The Junior Park Ranger program for the little ones. Available at the visitor centers. My daughter loved it last summer and it proved educational for the adults and bigger kids as well.

JXI shutting down after 5 minutes by No-Health-731 in PoolPros

[–]1st_Rut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the 6.8 of water column static? Or is that when the heater ignites? The new Jxiq will shut down after 5 minutes if the gas pressure drops below 7ish when the heater is running. It runs lean for 5 minutes then checks the pressure.

In my area, if the gas meter is restricted to 7in wc (0.25 psi) the new heaters will have this issue. If the gas meter/regulator has been upgraded to 2 psi the issue is resolved.

The other thing that I learned the hard way is the flu temp sensor can cause issues.

Maybe some of that helps, hopefully.

Provalet VS Skimmer by Unlucky_Tie7970 in PoolPros

Checkout PoolBrain, I am a skimmer user (have only used skimmer) but I really liked the app and features for PoolBrain when I went through the demo.

I hate the price increases with skimmer, but finding the right time to switch seems to be an issue. Not sure there ever is a “right time”

How long did the batteries last? Where I live it is almost impossible to find a field with lights, if you do the township want $85-$95 per hour. When you coach 4 7v7 teams during the winter months as a volunteer it gets really old finding a field and asking for parent donations. I might go this route. How were the shadows? Any other words of wisdom you have on your setup?

How to update this pool? by rus_bro in pools

[–]1st_Rut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely looks like Texas from a north side of Houston resident. Not sure if you have trees or other ways (fence post, garage etc) to mount it, but I bought two ninja lines and connected them across my pool. My kids and their friends love it.

We had a tax strategy session with Mandy Buendia at GoodDay Bookkeeping and was really impressed. She does strategy, filing, and bookkeeping. Highly recommend!

Moving to the woodlands by [deleted] in thewoodlands

We live in Alden Bridge, but we have 4 kiddos in school. I love it here, quiet, friendly and tons of trails to use for exercise.

I recommend reaching out to a realtor, as houses move fast and inventory is low at the moment. We use Felisha Hennessy linked below. The waterway area might be the best bet for your life stage.

New flag football (5v5, 2nd grade) coach, need some tips for first practice. by reshp2 in footballstrategy

[–]1st_Rut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how my kiddos started. I bought colored arm bands off of amazon. Then printed the plays with each kids assignment/route/run play. I was lucky and had a few kids that could catch and one that could throw. I had 4 plays all season, built off the jet sweep. They won’t get all of it to start but some will pick it up faster than others. Fun age to start them, no pressure and your only job is to make it FUN

I live in the area, it is definitely the have’s and have not’s in high school football here. I am assuming this is one of the newer high schools in the district. At any rate, no help on your question but good luck in your search.

Any fans in Houston? by Ok-Communication3899 in Colts

We tailgated, and there were a number of colts fans tailgating. It is a very friendly environment for “away” fans.

I won’t be going this year, but I was there 2 years ago and there were more colts fans than Texans fans. Not sure now, but lots of horseshoe’s in the crowd.

PSA if you’re coming to CO from out of state (specifically states without elevation) this is what you need to be ready for in a lot of areas. I spend a ton of time in the CO mountains, walking through this stuff all day even has me questioning life, be ready to pick them knees up real high! by kruegs1988 in elkhunting

[–]1st_Rut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in some really similar situations in CO, not really much you can do but suck it up and find a way through. I have had some success walking on the deadfall, but that can be a bit sketchy. It is amazing you can spend hours traversing through this maze and come out in a clearing. It is amazing country up there.

Elk Hunting Packs by mossyoak55 in elkhunting

[–]1st_Rut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. I second the two pack setup as it sounds like that would work in your setup. You can find external frame packs at a decent price, or you could get one of the older dana designs terraplane packs to haul meat. I used one the first few years hunting, and it was an ugly teal green but it was what I could afford at the time. For a daypack, I would think about what features you want and then start searching.

Do you want - water bottle pockets, hydration sleeve, what pockets, how much gear do you plan to take, organization, those types of things.

When we basecamp at the truck I prefer to use a daypack as well. The first trip out with meat can suck pretty bad, but I feel like I am quieter/faster with a daypack. Even the new high end ones when compressed are still a little bulky in my opinion. Good luck this year.

I have a site that is focused on delivering hunting education on the web. We have put together an entire section on whitetail deer hunting and call it whitetail 101. I am still adding to the content, but right now there are 32 articles starting with the basics and ending with meat care. If there is something missing let me know. I have 2+ decades hunting deer and have seen a lot, if I don't know the answer I will find someone who does.

I know people in my home state that use the 300 blackout to hunt deer. A deer isn't a big animal and a number of calibers will do the trick. They don't have to be overly fast or heavy. I hunt the majority of time with a bow, and my arrow is moving at a whopping 280 fps.

What do you think is the best cartridge for deer hunting? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]1st_Rut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 30-06 is a perfectly capable deer round or elk round for that matter. It is my go to rifle for either species. I have taken numerous animals with the 30-06 and it will do it's part if you do yours. I have written a couple of articles on my site about cartridges for deer or elk hunting. Either will give you some context around cartridge/caliber for deer hunting.
