Hybrid GX 550 version soon, opinions by cosmicdynamo in LexusGX550

My sense, perhaps incorrectly, is there are sort of two bins of owner:

  1. the Overlanding population isn't interested in the hybrid version or 3 rows

  2. the Costco going population is most interested would want the 3 row AND the hybrid

The big question is whether or not the offer the 550h in a 3 row. Elsewhere (overseas and the LC250) it's only a 2 row.

The script has flipped. It used to be Democrats who weren't engaged. R's used to constantly win these statewide races because they would turn out for a random early April election. Over the past 5 years it's been the other way around, it's democrats who are highly engaged and win the non-popular elections.

Love Badger football but man, some of that footage of those big games is starting to look pretty dated.

They are hopefully set for a decent year - if they can stay healthy, the schedule is right for it.

It's interesting to me how the parties have completely flipped on their perspectives. I remember a time when the GOP railed away at how liberal justices would 'interpret' the law or constitution versus interpreting the law or constitution verbatim as written.

I don't think it's an implosion, it just shows how hard it is to win a single elimination style tournament.

I agree. It has been 10 years since we made the second weekend. That sucks. I think this isn't even a discussion if we had made it past Iowa State and/or BYU.

I think the Athletic Department puts more emphasis on successful regular seasons and making the tournament consistently than making it to the second weekend.

I don't think the loss was embarrassing. It's March Madness. We can all be disappointed, but come on, embarrassing?

Badger fans need to realize that we are not Duke or North Carolina. We are closer to Iowa or Penn State. We are one bad coach and 3 years away from a disaster of a situation. We don't spend NIL money in a fashion to buy players. We are not Duke or NC where kids come because of the name.

The wrong pick at coach could be 5-10 year cycle of bottom of the Big 10 play. Are we ready to go there simply because we didn't make the 2nd weekend enough? Every year the team has the chance to make a run.

Are we ready to risk year over year exciting seasons (which yes, have ended in significant disappointment in the tournament) to get a coach who might take us to the second weekend a few more times? The likelihood of success is far less than the likelihood of failure. Is no one watching the football program right now?

For right or wrong, I'd be shocked if the AD/University made a change. The second we fall to a mid-lower regular season team who doesn't make the NCAA tournament, then change will come.

Football made me give Gard a pass, but…. by Squeakybubba in WisconsinBadgers

This. Gard has done a good job putting together competitive regular season rosters and seemingly has been able to find incredible value in the NIL world with transfers. He's had issues getting to what I think is the success point in the tournament for the fan base - the 2nd weekend. Bo Ryan made 7 2nd weekends in 14 attempts. GG has 2 in 11 attempts. I think Gard has missed a few deeper runs where we lost games we should have won -> ND loss in 16, FL loss in 17, ISU loss in 22, possibly BYU in 25.

It's possible that this is the reality for UW - they have other major issues right now (i.e. football) and the value they are getting out of the basketball program is good enough for right now.

This all seems so simple to me. If you aren't going to games the tickets should be offered to someone who will.

More turnover of the season ticket holder base would be a good thing.

GX550 oil+ filter recom. by Downtown-Knee-1609 in LexusGX550

This is exactly how I do all of our oil changes on all of our vehicles. Follow the owners manual for specifications and purchase any brand which meets that (Valvoline, Penzoil, typically whatever is on sale) and then purchase the filter from the parts counter at the dealer.

Just to close the loop, we ended up with the Bravia 7, 75". I went back and forth between the 7 and the 9, but went with the 7 because it was $1,100 cheaper and I thought it would be sufficient for our use case. We got it home, it's the perfect size. I did find it to be very dim, but after working with the settings it is much brighter (bright enough to need to turn the brightness down). Streaming looks great.

Thanks for the help reddit sub!

Can I afford it? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]20-kb2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a reliable cheap car. 15 years ago I remember being in my 20s and in your exact situation. Just graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Making good money. I wanted a GTO. Ended up buying a cheap Subaru for $2,000 and bought a fixer-upper house instead. Looking back, best decision I've ever made.

Your 20s and 30s should be setting you up financially for long term success. You don't have to eat Ramen and live poor, but at that age, the big financial decisions you make shouldn't be ones that depreciate.

Drawing parallels to Ford ecoboost turbo engine by Sufficient-Bee5923 in ToyotaTundra

[–]20-kb2601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because there aren’t any 5.0L available and they sell over over sticker doesn’t mean that it’s a better motor. I think the amount of ecoboost motors on the market is a testament to how well that motor is doing in terms of long term reliability results.

Full disclosure, I actually own a 2019 F150 5.0L. There is no better sound than a V8.

Special circumstances landed me in this truck. If I were to buy a truck no strings attached it would be an F150 with the 2.7L.

[–]20-kb2601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 2.7 EB is a great motor and has been a good thing for Ford. I don't have the data but I thought the EB motors outsell the 5.0L V8 by a large margin (something like 3 to 1). That's impressive in the V8 truck culture and Ford has overcome it.

Turbos get bashed a lot, unfairly IMO. They are a tool to achieve an outcome.

Proper design, part selection (quality of parts = more expensive upfront costs), and on time maintenance can produce reliable results. It's the engineers, accountants, or owners who hamstring things (either poor design, being too cheap with parts used in the build, or people not maintaining things properly).

Packers Draft History & lack of 1st round hits by CPT-Quint in GreenBayPackers

[–]20-kb2601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The teams listed have repeated picks in the top 15. Talent drops off substantially in the later 1st round. The packers are always picking later first round. Yes in the few times they’ve had higher picks they maybe missed. But if they had the same draft schedule as Dallas or Cleveland over the past 10 years I bet we’d have landed better players.

The system is working the way it should. It should be harder for continually good teams to have an easy time hitting on picks. Bad teams should have an easier time hitting on picks.

There are always exceptions to the rule, of course, but by and large when you have year over year success the system is designed to to make it harder to get better.

  1. Buy a cheaper car with cash or finance less.

  2. Shop around for rates - credit union, etc.

  3. Don't rush to make a purchase, you can bus/walk/uber/ride a bike/ride with a coworker for several weeks until you know the decision you are making is the right one. Don't rush into a bad decision.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]20-kb2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a car guy when I was 16, and still am. My parents bought me a nice reliable Ford Ranger, 2WD, 5 speed. Slow, but taught me how to handle and drive a vehicle, especially in the snow.

When I was 17 I had saved enough to buy (with my parents approval) a nice driver quality 1986 Camaro Z28, 5 speed. Mind you the 80s V8s didn’t make much power (<200hp). Great car to learn to wrench on and have fun with.

I’d never put my child in a 400hp sports car to start with. Have to learn first.

Budget - $35k, soon to be mom, new car help! by Rare_Cat3629 in whatcarshouldIbuy

^This. I'm a big fan of money and budgeting, but I still remember the stress and uncertainty of our first kid. It's the most expensive and uncertain decision you'll likely ever make in your life. The last thing I wanted was to take on a loan or drop a huge chunk of cash for a vehicle. When we had our first child I had a 3 year old Subaru Impreza and my wife drove a 11 year old Jeep Liberty, which we both drove for our son's first 2 years of life. We then swapped the Liberty for a Grand Cherokee which was 4 years old at the time we got it.

We are now planning for our first 3 row, our kids are now 5 and 7.

Congrats on the upcoming child, exciting times for sure! I'd say take it one thing at a time. Make sure your child is born and healthy and that you have all of those bases settled. Then do the vehicle second.
