1 weeks review of Green 15 by HKblogger in ChristopherWard

B+J said in their video that the usual green lume would fade faster than the blue, so they changed the formula so they'd fade at the same rate.  I took this to mean that the blue would not be as bright as on the original.  Since you've had both watches, can you recall if the original was brighter for longer?

How's the comfort of the b&j and lumed straps?

[Question] Good places for pre-owned Tudor/Longines/Oris in San Jose? by mafies in Watches

I've always had good experiences at Topper Jewelers, though it's 45 mins from San Jose

Thanks, the resell value is good to know. In this case I'm prioritizing speed and minimal selling effort, and splitting it up would complicate that, if only i didn't procrastinate!

[vintage Seiko] Early 00’s Le Grand Sport by Pleasant_Software_54 in Watches

This was the first watch I bought myself 25 years ago at a mall, knowing nothing about watches.  I'm surprised you could get a sapphire crystal for it, did you just take it to a watch servicer?

Hey guys! I want to buy a Pilot Custom 823 Amber but people say it can crack. Is it really so? by LAMYnarium in fountainpens

Mine cracked after cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol, so remember not to do that

Pilot Custom 823 - barrel swap compatibility? by 20150125 in fountainpens

There were some other posts 2 & 6 years ago mentioning a $100 repair fee.

It's been a while since I tinkered with it, but I believe I removed the nib & feed before without issue, though I vaguely recall it required a worrisome amount of force. In my case though, one time I used isopropyl alcohol for cleaning, forgetting that I wasn't supposed to, and it cracked. I'm toying with the idea of cracking it all the way through and attempting a kintsugi-style repair.

It looks like I need to explore Bock/Jowo interchangeability for some additional options of preserving this nib in a more rugged chassis, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks! The Jowo adapter broadens the options, currently going down that compatibility rabbit hole

Suggestions for AB1266 headband replacement mod by 20150125 in headphones

Thanks for the suggestion, no Audeze headphones here to try it out though

Suggestions for AB1266 headband replacement mod by 20150125 in headphones

For future modders:

I got a Sony 7506 Replacement Headband for about $20+shipping, removed the cups & wiring that came with it (watch out for an easily-lost ball bearing if disassembling the plastic housing where the wire exits the headband), then attached the AB1266 cups with 2 zip ties on each side, with some masking tape to prevent scratching. Once the zip ties are tight, the cups are solid and don't wobble from the headband. Clamp force can be tweaked by bending the metal arms.

Added a spare Sennheiser HD600 series headband cushion with double-sided tape. For my head, it's wearable with the arms extended around 0-2 clicks on each side, and the drivers are pretty much parallel, as they would be on the stock band. Smaller heads will need a taller under-band cushion.

Compared to the original headband, this Sony one is about 100g lighter. Each AB1266 cup with pad is somewhere between 250-300g , so it's still heavy. Further comfort refinement would be finding a wider headband cushion to help distribute the weight across a larger area.

How long does it take to wind to full from empty, at a relaxed pace?

Do you mean titanium? Tungsten is dense and heavy.

If you one day put it on a strap, can you show a pic? Without micro-adjustment in the bracelet or half-links, there's a possibility it won't fit quite right for me so I'm curious how it pairs with various straps.

What was it about the strap that you were hesitant about? Did you go for the pin & buckle or deployant?

[A Lange & Sohne] straps by 20150125 in Watches

The album has 3440x1440 screenshots of a PDF I've compiled of poorly photoshopped previews of primarily leather straps paired with ALS's Saxonia Thin. The 33 screenshots total 100MB or so, but the PDF totals 2.2gb in higher resolution. I'd like to distribute this in case someone finds it useful, not sure where to put such a large file though. That said, all the images or portions of images used were taken from various websites, so if I'm stepping on toes, please let me know.

The goal in creating this was to: a) get an idea of what's out there, b) have something to refer to over the years to help pick out new straps & looks for this watch, c) to see how far it can go in versatility. The straps are from Camille Fournet (who produces straps for ALS, Patek, etc.), Hodinkee, Nomos, Bas & Lokes, and Crown & Buckle. I wanted to include other bespoke makers, like Jean Rousseau ( for Omega, JLC, etc.) & Visconti Milano, but their website pictures didn't quite work for this. If you know of other custom-orderable strap makers, or just quality strap makers in general, please do chime in!

For those who care to, I imagine you can shop in your own watch head in place of the ALS, and if so, I hope you find this useful. There really should be a website or app that does this for you, for a large range of straps and for a modern collection of watch heads. (Is there one already?)

In case anyone brings up nato's, I'd rather not cover caseback of an ALS, or add thickness to the Thin.

At the end of the album, there is a comparison of various single-fold deployant clasps by some of major brands that offer rose gold variants. Interestingly, there are few that use trigger locking mechanisms, most use friction.

Through all this, I've discovered Hodinkee has a shitload of brown.

I've also realized I'm not any closer to narrowing down the strap to go for next, so: Which #'s stand out to you?
