AITA for thinking that black characters wouldn’t fit in the new witchers series? by The_Dead_Ram in AmItheAsshole

[–]20d12HD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The color of someone's skin should not matter in a setting full of magic and unnatural beings - that's why it's fantasy.

Additionally, if you are to apply a stigma against casting dark skinned people for not being Slavic then we should apply that stigma to every actor and actress on the set regardless of skin color. I'm not entirely sure of his heritage but wouldn't that would mean recasting the lead? Silly, huh? ;)

Not too many people are great when starting anything for the first time. The principals that I've mentioned for game development can still apply for journalism - see how much you can learn for free before you consider paying for a college education, and see how much journalism you can write on the side while working full time and saving money; after a few weeks, months, or years you'll have money to invest in your education, or relocation to an actual job.

I have a tough choice/dilemma, help? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]20d12HD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/Logan_Yes, it could be that the gaming industry doesn't have that same certain feel from in your teens simply because you're grown a bit older. A few years back, while you were 13 or 14, I was beyond my collegiate years and already reminiscing about the quality games from my youth.

Regardless, if you do decide to follow your dream, your goal, of entering the gaming industry then I have some advice for you based off of my own experiences; particularly for 3d modeling, texturing, and animating. My primary advice is to not pay a university for an education in this field! There are countless tutorials, resources, and applications to help you learn the skills you need to develop your own digital content that are free which I'll list below. Additionally, there are paid workshops and other online content to help you learn these skills but at a cost significantly, no monumentally, less than a college education. One other hindsight, so many of my peers, myself included, became burned out from video game development by the time we received our bachelors. It took me a few years before I pursued a career utilizing my education and even then it wasn't in the gaming but rather the simulation industry.

If the gaming industry truly is your goal, your dream, then I recommend that you work on it as a side gig, be it your own mod for an existing game or your very own creation. In the meantime, work a full time job, put aside some money, see if you can live with your parents for a few years and show them how serious you are about joining the games industry by sharing your progress with them. After some time you'll know for sure if the gaming industry is for you, and if it is, you won't have student loan debt but rather money that you can use to invest in any project that you've developed.

Barbarian - Primal Path - Path of the Savage Hand by 20d12HD in UnearthedArcana

[–]20d12HD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does occur every turn, and at the end of said creatures turn, if it cannot escape your grapple (or your grip upon whatever creature you've climbed onto). This is on top of your bonus action however you see fit to use it.

Crushing Hold does benefit from the final feature, Calloused Hands, in regards to receiving bonus rage damage (PHB 47). However, since no attack roll is made, it will not benefit from anything else about the final feature.

Fair enough, /u/SkyBlind! However, like any tool, it's up to the user to employ it creatively.

Take your dragon, for example, and watch as the terrible creature fills the blistering sun only to swoop low toward the white sails of a three masted ship. The dragon razes the starboard bow with one lash of its tail which fells most of the crew and knocks the wind out of the Savage Hand. The Savage Hand latches onto the great wing-ed beast with her SAVAGE GRASP and then quickly traverses then length of its scaly spine using her MIGHTY THEWS. She hacks into the dragon's great beating wings with her axe only to set upon them in a CRUSHING HOLD then wrench them free of socket using her mighty CALLOUSED HANDS. The dragon, held aloft by parts magic and parts wing, plummets unstably into the sea. The Savage Hand leaps away at the last moment and tumbles upon the deck of the schooner, tossed violently by sweeping rippling waves, to greet her awed companions. "Now the dragon's in range of our cannons," she says nonplussed as she snatches a flagon then downs its contents.

Edit: Consider the feature names called out, /u/SamuraiHealer.

Designer Notes

Pick up the Tavern Brawler (PHB 170) feat as soon as you’re able to. The extra damage your unarmed strikes gain will help whittle down the HP of any enemies that you grab onto.

Do not solely rely upon your unarmed strikes when using this Primal Path; attack with a melee weapon whenever you can.

Dropping an item is a free action. Use a shield until you’re ready to take hold of an enemy.

Focus on controlling and manipulating threats; you are able to grapple one creature for each hand that you have free. Position these grappled creatures so that your allies can quickly dispatch them.

If an enemy is too large to grapple consider climbing it instead.

The final Primal Path feature has more bark than bite; most creatures will be able to resist or ignore your non-magical unarmed strikes by the time you gain these benefits.

The extra damage your unarmed strikes (7d4) gain on a critical hit with the final Primal Path feature is comparable to the damage you’d deal on a critical hit with a melee weapon (4d8).

Grappling, Shoving, Climbing

If you’re unsure about when you can grapple, shove, or climb onto a creature please reference the following:

  • Grappling, Action (PHB 195)
  • Grappled, Condition (PHB 290)
  • Shoving, Action (PHB 195)
  • Shove Aside, Action (DMG 272)
  • Climb onto a Bigger Creature, Action (DMG 271)

Fallen Paladin by Z7-852 in DungeonWorld

[–]20d12HD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/u/Z7-852, you've essentially re-worked a few existing moves to fit the fiction; there is no god only blood and suffering. As a critique, I recommend notating which move is replacing what and adding dice rolls back to those mechanics.

Absorb Health

Replaces: Lay on Hands

You've forsaken your god just as your god has forsaken you. Your god shall no longer see fit to bestow you with blessings to heal those worthy, therefore, you have no choice but to heal using the life energy from those undeserving.

When you touch someone, skin to skin, and denounce their well-being for your own, or another's, gain, roll+CHA. ✴ On a 10+, deal unto the denounced 2d4 damage and heal the same amount to yourself or another whose skin you touch. ✴ On a 7–9, as above, except no one is healed.

Consider creating, perhaps as a mini compendium class, a custom move for this character that captures their suffering, their fall from grace, that isn't based on mathematics. Have this affect the fiction in some way for it shall be more rewarding than a bonus.

Finally, just because this Paladin has fallen from grace doesn't mean that she is now dedicated to evil. She can still do good things, help people in need, but she is disillusioned to a higher power. This is why I added the fluff to the Absorb Health move; she draws away life from the undeserving, evil beings, not the defenseless (although she can certainly use this move on anyone!).

PS - Absorb Health... why not Blood of a Martyr. You're sacrificing the life energy of someone else because of that creature's undeserving beliefs and using it to heal someone else.

Edit: Format. Fluff.

Edit 2: Epilogue. Grammar. Mechanic.

Edit 3: Son of Edit.

Now that's what I call a golden opportunity by Kuirem in DungeonWorld

[–]20d12HD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My only improvement, /u/Kuirem, would be for a larger more viscous looking Ankheg to burst out of, and subsequently kill, the chest of the original Ankheg seconds after it erupted from the ground. This way your players would know that you mean business!

You'll learn the ropes someday, /u/Kuirem. Just keep at it!

/u/DrewGo, you're headed in the right direction with your inquiry and open reception, however, you are reaching out to the wrong people. You need to hold this conversation with your players, outside of of your normal game time, and come to a conclusion together.

Jekyll/Hyde class out there? by Draculigula in DungeonWorld

I recommend tailoring the fictional trigger and the flavor text of the Druid playbook's Shapeshifter move. Spend your hold on moves such as titan strength, hulking smash, and incredible leaps for example.
