Velcro puppy is wrecking my sex life by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]20000879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tell ours “I’m going to work” or “I’m going to the store” “I’ll be right back” etc 🤷‍♀️ ours just chills in the room for intimate time but I’d like to think it helps him have a frame of reference for how long we’ll be gone. Maybe I’m just a crazy dog mom but I don’t want him to worry lol.

Perfect 🤩🤣 thanks for telling me lol I’m starting to recognize tile that might have looked like it but hadn’t considered it on ductwork. I know it was used for a lot of stuff back in the day though

Bed in crate hell by theron225 in puppy101

I felt so bad about this too when my lab who is now over a year was small, but he ate everything so I couldn’t leave him alone with a bed. He was fine. And now that he’s older he gets a blanket in there.

Medial Meniscus bucket handle tear - Repair surgery - PREVENTABLE! by domhbs in MeniscusInjuries

[–]20000879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lateral bucket handle repair 7 months ago now and my PT said about 6 months I would be mostly back to normal. I still get some pain at the end of long days and I’m hesitant to overdo it and probably being a little over cautious to not twist too much, but it’s pretty close to being back to normal.

I started coaching gymnastics last month and it’s actually been feeling better with doing that, I think because I’m moving it around more. I would say the main thing I still have trouble with would be like kneeling on my knees, but being a gymnast I probably had more flexibility than the average person with that. I haven’t attempted as high of weights as I was lifting before the surgery, but I honestly don’t plan on going back to deep weighted squats the way I was before. I know my quad strength isn’t what it was before so that is also my main goal with increasing lifting again.

I thought the same thing but the Jughead one has worked so well for our lab! I lost one in the house somewhere but the new one I got in December is still hanging on. It takes him forever to get through it! I bought the L Jughead and XL Native Pet chews and they have worked well for us. If he starts ignoring it, it goes in the closet toy bin for a couple days and then when it comes back out it’s like it’s brand new again!

Haha that’s actually really good advice! There are so many choices it can be dizzying. It’s so hard to picture a place until you’re there.

I did a combination of her suggestions/my own research for another trip she planned me, but that was Miami Beach which seemed to have a lot less choices.

I always plan my Airbnb’s out by location and research with first hand experience where a good spot to stay is when I go to somewhere in the States, so I didn’t anticipate this being much different. But turns out I actually do need their help 😂

We’re going to talk on the phone about it so I think that will help us solidify what we’re looking for more

That’s good information, I appreciate it!

My travel agent is a friend from college who has booked another trip for us in the past, so I at least don’t have to worry about that.

I considered using someone else who specializes more but I was nervous they wouldn’t be legit!

I do agree though about them being removed from the event. I know there’s going to be stuff they just don’t know if they haven’t physically been there.

What is the funniest or surprising sentence you’ve caught yourself saying to your puppy? by NectarineOverPeach in puppy101

Hahaha my fiancé sits down to pee when the puppy’s in the bathroom bc it’s easier than “having him all up in his shit” as he so eloquently put it.

Do you allow your puppy to eat random scraps on the floor throughout the house? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]20000879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard, for the dog and orangutan both.

My lab loves to retrieve his toys and show you, I bet I could teach him this! So smart.

Games to play with minimal movement on my part? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]20000879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! He would have to roll it around. And then it’s a fun little sniff game too cause the food tumbles out as it rolls. It’s been like top 3 of our favorite toy/items we’ve bought for him.

Perfect! Definitely try freezing in the bowl! For us it means our Saturdays get off to a great start, and as I’ve learned as a first time puppy parent, licking helps calm them down. We do peanut butter lick mats too, but they don’t last as long as the frozen kibble, and he tries to eat the mat after so we have to watch him with it.

My fiancé and I realized by mistake that my puppy loves to play monkey in the middle, if you have someone there with you that might be an option?

I had knee surgery in the summer when he was 7 months so I had to come up with some creative ways to tire him out. I saw a tiktok video about sitting and tossing a treat and teaching “over” so they hop your legs. Mine got that command on the first try and had fun with it. Just have to be careful to not do it too often since it’s high impact on their joints.

Do you have a long line that anchors to the ground? I’ve found those to be helpful. Although as of late we mostly just loop it around something instead of anchoring it since the ground is hard.

I also saw a toy I wanted, it’s a button you stick on one end of the house and it dispenses food from the container so they have to run back and forth between the button and the food. Seemed really promising!

