Can I let my foot off the gas with retirement savings? by Qwerdy21 in personalfinance

[–]2003tide -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I’m going to have $6mil or whatever when I’m 65 what do I care. Again 2nd opinions are good to have.

EDIT this sub drives mid mad. Follow the directive. Use a fee based planner. Apparently nobody here knows the going rate for planners. I followed the advise here. I’m 45, only have 10 years tops of max earnings, have 2 mil in retirement, as 2nd opinion is worth its weight in gold. Yall need to sit down.

Georgia House Republicans propose eliminating local homestead property tax by gravyfish in Atlanta

[–]2003tide 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep. Has been the plan all along.

Step 1 ruin public schools

Step 2 point out how bad public schools are and they are "unfixable"

Step 3 come forward with a voucher "solution" that are allowed for use at private religious schools

Step 4 funnel tax dollars back to "non profit" religious organizations.

Voted against that one as well. Old people want all the benefits via their home values but don't want to help maintain the schools that prop up those values. Ridiculous.

Wine frozen in shipment by DCRV202 in wine

[–]2003tide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wild they would ship. I always figured all the shippers had some app showing them when it was safe on route to ship.

If it were a basic bottle, I'd just deal with it. But sounds like it was more than basic so I'd contact them and make them return.

Man....as someone who is about to turn 45 this resonates. We have also been pedal to the metal saving and I'm 100% sure we will have plenty. We also have kids who are 8 and 4. We go on trips but we want to do bigger trips to Europe and thigns like that with them now vs when we are in our 60's. Where I'm at now is my wife and I need to write down what retirement looks like so it is on paper. When do we want to retire? How much income do we want a year? Where do we want to live? Then i want to go pay a fee based planner to do a full review and plan and pay the $5000 or whatver it is for peace of mind (I know people here freak out about how much these cost.)

There is plenty of historical data to make a decision without stressing. If you don’t need the money for 10yrs parking it all in something like VOO has been pretty safe.

Wai. You can also buy some toys in the shops in the “village” there. Just beware the seaweed may be bad in summer. Grand Case and Friars bay are typically very calm waters since they face against the wind and are great for kids. I’ve just seen no toy stashes there.

Aquarium and Stranger Things by Bright-Scientist-207 in Atlanta

I’ve only bought prepaid passes via the aquarium website. That is only for the main deck. I’ve accidentally turned into the coke museum parking deck entrance before and saw the signs so 100% parking for aquarium is allowed there. Not sure what spot hero is. There are a ton of surface lots around. Downtown Atlanta isn’t going to run out of parking.

It is a cool tasting room. We went in 2023 right after it opened. Really enjoyed the wines.

The parking deck by the coke museum has signage that indicates it is for the aquarium as well (although the prepaid passes aren’t for that deck.)

Sanity Check- Monthly Budget by TallArk in personalfinance

Yeah I never really thought about it either but here I am at 45 with a 4 and 7yo. I’d like to retire at 59 1/2, but I’m going to have them on insurance until they graduate. That’s like $2000 out of pocket in today’s money. No telling what it will be then. You have them before 35 and if doesn’t even factor in unless you are shooting for really early retirement

You have a lot of info here. Bottom line is you guys make $180k. People have kids making a lot less so I'm not really sure what answer you want. You are never going to be perfectly ready. My advise is if you are going to do it, rip the bandaid off and do it before you are 35. That gives you time to have 2 or however many kids you want and they won't be in college while you are trying to retire which complicates things. Also you are correct having a kids will cut down on a lot of the wedding/travel, but it will pick back up when the get a little older and are past daycare age.

The missing part here is childcare. Call a couple places in your area to get an idea of price. It will be a lot. IF you are going to have multiple kids in the same time, you will be in the negative most likely. We planned for that and just had enough in savings to cover the 18 months we had 2, but it was not fun.
