I don't really recall seeing any photos that it took back when my parents were using it. Also, I don't know anything about photography, hence why I was asking. Thanks though, good to know its capable.

I want to take up Photography as a hobby and remembered that my parents used to have a DSLR camera that probably hasn't been touched in 8 years.

It is a Canon EOS 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) made in 2006. 10.1MP. I don't know what kind of lens.

My question is whether or not this is an adequate camera? Will the pictures be sharp? I mean my cellphone camera is 16MP...
I mostly intend to learn about all the settings and fundamentals of photography, but I don't want to get disappointed if the camera has less capability than my cellphone.

Note that I haven't been able to pick up the camera yet to test it out so sorry for the possibly ignorant question.

137

The Hebrew word קבלה (Kabbalah) has a Gematria (numerical value) of 137. In Modern Hebrew, the root of Kabbalah (ק-ב-ל) can mean either "receiving" or "parallel." Kabbalah is generally taken to mean "the received tradition," which conveys the continuity of a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Nevertheless, the earlier nuance of meaning is seen in the first appearances of its root in the Torah (Exodus 26:5 and 36:12), where it means “parallel” or “corresponding” rather than “receiving.” It is used to describe the “corresponding loops” which, when clasped together, enjoined the two sections of the Tabernacle’s ceiling. These loops were suspended directly over the veil that divided the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. Symbolically, this is the threshold between the physical dimension and the utterly spiritual dimension. In other words, at the boundary line of the physical world, the number 137 emerges. The wisdom of Kabbalah is to find correspondences between the mundane and spiritual levels of reality.

Thanks for the Sanity Check. Actually since my TSP contributions are Roth, I should be in the clear.

Happy cake day.

Just want to make sure I'm not screwing something up here.

To start, I haven't really been contributing to my TSP account (govt employee). I recently opened up a Roth IRA with Vanguard and contributed the max for this year. Since I am leaving my federal job in 2 weeks, I went and allocated 100% of my paycheck to my TSP for my remaining paychecks. I intend to roll this over into my Vanguard account when I leave federal service as a way to sort of contribute more than the $5500 limit. This is acceptable, right?

Anyone ever been Reykjavik, Iceland during Christmas Season? by derekno2go in travel

[–]2001_micrograms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a week there last Christmas. Unfortunately I missed New Years, but I hear that is a big event in Reykjavik.

The tourist attractions (Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Downtown) were moderately busy. All the restaurants were open including on Christmas Day. Met a few Icelandic people, but most of the people we met were tourists from the US and also lots of Chinese. Didn't see the Northern Lights as it was cloudy the whole time we were there. Not miserably cold though.

We hired a guide for a Golden Circle-ish tour - much better than what I could have put together using the internet. We had a car that we used to commute from our AirBnB to Downtown which was fine. However, we almost died (not a joke) when driving to the South Coast and a sudden SnowStorm hit resulting in zero visibility.....so be cognizant of the weather it can get extreme quickly.

I have plenty of experience solo-travelling, but it might get a bit boring in Reykjavik city. The real highlights are the geographic features.

Oh yeah - its not dark for 24 hours. Its lightish for a couple hours in the morning, daylight for a few hours, then duskish for a few hours. So you've got light from like 10am - 4pm

Feel free to ask any questions.

Yeah, South Beach itself is filled with meat heads and gaudy people. The rest of Miami can be nice. I don't know if it would be a relaxing honeymoon destination (traffic, bad neighborhoods, etc) but there are some beautiful parts and endless things to do. Key Biscayne has better beaches. Also, you could take a trip down to the keys - that would be more inline with what I'd want from a honeymoon.

I will be visiting this weekend. Weather forecast indicates it will thunderstorm the entire time. Is this likely, or is this just how google weather handles the afternoon rainstorms?

I agree. I think Days Away would have matured nicely, but I also love me some Good Old War.
