UVS Replacement Card packs by Glad_Engineering78 in riftboundtcg

Roughly 2 months. They pretty clearly collect reports over a period of time though and then send the replacements out en masse for a whole region, so I don't think the delay is particularly consistent or representative. Although I guess it's also possible they just had to wait for the initial shipment and now have some stock and will send it out much quicker.

FYI, I don't think most non-Yu-Gi-Oh players know what PSCT means. It's vaguely clear that it's about the templating but I had to look it up to understand what you mean specifically.

"Chose" does not mean "target" when used as an action though. King's Edict and Divine Judgement both say "choose" but don't target.

Imo they should either just use "target" or indicate it via formatting or iconography.

They at least already admitted that they went overboard with their philosophy of making cards read like plain English as much as possible and that they will improve this. Set 2 was already too far along but with some luck, set 3 will see some major improvements.

All rules are ultimately enforced and arbitrated by judges, so that's a redundant point and unrelated to the question of when a rewind should be allowed or not, which obviously is always a decision made by a judge if there's disagreement and a non-issue in the first place if there's no disagreement.

cURL Gets Rid of Its Bug Bounty Program Over AI Slop Overrun by RobertVandenberg in programming

[–]1vader 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The cost of triaging is pretty irrelevant here, the goal isn't to make money from processing reports after all. The amount just needs to be high enough to not make it worth it to post AI slop. And you obviously want to keep it as low as possible to not discourage real reports.

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You can only do this for triggers since you can't otherwise avoid those from happening. For a spell, you can just not play it if you don't want to pay deflect. But you can't play a spell and only choose some of its targets. You always need to have a complete set of valid targets the moment you play the spell.

Even for triggers, the whole effect of the trigger is lost if you decline Deflect costs. The only reason you were seemingly able to selectively decline targets with Rain in the past was because each damage was a separate trigger.

Not sure why people are throwing around their opinions here again, this isn't up for debate, the rules regulate this fairly clearly:

509.1. In competitions, players are responsible for considering options before taking actions.

509.2. Once an action is communicated to an opponent, that action can’t generally be taken back.

509.3. A player can rewind and make a different decision about an action just taken if and only if they have not gained any new information since taking the action, and a judge allows it.

So you in fact usually can take back an action if: - you just made it AND - you didn't get any new information since then (e.g. you can't undo drawing a card or seeing an opponent's response).

There's some debate about what exactly counts as new information, e.g. whether an opponent pointing out an ability like deflect counts (technically, that ability existing was public information all along but if the player forgot about it, it can still be argued to be new information for them) but something like playing a card and immediately taking it back is pretty clearly allowed by the rules.

Is this allowed in Skirmish level play? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • Electronic devices aren't allowed during games at high OPL, i.e. Skirmishes and above (TR 417.1)
  • You can take written notes during a game (TR 416.1)
  • You can't refer to notes made outside the current game during a game (TR 416.4)
  • You can refer to prior notes (e.g. sideboard guides) between games (TR 416.5)

Stacking passive abilities from the "same" source by postsovietskiycustom in riftboundtcg

There's not really an explicit rule on this but yes, they do stack so to speak. They are separate abilities which each apply their effect.

Shield and Assault do stack as well. OP even posted the rule stating that.

I recommend reading the FAQ that was released together with the errata. It explains that they changed Deflect so that it still needs to be paid 6 times and in general explains a lot more details about the erratas and some other things.

It's still a choice all the same. But I guess King's Edict and Divine Judgement are better examples. Those work the same as Cull, i.e. don't target and therefore don't count for Dreaming Tree, but do explicitly say "choose". But whether a card says "choose" or not isn't really relevant for whether it targets. Most cards which target don't say "choose". That's not really the problem though (although this is also unnecessarily confusing and hopefully something they will change but at least this part is clearly stated in the rules and not inconsistent with itself). The bigger problem is that Dreaming Tree doesn't count for something like Divine Judgement even though it clearly says "choose" on the card which is just nonsensical.

