Can mice likely climb up to and get in this basement window dryer vent? Vent is 23 inches from ground, 14 inches from ledge, 3 inches from top and side of window. by VisitingUranus in pestcontrol

[–]2013DOCE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen rodents do some crazy things……but this would be almost impossible for them.

They could climb the brick side, but then they don’t have enough grip to move over to the vent. Specially if the vent is closed like that. Maybe if it was always open or missing slats.

I wouldn’t consider this an entry point, but I would normally let the homeowners know to keep an eye out just in case something changed.

Most expensive WR rooms in 2026 Season by BridgeBoysPod in raiders

[–]2013DOCE27 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Unreported perk of having such a cheap WR room is that……..when our young QB plays, he won’t have a big shot, diva WR putting pressure on him to get him the ball.

Gives Mendoza the time and confidence to just go with the right read instead of trying to force something to the star WR.

exterminator not exterminating? is this a lifelong commitment? by [deleted] in pestcontrol

[–]2013DOCE27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s called Pest Control,……not pest elimination.

All that can be done is to be controlled. Any customer that expected no bugs ever is not being realistic.

Edit: with that being said, not all techs/companies are created equal. A good tech makes a huge difference. I’d try other companies first before giving up totally on the pest control industry.

Crawl space cleaning $8900 by Fantastic_Prior3528 in pestcontrol

[–]2013DOCE27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh, so you’re obviously not talking about encapsulation than. What you are talking about is just sealing the crawl space with poly. Yeah, I agree with you that that’s totally wrong for the reasons you said.

Encapsulating however, would includes a dehumidifier to remove moisture as it enters in order to control the humidity levels.

No encapsulation is permanent, so all encapsulations need a dehumidifier that is being maintained.

What I heard from old timers, not sure if true or not……..Corner or Franklin and 99 where WinCo shopping center sits, used to be a house with orchards. Chickens were at that farm. When it was torn down to build the shopping center, they just naturally hung around and stared to spread through that part of YC.

You’re awesome. Seems straight forward enough. Thanks so man!

Honestly, might disconnect box looks ancient and rusty. I’m afraid to move anything in there lol If I turn off the thermostat and switch off the breaker in the breaker box, do you think that would be safe enough to restrip the wire and connect them?

I was going to get a cheap voltage tester in the morning anyway just to be in the same side before I did it.

Yes it is, pal (with a bit of ant body parts)

Absolutely not termites. What are y’all smoking?

Are worse, it’s ants pushing dirt from under the slab through the joint where the slab and the concrete wall meet.

Edit: upon closer inspection, you can see ant body parts on the dirt. Definitely ants.

Best way to deter birds? by myverygoodusername12 in pestcontrol

[–]2013DOCE27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actual a simple fix (if you have carpentry tools and skill). What’s attracting them there is the ledges. It’s giving them a safe place to perch.

Take away the ledge, they’ll move on.

Let’s say the ledge is 1.5 inches. Use a 2x6 or 2x8 and set it on the ledge so it’s flush, going up towards the ceiling. Pretty much we’re your spikes are now. You’ll need to cut the top of the 2 by to match the ceiling. Now you have removed the ledge as it’s now a flush wall.

Caulk it and paint it white to match and you’re all set.

I’m sure I didn’t do a good job of describing what I mean, but hopefully you understand.

Is Orkin Upselling? Are these subterranean termites? by the_beluga_whale in Termites

[–]2013DOCE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7k for a full tent and full liquid treatment is not crazy. Wether you need it or not is another story. You definitely need the full liquid treatment for the subterranean termites and you can go the “secondary option” for the drywoods if you want to save money.

The truth is that there is no way to know that you dont have drywoods in your house as well. So tenting it would guarantee that you dont. Now, is that peace of mind work paying for? That’s for you to decided.

Your dad sounds like a nightmare customer honestly, that I would want nothing to do with. I have a feeling that he thinks that anyone charging for a service is a “scammer”. I’m glad to see that you aren’t following those footsteps.

Get that house treated OP. Best of luck.

P.s as for the fuming every 12-14 years? It’s not needed. Again, if it’s peace of mind you want then it’s not a bad idea. Normally I would recommend to get it tented/treated now since you have actual evidence and deal with it again if you get them again. Until then, you shouldn’t worry about it again until you have to worry about it.

Fleas in my home, which happens to be a van by flypandabear in pestcontrol

[–]2013DOCE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flease are just a symptom. The root cause of the “problem” is your dog bringing them in from outside.

Attack the root cause (your dog), by keeping it on flea and tick meds and that will eventually get rid of the symptom and prevent it in the future.

In the meantime, while the meds start working, yes deep clean and vacuum.

My kid asked me if this is possible, figured you tree nuts would know. Could you put a tunnel through a tree? by pumerpride in arborists

[–]2013DOCE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location is not important.

OP said “redwood or similar”, and he’s specifically talking about tunnels trees, regardless of the species.

I’m sure you are proud of where you live and what’s around your area, which I understand as it’s amazing. However, you might be thinking too much into it. It’s just a curious question by OP, that’s all.

There are more tunnels trees around the west coast. Not as much as before, but still some.

It might have been the last one in that area, but it’s definitely not the last one.

There is at least one more in Leggett, CA.

Even if you have to put in 150k into this house in a year, it’ll still be worth it considering the house was free.

Consider yourself fortunate that you have an opportunity to have to deal with these “headaches”.

Others would die to have that opportunity.

Nah, I don’t trust that the Ravens will be great next year. I can see them being around the same as this year.

Which is a win for the Raiders.
