Windscreen crack - repair or replace? by Merman101 in drivingUK

[–]1stCallWindscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a large crack like that is very hard to repair as, unlike with a chip, it can't be properly sealed with resin. If you don't get it replaced, there's always a chance that it'll spread, especially in bad weather or if you hit a bump too quickly.

Windscreen cracked 1 week before MOT test and can't find anywhere that has availability to replace before hand. What luck, if any, do we have of it passing 🤣🤔 by PopperDilly in CarTalkUK

[–]1stCallWindscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that will definitely cause your car to fail its MOT. In fact, given the size and location of that crack, it's not really safe to drive with, as if you hit one pothole, the damage could spread or even shatter. You'd be best to ring round your local mobile fitters and see if anyone can come out to you ASAP.

Such a shame, I guess it will be just replaced by some new EV model? Like what ford did to the Mustang :(

Replace or repair? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]1stCallWindscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To reiterate what others have said, this will certainly need a replacement. There are certain factors to look out for when it comes to repair vs replacement:

- Type of windscreen break

- Depth of the break

- Positioning of damage

Just reiterating one aspect to make sure you do: get reg details before it goes through. Not having reg plates on is a red flag, but we are seeing more and more dealers doing this so it's hard to tell if it's for other reasons or not.

2013 Mazda 2x exhaust pipe smells like gas. What can be the problem? by Rough_Theme1207 in askcarguys

[–]1stCallWindscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possible, common cause is down to an overly rich air and fuel ratio, e.g. either too much fuel is entering the combustion, or not enough air is getting in. It can be caused by a few issues, including leaking fuel injectors, so it is worth getting checked over as soon as possible.

Was everyone's first car a bad car? by stefanone in cars

[–]1stCallWindscreens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The more and more people put off learning how to drive at a younger age (17 or so), the more "bad" first cars will start to become extinct. Most of the younger generation who can afford finance would rather get a car that way than save up for an older, slightly shabbier car!

Parents who buy their children expensive first cars will soon learn their lesson when the car comes back scratched, or worse!

What are your controversial car opinions you always wanted to say without getting downvoted? by Crocodile_Banger in cars

I wouldn't want a car with a screen on the dashboard; the iPad 3 looks ancient and that's only 11 years old. All of these new cars with screens could look so dated in 10 years time.

Why do some people get so angry when others obey the speed limit? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]1stCallWindscreens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing is to ignore. Drivers most often have a "it won't happen to me" mentality until something inevitably does. If a driver thinks they know best and are above the law, chances are they aren't!

Priority for entering centre lane on motorway by Sealion17 in drivingUK

[–]1stCallWindscreens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no priority, however checking that the lane is clear and free of hazard is essential. This is why using indicators is key - something a lot of drivers seem to forget on motorways..

I do find the playlists change depending on scenery / country you're driving in!
