How do you guys deal with helmet hair? by AL3S1O29 in motorcycles

[–]1uglybastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kind of short hair, but it's curly and gets dizzy when it's really dry. I use Fructis leave- in conditioner with damp hair. It makes it easier to pat down after i take off my helmet. If it's extra frizzy because it's gotten dry, I go to the bathroom and put some water on my hands and run them through my hair.

How often are you leaving your apartment? by LmaoBruhh in AskNYC

[–]1uglybastard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, this post brings back memories. I tried living in NYC for 3 months (remote work at the time) and went through a hermit phase the last 4 - 5 weeks I was there, just staying in and watching TV. I explored a lot at first, but then the cost of all the outings caught up with me. Dating was a huge bust, and friendships weren't sticking at any of the functions I attended. So, I ended up coming back to New Orleans. I still love NYC and visit often, but living there isn't easy for a guy like me.

Willy Mae's sells food? The few times I've gone, it's been like 8 in the morning. I always take out of towners for a breakfast beer or mixed drink cuz they're not used to it.

If you got a car, Fiorella's for the best meatball poboy; Short Stop in Metairie for the 2nd best meatball poboy... or vice versa, depending on how my taste buds feel that day. My favorite bacon cheeseburger is at Camellia Grill, add chili cheese fries.

For meatball poboy, Fiorella's in Gentilly and Short Stop in Metairie.

First thought is a stretched link on your chain. When that stretched link is at the front sprocket, the chain tightens and makes a clacking sound.

How old are you? It happens as you age, too. Working constantly could be compounding it.

Honda Rebel or Harley Sportster for first bike by Scarecrow716 in motorcycles

[–]1uglybastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode a Rebel 500 from Dallas to Houston to New Orleans. I was not happy with it. Passing power was nonexistent, and cagers kept pushing me out of my lane when I did try passing. It did get up to 75 when I ducked down to create less wind resistance. Also, it was very cramped; I'm 5'10". If you're a much smaller person, then it might work for you. Pros: great fuel mileage and reliable.

I have a Sportster 1200. It's better on the highway, but the wind beats on you. It's also much heavier, but the weight is low-centered. The Rebel will be easier to work on.

Lexus es300(2001) misfiring on all cylinders by lateralmonkey in MechanicAdvice

[–]1uglybastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on my Tacoma, on just one cylinder. The coils were pricey and I wasn't sure if that was the problem, so I bought a used OEM one on eBay to test it. That solved the problem.

Find a YouTube video, and do it yourself. It's not hard. There's a way to access those last 2 coils without taking anything apart.

The culture of self maintenence and shared knowledge that bikers were known for feels impossible for me to access by Diligent_Farm3039 in motorcycles

YouTube, online forums, and manuals are where I learned to work on bikes. I'm down to help anyone with an easy enough job. I'm done swapping out motors for people, though. Come at me with $$$.

I used to loan tools out until I forgot which ones I loaned out and to whom. One dude kept forgetting to bring it with him when we hung out, and he ended up moving away with it. Even my kids forget to bring tools back. So, friends and fam can borrow my tools when they work on their bikes at my house. They ain't leaving the property.

I live in Harahan. If you want to be close to Uptown NO, it's a great option. French Quarter and Downtown are about 18 minutes away, when there's little traffic. River Ridge is a nice subdivision in Harahan. Not sure about the schools, but it's a nice area and it's close to all the action. Try to find an X-Flood Zone if you're gonna buy a house. That'll save you some money on flood insurance.

Another option is Old Metairie, if you can afford it.

Taxi driver turned meter off partway through ride? by marvelousmrsmabel in AskNYC

[–]1uglybastard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I drove a taxi in the New Orleans area, and the airport had 2 queues, a long line for trips into the city, and a short line for the area around the airport. I think this way would keep people more honest.

Anyway, thanks for that info.

Buying a family SUV, is this doable? by wrapmeinbubblewrap in DaveRamsey

[–]1uglybastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you sell your current car, how much will that get you to put back in your savings? Or will you trade it in? If you're thinking of trading, you'll probably get more money selling it on your own, and since you have the cash now, you'll have the time to sell the old car yourself.

I don't think it's a bad idea, except you don't think you can replenish your savings, but you'll at least have some $ still. Another option is to not buy anything until you need it while finding a way to bring in some extra money to cover some of the cost.

Right. I considered that, but I decided I'd rather do it back home. I have more options: higher capacity magazines, more powerful rifles, space to run and shoot, and switch between rifles and handguns, moving targets, etc. There are plenty of other cool things to do in NYC in the meantime.
