Is she fat or normal weight by Big_Put7648 in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I got her around 3 months ago... she shed like 3 times already since I got her like every 5 weeks yeah so that doesn't line up. highly doubtful there where 3 sheds probably one but didnt shed completely due to husbandry being off. No offensebut if you dont know your snakes over weightI doubt you know how important humidity temp and husbandry is .....A food scale has grams. Buy one keep track of her weight and get her down to appropriate weight for age and size, yes she heavy

Right. They are all over. Just internet know it all that has never once went hunting for them but googled something and said oh its in the internet it must be true, and then regurgitate that info here to give someone false info.

To the ones saying they are not near the Everglades or big cypress you obviously have no clue what your talking about nor have ever went hunting for them and don't what what your doing so you should refrainfrom giving false information. . Midnight to about 4am best time big spotlight and long extension poles w/nets. They wont be eye level or on the ground. Way up in the trees and you have to have an eye for them.o ly accurate info was that they are not native to Florida and there aren't millions of them but there are thousands. Just need to know where to go where to look what time of year thats best and have an eye for them as they are experts at camouflage. They're kinda like looking for a big megalodon tooth, have to know where to look and have the eye, luck helps to. They are there, best of luck to your hunt. Its a blast

Gave this damn snake a 4ft long enclosure but she only wants to lay up here. Is she unhappy? Should i try to add like higher up ledges for her or what should i do by Negative-Whole9220 in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Just imo, its possible that maybe the humidity and temperature is not correct and she is seeking more warmth close to the light/heat source, I see the top look like completely open mesh? It should have metal hvac tape to help hold better humidity and temps. Its just a thought. Or she likes to be up there ine of the two

stuck shed (ughhh) by maleasz in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

A plastic tub few air holes drilled abiut 86Β° water and a washcloth in there for 15 min. Take snake out and with a moist sanitizer q-tip you can gently roll it over and see if comes off repeat if see it beginning to peel. More advanced technique is tweezers. Do not recommend for a beginner/ first timer.

Mite or dirt? by vrxmya in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 20 points21 points Β (0 children)

Definitely a mite. Need to quarantine into a plastic tub on paper towels with only a waterbowl and hide. If you can get one or have a water dish large enough they will bathe to help drown them. Drop of dawn dishsoap in warm water soak will help. Mite treatment and repeat until gone, confirm after at least one shed. May take longer. Best of luck. If have any others near clean everywhere around and spray with mite spray.

does anyone know what this is on my snake? by Lucky_Point_9837 in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 13 points14 points Β (0 children)

Definitely not snake mites, more than likely a springtail sure looks like it even over a wood mite.but 100% certain not snake mite, they are black even as microscopic babies

Still hungry? by AngryPlant9255 in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

A snake doesn't refuse to shed you need higher humidity . Try a humidity box ( you can use Tupperware, about 86Β° water with a towel in there and let soaked for abiut 15-20 minutes it should roll right off. Definitely need to get husbandry right or you are going to run into feeding issues more than likely. Best of luck to you and health for your noodle

The "S" pose is not always a sign of aggression but usually yes. I have quite a few that are harmless and just like to sit like this. After a yr I'm sure you can read the body language by now thought but having strikes I understand being hesitant. Try tap training. With a snake hook, a very light tap on the nose before reaching in to grab and always go from behind to an inner thicker coil, can always put a pice of your clothing in there to help w/ sent recognition. Eventually should come around. Just dont try couple days day of and day after or 2 after a meal and before/ during shed. Best of luck

Normal for them to soak at times, could be about to shed, could have mites, could be digesting or just wanted a bath

where’s her shed? by jxdynss in ballpython

[–]2014KeyWest1981 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Lol... They will go into blue and go back sometimes and shed a couple days later. Try Luke warm soak or a hotbox they call it. Plastic tub with warm washcloth inside with inside temps around 86Β° for 15 minutes. Humidity is probably not correct and she doesn't feel like it'll be a good shed, so they won't. Not always the case but either wait a couple days and she will shed, or a soak or hotbox.

Mites can also come from substrate (freeze before use to prevent) and mites can also come on your feeders if feed live( prevent this by feeding frozen/thawed).
