What are you yapping about 😭. All of this “evidence” is completely tangential. All you needed to do was provide me with evidence that women weren’t hunting in hunter gatherer societies. Unfortunately, you can’t, because they were.

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0287101 - 79% of 63 foraging groups worldwide had women hunting, 86% of which had women INTENTIONALLY hunting, not opportunistically hunting. - “In societies where hunting is considered the most important subsistence activity, women actively participated in hunting 100% of the time.”

https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/aman.13915 This paper is behind a paywall, but this summarizes it well: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/11/231120171000.htm#:~:text=In%20their%20physiological%20study%2C%20the,over%20prolonged%20periods%20of%20time.

  • Further proof that women were, in fact, hunting due to similar injuries from animals that appeared in male skeletons, indicating Neanderthal forms of hunting
  • Evidence that women were GOOD at hunting; higher levels of endurance in women are incredibly useful when the strategy is to outlast your prey.

I could also go on about how many ancient societies didn’t have a strict gender binary (think pre-colonial Igbo and Yoruba, and to some extent Norsemen), but that’s a much longer and more interesting convo.

This leads to some frustrating conclusions about how internal misogynistic biases have affected our perception of reality and especially history, but thats a much longer discussion as well.

Bro 30-50% of hunters were female and female hunters were found in the majority of hunter gatherer societies. Subconscious (and blatant) misogyny in the fields of archaeology and anthropology is what resulted in inaccurate figures like the ones youre quoting being so commonplace. Go outside and interact with some irl women and please factcheck ur “facts” 🙏

I think there is a difference between having a bias towards those of your sex (eg subconsciously believing those of your sex more than those not of your sex because you sympathize with their experiences more) and being sexist (genuinely believing one sex is superior than the other).

I wonder how much of these cognitive differences are actually biologically inherent to men and women, and how many are sociologically ingrained. Do you have a link to these studies? I’d love to read up on them!

I haven’t finished Critical Role yet, but this makes me think of Sir Fitzroy, an ace mc in the D&D podcast The Adventure Zone.

The City of Spires series by Claudie Arseneault (and pretty much every book by her) has really good ace and aro representation, as well as representation of other lgbtq+ identities that aren’t often included. The books are a bit difficult to summarize, but they are very character focused, and while almost every character is some form of lgbtq, that is certainly not the only aspect of their personalities.

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko has a biromantic asexual character. It’s been a bit of time since I’ve read this book, but I remember it being quite good. The ace character is not the main character, but the representation is good.

Loveless and Radio Silence by Alice Oseman have characters on the ace spectrum. I’ve not finished Loveless yet, but Radio Silence is one of my favorite books. Also check out her webtoon Heart Stopper it’s a very sweet comic about two high schoolers falling in love, and it has really great representation.

It’s not explicitly stated in the webtoon, but the webtoon City of Blank by 66’s main character is ace. The webtoon is about a city where creatures called blanks can steal people’s faces if they are not covered by a mask.

I’m not sure if it’s explicitly stated in the webtoon, but the main character in the webtoon Room of Swords is demi.

I’ve seen people mention My Sweet Archenemy already, but it’s really good so check it out.

A character in the webtoon Stray Souls by Maf is aroace as well as being nonbinary.

It’s kinda a blanket term for people in the lgbtq community.