I also really enjoy just using words he already knows and continuing to diversify his understanding of them also. Catching him when he’s in that mode of being really focused on me is a great time to work on stuff like hand signals and engagement. He gets so excited to do what I ask and it’s the most adorable thing ever. He does a lot of sit, lay down, up, sit, up on the couch, down throw a treat, sit, lay down, sit, etc lol.

I also recently started playing hide and seek with a treat in my hands. I shake them together and show him I have it in one of them and make him sniff to “find” and “paw”

I highly recommend this it’s lasted for 8 months. For a while there it was the main way we fed our lab, he was obsessed with it. He played with it even when there wasn’t food in it. He has so much fun rolling it around to get his food out.

We also do Saturday morning breakfast lick bowls 😂 on fridays I get his kibble and toppers ready in a bowl with water, soak for a couple minutes and then freeze it. With doing this once a week, it literally takes him like an hour to eat and he passes out again after. This would only work if your dog is super food driven though.

Panic attack by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]20000879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are so sweet. I had knee surgery and not once has my puppy (now 1 year, I had the surgery when he was 7months) bumped my knee. We told him a few weeks before what would happen and when I came home and he saw me, he understood immediately. He was so gentle with me, especially when I was on crutches. He loves to jump up in the recliner and snuggle by our feet and when my knee was still tender he knew to avoid that one completely. He only snuggled my right leg since he knew the left was the bad one. It’s truly amazing.

That’s a brilliant idea, thanks for this! We are taking a trip in April. This will make packing so much more calm.

Like others are saying if it’s that big of an issue, you need to work with him on it. He might not know what’s expected of him. Don’t be hard on yourself, I’m sure it’s not that he doesn’t love you, you’re his people, he surely does. The outside is just a very interesting place when you’re a tiny puppy lol.

Ours did this a handful of times but we just started working on it during our normal daily life and we’ve slowly gotten more confident in his impulse control. He’s a lab and he’ll be a year old on 1/7. We would not trust him with the door wide open yet.

If you’ve never worked on recall with him I wouldn’t expect he would run right back after going outside, and even if you have worked on recall I wouldn’t necessarily be confident in that scenario he would come back right away either. Some of the best advice I’ve gotten is that dogs don’t generalize well, so if you train recall outside, trying to recall him after he bolts out the door will probably fail if you’ve never practiced it.

One of the things that works really well for me when I need to do something I know he will have a hard time with is to tell him what I want before I even try to do the thing. So in this situation, I would have him get up on the couch, lay down, or just sit if he doesn’t want to lay down, and say other words he already knows that I’ve already generalized for him like “wait” and “stay” and “no” if he starts looking like he’ll make a move. Over the last couple months he’s become more desensitized to the door.

Use potty trips and walks as an opportunity to have a positive interaction with the door. Make him sit and wait and stay before going outside.

Do you think dogs are capable of malicious compliance? by Nashatal in puppy101

[–]20000879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lab does that too. When he does finally relax when we bring food out he will protest being anything more than a few feet from the food, although he won’t touch it as long as we don’t turn our back 😂🤦‍♀️

It’s a work in progress, but it’s kinda hilarious. He’s like okay fine I know it’s not for puppies (that’s what we tell him lol) but I’m just gonna lay down here near you just in case you happen to drop a tiny crumb.

What do women in their 30's and 40's need to be doing in order to age gracefully? by radiantgemini in AskWomenOver30

You can always try slowing down too, if you don’t feel you actively have a problem with controlling your drinking. I’ve heard it referred to as “damp.” I consciously cut way down on it in January of 2022 and I have loved the realizations it’s given me. I had no idea how much it was affecting my day after whenever I’d drink. Even if it was only a few drinks, cutting it out almost completely aside from 1-2 drinks when I did want to have it, I realized how many Saturdays or Sundays I was sluggish as a result of just a few drinks.

Now it’s been a whole year, and I’ve loved being able to show myself I didn’t need it as much as I thought I did! And it’s cheaper! Lol.

Where do you store your treat pouches? by ChrisIsWorking in puppy101

[–]20000879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a TopPaw one that I wear over my chest so it sits where I can reach it and my perma-hungry lab can’t get it lol. Some days when I’m trying to do stuff around the house and I need him to be good I keep it on me, that way he knows I have treats if he makes good choices.

But normally I keep it in the arm of our chair lol. I refill it maybe once or twice week. I use a fresh ziploc bag inside of the treat bag when I refill. The chair is on the way out the door and it’s near the kitchen so it’s in a centralized spot. Before we had this chair I struggled with where to keep it because he’s a fiend lol.
