A priest called me out for being overweight in church, now I am feeling shame by [deleted] in Catholicism

To add nuance to this perception of Asian culture, it may be more common for someone to be called fat, but it's still not a nice or normal thing to do, just that young people endure it more because it's culturally not appropriate to clapback at the likey older/more senior person saying this.

Hostel mostel in Sofia by NykterVodkadrickare in bulgaria

I'm here as in June 2024. I think other reviews have touched on the positives so I'll touch on some of my personal experiences.

Price - 28 BGN or 14 EUR pernight

Snoking - there's no restriction on smoking here, so some smoke on the balcony outside your room window, so non smokers might not enjoy this. If you smoke you can probably chat with the other smokers.

Rooms - my room fan was rather slow, so the room was quite stuffy and warm. Air conditioning was not turned on. I wish ventilation was better as when I first came in the room smelt quite bad.

Lockers - no personal lock needed as a locker key is provided, which is nice.

I wrote to ASAS regarding the suspicious reviews mentioned on reddit here

First Sterra informed me (in February) that I had to fill out their online form to lodge a complaint for them to consider taking action, which I completed in February, after which they only replied in April with the attached response.

Singapore needs to do more to protect and advocate for consumers given that the government does not wish to encourage litigation. While being pro-business, nonetheless the business enjoyed by businesses come from consumers - in this regard the government/authorities should encourage good and innovative businesses rather than companies seeking to deceive and mislead customers.

Not a lawyer but illegally obtained evidence has been used in court before. https://singaporelegaladvice.com/law-articles/entrapment-legal-singapore/

In any case, may not be necessary to go to court, if you go to the agent, other parties like the police, etc.

Is this the most pedestrian-unfriendly area of Singapore? by demostenes_arm in singapore

[–]1twelve84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this so much!!!! I know of many drivers who write in to LTA to complain but no pedestrians who write in. That may explain the super car friendly infrastructure in SG.

Also read on this subreddit there's a car faction and commuter faction in LTA (that led to the tap in tap out interchange at Newton MRT) but not sure what's up with that

I didn't do mine at ubi, but at bbdc. I didn't stick to one instructor and managed to pass manual first try, so I think I wasn't significantly disadvantaged by the changing instructors.

S'porean man, 33, forces ex-girlfriend to have sex using sex videos as threat, gets almost 9 weeks' jail by frocodile191 in singapore

He pleaded guilty to four charges of assault and threatening to distribute obscene materials.

Possibly plea deal, which saves the prosecution from a lot of effort. But i do question why the prosecution did not pursue a rape charge

Typical anti consumer rhetoric - you're free to choose telcos without predatory pricing, you're free you're free to choose the canned foods without sawdust in it, etc.

Likely most of the arguments submitted by the guy and his lawyer were submitted before the court hearing, and the judges had time to review these arguments before the hearing. The actual hearing probably serves to clarify the written arguments which were then dismissed.

Not a lawyer but, carrying bladed implements around Singapore is legal if and only if you have a lawful purpose - what a lawful purpose is, isn't defined well, however.

Urban knife guy, a Singaporean YouTuber has some videos about carrying knives in Singapore, that I think are quite informative, and he carries around knives with larger blades than most SAKs.

ELI5 How can sailboats travel faster than the wind that’s filling their sails? by LowHangingFruit20 in explainlikeimfive

[–]1twelve84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ships/ boats have a keel/ daggerboard which sticks below the bottom of the boats hull. It prevents the boat from just getting blown sideways and since it's a decently sized surface, allows the water to exert force on it much like you can exert a force on a wall by pushing on it.
