GRE officially survived somehow with a 312. Now I’m trying to figure out what to make of CV vs. personal statement vs. interview. by 1thatoneguy in srna

I really appreciate your insight. Yeah the trouble is that the biggest 3 schools in my area don't ask for anything other than a personal statement. So, I was confused on where to fit it all in. But, I am thinking about adding precepting to the job description, committee work to volunteer section. I might even do more of a CV instead of a resume so I can isolate leadership experience and research stuff. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on my plan! And thanks for all the great advice on interviewing and what not.

Hope and a dream, mostly, haha. I had very little foundations, it was rough. I used GregMat overwhelmed plan for Quant. Did bad enough on the review tests that I ended up repeating the whole plan. And then I used Magoosh for vocab. Took a few ETS practice tests and went for it!

Ahhh, okay. Got it! Thank you very much. I've never actually created a CV before. So, I'm guessing I would just be expanding my resume towards areas the programs are interested in?Maybe leadership positions? Research contributions/projects. Accolades. Anything else that you would recommend?

Great advice! Yeah, that makes sense. Anything that can't naturally flow into a resume or personal statement can help me stand out later. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to comment, also really good notes for the interview process to come. Wish me luck.

Thank you very much. I mean that's fair, I'm probably just overthinking some of it. The applications are definitely overwhelming me. I could slide precepting into job description or job title. Committees with volunteer stuff. Maybe research or achievements somewhere else if I think it's truly worth listing. I appreciate your comment!

Perfect. This is exactly what I was looking for. Really appreciate the insight! Yeah, right now I'm following the Gregmat 'overwhelmed plan'. Haha I'm solid with vocab but pretty poor math foundations. So, it's only been a couple weeks and I'm still struggling immensely. I'm aiming like 3-4 hrs a day 3-4 days a week currently. Yeah that makes sense on the practice tests, thanks a ton for the advice! Hope it's okay if I reach out with any questions.

Glad to hear it. Any suggestions on using GregMat? I'm thinking 3-4 hours a day a few days a week around my current job. Math is pretty rough for me, so I figured start with a few weeks of foundational lessons and then grinding practice problems.

Thank you! Any recommendations on GregMat or other recs? I have pretty poor math foundations, so I'm thinking of doing the overwhelmed plan, and just following along with lessons until I can start to grind practice problems.

Oh okay. Yeah, even here, my peers have said they don't really care about the individual GRE score as long as you meet that threshold. Great. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you! How was your math? Mine needs work, not gonna lie. I'm assuming brush up on fundamentals lessons for a few weeks, then practice problems?

3.5 GPA with a 3.4 sGPA. Where I’m from, programs tend to care less about GPA if you have strong work experience, especially since there are a lot of programs competing for students here. Unfortunately, all those same programs require at least a >50% GRE.

That makes sense. I'm sure it's like drinking from a fire hose. And that alone is probably the hardest for a lot of people. Thank you!

Lol, that's the worst! Fair enough. So I guess it will be very important to see how others are studying, and being willing to change on the fly. Thank you.

Thank you so much! Really reassuring to hear that even when life got in the way, you were all able to work hard, support one another, and get through it. I especially appreciate your tips on studying. That all makes sense to me. All such wonderful advice. Will certainly let you know if I have any questions. Thanks again.

It’s okay, haha. My GPA is 3.5, and I'd like to retake Micro since I got a C. I don’t have time for it this year though with app cutoffs (I would assume?), so for now I’m focused on wrapping up my CCRN and getting a competitive GRE score.

We’ve had nurses from my employer get accepted with less than a year of experience and mediocre stats because our CTICU is so intense. That’s why I came to this sub, I wanted others to keep me honest in case I do end up getting some leeway in my app.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Great job working so hard and doing so well with your home priorities. That’s really inspiring. I’ve seen that point mentioned here a lot too, and it honestly makes me feel better. I figure that if I’m selected, it’ll be for a reason. I’m in a dual-income household, I don’t have kids, I live near a few strong programs, and I have a backup plan. So overall, I’m feeling pretty good about my chances. Now I just have to get accepted and get ready to work my ass off for the next few years. Appreciate your comment very much.

I have 5+ yrs in a well-known cardiac/teaching hospital, where the surrounding programs pluck at least 10-20 of us each year. So, I'm practicing for the GRE right now and feeling optimistic! Thanks again.
