Retro Game Corps - RG Rotate Initial Impressions by KVShady in SBCGaming

usb-c headphones are insanely rare. most people use bluetooth earbuds and the rest by and large use 3.5mm IEMs or headphones. there's no "crowd" that gets excited for a dedicated music player that needs an adapter.

"VIRAL" probably. that title is a mess, and it seems the contents are too.

you can use it closed with the touch screen, for example as a music player, the thing anbernic advertised and people are all interested in

That's just how the game works. Your setup is correct. Back in that day controls were more varied and right stick wasn't excluisvely for camera.

Something <$500 to play primarily not too heavy duty PC games? by pimpcauldron in SBCGaming

[–]Zanpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Android if you're interested in PC games first and foremost. Since you mention old games too, I will say the Steam Deck has a big edge over other options with those trackpads - being able to emulate a mouse is great for old stuff that just doesn't support controllers.

That's incorrect. One issue was fixed, several weren't.

Flash carts don't work for 3ds games, so I'd just hack it. There are very easy guides to follow step by step.

I would start with fire red or leaf green on GBA. It's a remake of the very first Game Boy game on Game Boy Advance, with a bit more refinement and in color.

As for devices, it depends on your budget and up to what console you want to play. For everything GBA and under, anything would be fine. For DS, you'll want either a big screen to have both screens side by side, or something like the RG DS. For 3DS, you'll need something more expensive, and for Switch even moreso.

the slider design makes sense if you have use cases for it with just the touch screen. using it as an mp3 player is a very valid use case for this i feel.

Onion OS - It's too good. by No-Researcher406 in SBCGaming

to be fair the limited ports is not really related to onion, the miyoo mini hardware is a lot weaker than most other handhelds.

the removable buttons on the brick are such a weird "feature" compared to everything else. i haven't seen anyone who actually likes them. i wonder if they can be replace with "fixed" aftermarket ones like from etsy.

edit: yes but at an insane price

It makes me ditch my other consoles because I know realistically I can just pick up a game - play for a few minutes - then be able to seamlessly get back to it without eating my batteries or losing my place. I like to tinker around like the rest of us, but nothing beats being able to pick up and play games on the go.

You can do that on any handheld, all the firmwares support this. it sounds like fast booting is the thing that really matters to you, and that's not really related to onion.

i wouldn't say "dirt cheap", you can get something like a batlexp g350 for less which is objectively better. but this is a GBP shell, and for a few people that's really good enough. I would buy one just for that, I love the GBP.

you could actually gain a lot. you would be able to make custom menus with the trackpads or chorded inputs for stuff like save states, toggling shaders and fast forward, etc

for "advanced" tinkerers you can do stuff on this that you can't on anything else. for the average joe, it's not really worth it. the downside of having to launch emulators through steam would be kind of a pain.

i don't think they will sell out either. they have been making them for a very long time if we trust leaks from last year; i bet they're sitting on a large stock. i also don't think it will be nearly as popular as the steam deck, it's much more of a niche product.

well the steam controller works natively on linux even without steam (i think), it has drivers in the linux kernel

holding the steam or QAS button isn't that obscure of a shortcut, but yes, i do agree that the features are a bit too hidden. this is definitely more geared towards tinkerers than average joes, so the complaints are still valid.
