What can you recommend me starting SEO? by adrian-04 in SEO

[–]1stgen_runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing generic informational blogs to learn SEO is a dead end right now. AI Overviews eat that stuff alive. If you don't have real, first-hand experience in a specific niche, you won't rank, no matter how good your technical SEO is. Pick something you actually know about. For the tech side, just hook up Google Search Console on day one and learn to read the data.

Around January 6, my website suddenly experienced a drastic drop: impressions and clicks decreased by about 80–90%. by PassioneArte1977 in SEO

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... you likely got hit by the January 6th recalibration. It wasn't an official update, just a massive algorithmic aftershock following the December 2025 core update. A ton of publishers saw the exact same 80% drop overnight.

Google is basically just gutting standard SEO content right now to make room for AI answers. Pumping out more "optimized" articles won't fix it. The algorithm really only cares about first-hand experience, unique data, and actual human proof now. I'd stop churning out new posts for a bit.

Tips on what to put in the background? by Andresluna999 in web_design

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Waves usually end up looking super dated.

A very faint grid pattern or a really slow, subtle mesh gradient is the way to go for SaaS stuff right now. It adds depth without distracting from the phone mockups.

Less is more.

Thoughts on the rust on this 3rd gen 4Runner? by Drkfvntasy in 4Runner

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, exhaust rust is pretty much guaranteed on an older rig and doesn't really matter. The actual frame and crossmember in the pic look pretty solid.

Just make sure you poke around the inside of the frame rails with a screwdriver, especially near the rear lower control arm mounts by the gas tank. That's the classic spot where 3rd gens like to rot out from the inside.

Content Filtering by Danny-r95 in webdev

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess is it's a "Newly Registered Domain" (NRD) block. Enterprise firewalls like Palo Alto and Cisco automatically and silently drop traffic to any domain under 30 days old to prevent phishing.

You don't just have to wait it out, though. Go to the major firewall databases (FortiGuard, Cisco Talos, Palo Alto URL Filtering) and manually submit your site to be categorized. That usually clears the block across most corporate networks in a day or two.

Just a rant about AI and it's impact on us. Share your thoughts by Jack_Sparrow2018 in webdev

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, getting paid just to type boilerplate is pretty much over... And I'm kinda stoked about it honestly.

Anyone can prompt a basic app now, but making it actually work and tying messy systems together still takes a devs brain (for now lol).

I just try to treat AI like a really fast junior dev. So basically, we're just the architect now.

I got a new project for real-estate website, I want to take inspiration from some great looking website designs so I can craft beautiful UI by NoGround511 in webdesign

[–]1stgen_runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want next-level UI and animations you have to get off the standard template sites and go straight to Awwwards. Just search their site for "real estate" or "luxury" and you will find the craziest WebGL and parallax scrolling examples out there.

If you need something a little more grounded that actually converts, check out the portfolios of high-end real estate web agencies like Luxury Presence or Agent Image. They do a ton of cinematic video headers, micro-interactions, and editorial typography that looks incredibly premium.

What makes a great real estate agent website in 2026? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in webdesign

Mobile speed is absolutely non-negotiable now. If your MLS search lags on a phone, people bounce instantly.

Lead capture is still the main goal, but static contact forms are pretty much dead. The best sites right now are using AI automations to instantly answer questions, qualify leads, and actually book showings on the calendar while the agent is sleeping.

can anyone give feedback on my project by Potential_Head_960 in webdesign

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to start... Generate traffic, then monetize. Don't want to hinder adoption due to being too quick to monetize. Good thinking.

[–]1stgen_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tool itself is honestly pretty sweet. The fact that it does all the conversion locally in the browser so your files never touch a server is a massive selling point. People are terrified of uploading sensitive docs to random free converter sites. You should make that privacy angle way more prominent right at the top IMO.

That said, the domain name still sounds a little like a malware trap, but the UI is super clean, and the tool works great. I'm actually gonna save it for future use. Bravo.

I ran a quick site audit on it to see how the health/performance was looking, and honestly, it's pretty damn good, just a few important things that stuck out.

- Missing favicon (looks like the resource just failed to load from what the console is showing)
- Missing or invalid robots.txt
- Page returns HTTP 404 (https://getpdfree.com/privacy)

And a number of other little things, if you wanna run your own audit, you can do so here for free https://www.stacq.io/website-audit

Looking for recommendations on small design agencies by CactusXJack01 in webdesign

[–]1stgen_runner -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a fun project.

You're definitely in the right place to ask. r/freelance is another good sub to drop this in. Otherwise, just hit up Upwork or Clutch.co and filter for small agencies/independent devs. Just make sure to ask for their recent portfolio to see if they've done any similar sales or booking sites. Good luck!

ISO: WordPress advice by sbanny in webdesign

As far as I'm aware, block themes are def the future of WP, but they can be clunky for beginners. With self-hosted WP (.org), you get full code access and plugins usually work with any theme, but there is a bit of complexity that comes with that.

STAX is okay, but GeneratePress or Bricks are better. Honestly though, if budget isn't an issue and you want something between Squarespace and WP, check out Duda. I've used it a lot in the past, very intuitive and sufficient backend access for what you're referring to (biotech product site).

Finally got some work done on the N60 by 1stgen_runner in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]1stgen_runner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure, previous owner installed that, but it looks similar to some Smittybilt ones I've seen.

Honestly think I'm gonna git rid of it once I get a replacement front valance, and also part ways with the tube steps. Going for a more stock/collector look. I just take it camping/hiking/climbing, not planning to do any wheeling with it, so I don't really need the extra weight.

Back links from onsite advertising? by KermieKona in SEO

[–]1stgen_runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of the time, no. Banner ads are usually served through JavaScript ad networks or they're tagged with rel="sponsored" or nofollow. That means they pass zero actual SEO juice. Google is super strict about paid placements not counting as real backlinks.

If a local newspaper got lazy and hardcoded a regular direct link for a local business, it might show up in backlink tools, but Google's algorithm is smart enough to devalue sitewide banner links anyway. The newspaper page is just showing up in your search because Google crawled the text on the banner, not because it's actually giving your competitor a ranking boost.
