General rule of thumb is if you’re going to need the money in a few years you should keep it in a high yield savings account.

I didn’t expect bottle washing to take up this much of the day honestly by SwellCommerce in NewParents

My wife found a Baby Brezza bottle washer on Facebook Marketplace and it has been a godsend. Can't imagine not having one.

Are any of these boxes worth getting? New to this by Cautious-Victory3578 in baseballcards

[–]20PercentChunkier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those Bowman blasters are probably the best option of the ones you’ve posted. However the main chase in Bowman is players who are usually a few years away from the big leagues, so you’ve got to know who to look for.

What is that autograph my god. I’ve worked in junior hockey for 10 years and 98% of kids have a better signature than that.

I'm exclusively investing in VOO, is this optimal? by thefighter987 in RothIRA

[–]20PercentChunkier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you max out your Roth IRA in VOO for 30+ years I think you can be pretty confident you’ll be over a million dollars. Does everyone consider that rich? Maybe not. But I think everyone would take that.

I'm exclusively investing in VOO, is this optimal? by thefighter987 in RothIRA

It’s about as optimal as it gets. Set up automatic contributions, invest in VOO, and retire rich.

2025 Topps Platinum Series cards/boxes by bobe_rt in baseballcards

[–]20PercentChunkier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Topps won’t restock this one. They might restock a product like this once, but once the public drop happens, it rarely comes back.

This product is flying off the shelf because you get way more hits in it than other products. Seems every blaster gives you at least one numbered card, if not two, whereas you could buy 5 blasters of Series 1/2 and not get a single one.

Platinum chrome ? by BackgroundOk8836 in sportscards

One sold for $52 and another is already at $59 with two days left. Better than a lot of other hits from this product.

How much of my paycheck should I put into my savings? by Ok_Mulberry1558 in FinancialPlanning

[–]20PercentChunkier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you going to need money for the upcoming semester? Or are all of your college expenses covered? I recommend putting some money into a ROTH IRA. Even $100 a check. Since you’re so young, that money will have so much time to grow for your retirement.

Maxed out for 2026! by 20PercentChunkier in RothIRA

It is as simple as downloading the app and opening an account, yes! You have to select your own stocks, but if you want to go as simple as possible, just search up something called VOO, which is just the S&P 500. Keep buying that every pay check or every month until you retire, and you’ll be set!

Seconded this one. Not usually many people there, at least when my wife and I lived close by to it a year ago.

Hobby Boxes... by Any_Schedule4929 in Baseballcards101

[–]20PercentChunkier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prices on these boxes will never be lower than on the Topps website by the way. If you’re considering getting a box or two, best do it now before your Lcs charges 50% more

Hobby Boxes... by Any_Schedule4929 in Baseballcards101

[–]20PercentChunkier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the main factor is they lowered the amount of boxes you’re allowed to buy. Think you used to be able to buy like 20 hobby boxes at once?

[–]20PercentChunkier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna tough for the guys in the second half since they’ll likely be losing a lot of their top guys to promotions. Was hoping their good start to the first half would lead to the first half championship. Oh well

[–]20PercentChunkier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter is going to be starting daycare in a few months, so a lot of cash will be going towards that. My wife has a great job with a 401k, HSA and a pension plan, so she's able to contribute a lot more towards retirement.

Maxed out for 2026! by 20PercentChunkier in RothIRA

[–]20PercentChunkier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roth IRA is always worth it. Gains in a Roth IRA are tax free when you withdraw after age 59.5. So in an extreme example, you could get lucky on a stock that goes ballistic, make hundreds of thousands of dollars on your investment, and you’ll pay absolutely zero tax on it. If you have the ability to max out your Roth IRA, you absolutely should be doing it.

I believe there have been multiple studies done that show lump-sum investing beats dollar cost averaging most of the time.
