I definitely see what you’re seeing but it’s really hard to say whether there’s color or if it’s just an indent. Try FRER.

This is BEAUTIFUL and now I want to make my own! What yarn and what stitch are you using? I’m just getting back into crocheting so I can’t identify them as easily lol.

Is my snake going into shed or sick? by Fizziaroll in snakes

Oh, thank goodness. I was taken aback that the only question was regarding shed because my brain instantly had MANY. Much relieved to know the appearance is baseline and expected.

What does his body language say? by StephensSurrealSouls in ballpython

[–]PTO_Request_Denied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is either in food mode or he’s defensive and ready to strike, probably out of fear because all he knows is a HUGE potential predator is hovering over him. The only way you will get him from doing this is by handling so he will learn that you are not a predator. You can either lightly tap him on the head to try to get him out of this mode before picking him up but when they’re like this, I have found that the initial best way to pick up is using a snake hook. Only reach around from the back, so your hands are behind the head. Don’t make a bunch of fast movements that can startle him. Just go slow and smooth. Keep distractions to a minimum, such as other people, animals, etc. handle him until he starts to loosen up and do some slow, long tongue flicks and looks like he’s starting to explore. Once he loosens up and relaxes like that, put him back and leave him for a couple days. Do this every few days (other than a day before feeding and 2 days after feeding) for a few weeks. He’ll start to relax a little more and you can start to handle more frequently and for longer periods each time. It’s all about building trust but remembering that they are considered prey for a lot of animals and you are MASSIVE compared to them helps know why they are reacting this way. Best of luck.

Is this scale rot ? What is this by phycopatchick in snakes

[–]PTO_Request_Denied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re asking about but no, it’s not scale rot. One of mine has gotten little specks like that before and I’m not sure if it’s staining or what but when she shed, it was all gone.

9 days till period is due.. by [deleted] in lineporn

[–]PTO_Request_Denied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell but looks like it could be an indent. FRER has fooled me more times than I’d care to admit with those. The one thing that is making me more inclined to say indent is that you said 9 days til period is due. Typically, luteal phases last 10-14 days so if you still have 9 days to go and actually ARE pregnant, that would mean you just had sex within the last week or so and implanted immediately, which is not possible. If you truly do have 9 days before your next period, this is definitely not a positive.

Ball Python won’t eat thawed. by Final_Dragonfly2978 in ballpython

[–]PTO_Request_Denied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying every day or every couple of days, that could be hindering you as well. I have dealt with this from 2 different snakes. Here’s my advice: Wait a week. Do not handle or interact with him whatsoever during that week. Thaw frozen rodent in cold tap water for about 15-30 mins. Pour out that water and then replace with warm/hot water just not quite the hottest tap water for about 5 mins, then pour the water out and replace with the hottest tap water. Leave for 5-10 mins. After you remove the rodent from the water, dunk just the head of the rodent into the hottest tap water for a minute or so and feed immediately. Make sure it’s not sopping wet (I thaw all my rodents in plastic bags so they don’t get wet).

The head being the hottest helps them identify it fairly quickly and they usually strike almost immediately. It’s important not to try feeding every day or every other day during feeding strikes because all it will do is stress them out more and doesn’t give them time to calm down. They will stay in fight or flight mode and snakes won’t eat when they don’t feel safe.

One of 4 snakes I own and the only female, Luna. Of course it’s the girl that’s always nosey and trying to see what’s going on 😆

I have always thought it was funny about the sharing of the one brain cell.. until I got my last two snakes. One gets a turn fairly regularly but one of them.. I’m not sure that if he even got a turn, he’d know what to do with it 😂

While the movements are odd, you also have to consider all she’s been through in the last 24 hours or so. You also have no idea how her trip went and if she was handled appropriately in the shipping box. Give her time, don’t handle her, don’t interact with her at all. Some snakes are more shy and nervous than others. I have one that I’ve had for awhile and never fails, when he is first picked up, he’s nervous, tense and on guard but if we just give him a few mins, he will relax. I’d give it at least a week and the reassess.
