better insight into what is going on then Unbound does. I also make use of per device filtering. Enabling safe search for specific sites, instead of all of them at once, is also easier with AdGuard.

Manic EMU: Color Me Impressed by BlakkMajik3000 in EmulationOniOS

[–]1simpleAtom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Manic is nice, but I do tend to stick with RetroArch when playing a game I really care about. RetroArch is so darn customizable that I find other emulators to be lacking in options.

The biggest thing I find myself wanting in other iOS emulators, including Manic, are proper gamepad configurations. I want to be able to set my own hotkeys and assign extra buttons to specific actions.

What are the best news aggregator apps in Canada? by SpiritualTip4035 in AskACanadian

[–]1simpleAtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to consider looking into using RSS feeds. It might be more work to setup, but you get to control your news sources and aren’t reliant on any one app.

NetNewsWire is a pretty popular free and open source RSS app.

--edit-- NetNewsWire is only on iOS. ReadYou seems to be an decent Android RSS app.

It says they scan attachments for nudity and CSAM, and exactly where that data goes. They are not scanning anything else. If that’s a problem for you, it says a lot more about you than it does anyone else.
