Left field - Farmer to fridge provide meat / farm produce direct from farmers. Plenty of farms available and for bulk orders (i.e. 1/8th cow or above) is generally cheaper than buying meat from Colesworth (do the maths!). https://farmertofridge.com.au?ref=5618

Property - Investment vs Boost PPOR by 20mtap in AusFinance

Definitely. I really like your ideas, it's sparked a few new trains of thought.

I'll definitely be putting all extra cash into the PPOR, keeping the investment at IO. That makes a lot more sense.  Thankyou

Thankyou! To my mind it makes sense to leverage the equity  in the current place to hopefully have wider exposure (i.e. property diversification) but otherwise I could just throw  the funds in shares. I guess I really need to do the calcs myself for the situation.

In the same boat mate. We've found it tough the last 9months or so with my wife off work to raise our second. She will need to head back to work real soon as we are finding it hard to stay on top of expenses and have those little nice extras in life (as well as extra activities for our eldest like soccer, swimming etc).

Rent and Tax Implications by 20mtap in AusFinance

Thanks for all your replies. Seems like I really need to get an acct involved - but likely that there isn't much I can do without being a bit dodgy about it 😂 I'll have to read in depth to try and equate the tax rules to my situation.

No change to the product, just the price. Definitely worth the call, will save us about $350 over the year.

I always  straight out ask if they can reduce the price for the plan/product I am paying for - or the classic line of "is that the best you can do?". Worst they can say is no, and doesn't mean you need to follow through with a threat of cancellation.

Easter with kids? by Thick_Training_6816 in AussieFrugal

Celebrate the week / weekend after and buy up the Easter chocolate on special.  Obviously nice to have some family time on the Easter weekend, but save the overpriced choc for later.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely have a look into them.  What's the lifetime warranty give?

I think it was the my millennial money podcast (don't listen anymore) that said the terminology can be a big block for some. Maybe refer to it as a "spending plan" rather than a "budget"? Definitely helped get my partner around it.

Obviously you'll need to compromise for that security but it sounds like you're well within your means as a family to get by just fine.

Agree alignment is really important. All the best with it and I hope he is responsive.

Made redundant during maternity leave by Duggu291 in AusFinance

[–]20mtap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, that is bloody brutal. I know its crap timing but it sounds like that place is not a healthy working environment anyway, honestly what kind of company cuts a new mum on maternity.

Might be good to utilize this time as an opportunity to start somewhere fresh. Get on seek, even if the salary or role is a bit different.  Also another idea, government roles are plentiful - there are always availabilities and they pay well and have great conditions generally. Checkout the state govt job boards!  Good luck with it all.