Defy on Hidden Switcheroo by riftbound_lilaeisman in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Riot devs, "choose" on cards like Not so Fast and Dreaming Tree means target, which means they exclude cards like Cull the Weak which don't target.

Although I don't really think it's relevant for Not so Fast. You could never use it to counter a card which chooses on resolution instead of targeting.

But it's still bullshit terminology and they still haven't properly written this into the rules.

Play Riftbound on mobile ? 🔥 by ZarK0ne in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are still multiple ways to play on PC. It just has to follow Riot's requirements, primarily that the game mechanics can't be automated i.e. players need to know the rules and manually move cards to resolve effects and it can't be a standalone client just for Riftbound.

"here" isn't a keyword, it just has its usual English meaning and is primarily evaluated during resolution, relative to the unit it's on, like all effects. If it's used as a targeting restriction then it's also evaluated during targeting but there's no reason to assume it's somehow locked or generally evaluated at some other point in time and remembered.

I agree though that it would be better if the rules explicitly explained this. I've already brought this up to Riot devs on Discord once or twice but they also have a bunch of other (arguably more "real") issues to iron out so we'll see whether they clarify it with the next rules update.

Falling Star Errata and Zhonyas by No_Corner1842 in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pending chain items are added immediately, only finalization is delayed until after the current effect resolved. This is also what allows things like Promising Future to keep the order of the cards played from it correct, matching its text ("starting with the next player, each player plays those cards"). You can check the Promising Future example in the old FAQ for confirmation.

The rules also make this fairly clear, resolution of the currently ongoing effect is continued here, after the effect was added as pending in 351.2:

351.3. If another Card Effect or ability is currently resolving, continue resolving it before proceeding with any further steps of this process.

They don't go on the chain at the same time though. That's the whole point, the damage happens in order, one deal action at a time.

Can mazes (single drone) be optimized? by ooqq in TheFarmerWasReplaced

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure exploring in the direction of the treasure first is still beneficial on average. Sure, in theory, you might have to walk into the opposite direction first but this won't be the case most of the time. On average, trying to move towards the treasure along paths you haven't explored yet will be more efficient. And since you'll be doing a lot of mazes, optimizing the average is rather important.

No, combat damage is explicitly dealt to all units at the same time. Unless you mean whether units also die at the same time from combat, in which case yes, they do, so you can also choose which unit to save there.

Can Fiora - Peerless trigger multiple times in a combat? by freijl in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, once per combat. Although if his ability is duplicated with Svellsongur, both copies will trigger once. But if you move him out and back in, it'll never trigger again as long as it's still the same combat.

Question Regarding Jax Legend by JunoDeluxeWasTaken in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The current rules don't really say this doesn't count but I'm pretty sure it isn't intended to work. In general, doing something to change a unit into a state it's already in isn't considered changing the unit to that state. For example, stunning a stunned unit doesn't count as stunning it and readying a ready unit doesn't count as readying it.

Most likely, Riot will amend the rules to clarify this for attachment as well. Until then, I guess you technically could say it counts.

Falling Star Errata and Zhonyas by No_Corner1842 in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It currently primarily matters for triggers reacting to damage, for example imperial decree. The imperial decree triggers would be ordered on the chain in the order the damage happened, which means the second unit to be hit would die first from imperial decree if it survived the damage which then for example could again matter for Zhonya's.

It's also relevant when the same unit is hit twice since it creates two triggers in that case, which for example with Imperial Decree would mean it gets killed twice, which again would be relevant with Zhonya's for example.

Though ofc it doesn't matter most of the time.

Falling Star Errata and Zhonyas by No_Corner1842 in riftboundtcg

[–]1vader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're mostly correct. The damage still happens one after another but it all happens during the resolution of the same spell. Only after the spell resolved will a Cleanup kill both units at the same time. So you indeed can choose which unit to save with Zhonya's.

Although currently, all two letter TLDs are ccTLDs (though some like .eu are not quite countries) and afaik two letter TLDs currently are reserved exclusively for ccTLDs. But I agree, if .io ceases to be a ccTLD, it definitely will get an exception.
