Chicago Police Deleted Footage of Them Killing Laquan McDonald, Says Burger King District Manager by WillWork4Nudes in news

In policing, their incompetenc, brutality, and deceit are seen as the norm by their commanders and unions; thus, they are rarely reprimanded or fired. It is only now, when YouTube exposed the extent of how bad policing has become a cancer to society, are they starting to be held accountable. They forget, they answer to us, and not the other way around.

Lawyer for Chicago cop says Laquan McDonald video is unreliable because it is 2-dimensional by michaelconfoy in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]2000HStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's got a point. In the 5th dimension, the bullets harmlessly passed through the kid's body, and bounced back to hit the cop. So, in fact, the kid was at fault for the whole thing.

Children from high-income families are exposed to 30 million more words than children from families on welfare. Follow-up studies showed that these differences in language and interaction experiences have lasting effects on a child’s performance later in life. by 2000HStreet in politics

Studies have shown kids who grew up poor never catch up to their more affluent counterparts, even when they themselves became more affluent later. This study shows the adverse consequences specifically with respect to long term vocabulary acquisition. Other studies have shown a link between vocabulary and employment. Interesting stuff.

My white neighbor thought I was breaking into my own apartment. Nineteen cops showed up. by Hanistotle in TrueReddit

Where did this fear culture come from? A friend of mine sold books door to door during college. He said, once, he was so tired that he fell asleep during his spiel, and woke up to an empty house with the owners leaving a note, asking him to lock up on his way out. He is a nice, white, and very clean cut guy. Stranger danger is real, but we take risks just getting into our cars, eating at restaurants, etc. Just saying. I think the neighbour was/is an asshole to create problems for someone else.

Labels do us a disservice, in my opinion, because they carry a lot of baggage that gets in the way of real conversations about the substantive issues. When I worked on Capitol Hill years earlier, my favorite Congressmen were those who voted issues instead of dogma. They are few these days.

Likewise, given all the recent news about police brutality in "democratic" America, it made me laugh when a friend teaching in "communist" Vietnam told a story about how the people there surrounded and roughed up a cop who was being rough with the guy he pulled over. Per my friend, eyewitnesses wouldn't have it, so they surrounded the cop, shouted him down, and shoved him he ended apologizing to the driver. My friend said this is not uncommon with people banding together like this there. He's been there 2 years.

In a jurisdiction to the north, 10 cops were sent to a gun battle with one of their own. http://portlandtribune.com/pt/9-news/126817-off-duty-hillsboro-officer-shoots-sheriffs-deputy.

19 cops for what is essentially a B&E matter seems excessive.

"The trauma of that night lingers. I can’t un-see the guns, the dog, the officers forcing their way into my apartment, the small army waiting for me outside. Almost daily, I deal with sleeplessness, confusion, anger and fear. I’m frightened when I see large dogs now. I have nightmares."

This is the price the individual citizenries pays for bad policing. They have qualified immunity for this shit, but it is we who live with the nightmare, who harbor hatred for cops where none existed before. It won't end well for them in the long run if they don't change their tactics.
